Avenged Sevenfold - Hail To The King

Although yes, a different direction chosen by the guys of Avenged Sevenfold, initial listen may not be very impressive. However if you've been with this band since the beginning appreciation builds up quickly. It is a very solid album no doubt. Sure I love the older stuff, but this is a completely different direction.

I prefer their older stuff. But this is also good.

Anyone listening to this? What do you think?

Prefer their older stuff, this sounds like a weak imitation of Metallica.

I definitely liked their early stuff too but this isn't bad. One of the problems I've always had with them is that lot's of their stuff sound so similar. Nickelback has the same issue.

PS. I am too old to like Avenged Sevenfold though. My daughter told me that when she asked me a few years ago if I had ever heard of them. I pulled my phone out and showed her that I had purchased 10 or so of their songs.

Sounding the seventh trumpet was amazing. Dorigon they really tried to go back to their influences influences on this one and smiplify their sound. For me what I loved were the dueling leads, haunting background vocals, that demonic church sound and the insane guitar work / progressions. All of which they ditched for this new album. I guess it's what they wanted to write and it kicks a different type of butt. I know a few tracks gave me a feel like I was listening to some old pantera which was great. Overall I'd give it a 7/10. Low on creativity, highly focused but I was expecting some more huge a7x. After Nightmare and the passing of Jimmy I'd expected them to prove that they still can do what caused us to get hooked in the first place.

i heard this today, wasnt impressed it was bad compared to the older stuff. Avenged without The Rev just isnt good ^^

Well also keep in mind it was a concept record based around the idea of society and hailing a political figure. They're not really showcasing their talents like they had to early on to prove how good they were.

listen to St. James their bonus track which has nothing to do with the concept album and is better than anything on the album as a result.

Not a fan of popular metal really.

Not trying to start a fight but why do you see what's good in this?

I listen to death metal and black metal, and a bit of modern metal, and can see that A7X is better than most pop-metal bands, but I can't see the appeal. :|

Just going to contribute though, you might like In Flames (Old school) or Blood Stain Child if you like A7X hehe.

Meh, almost a decade ago I liked Avenged Sevenfold, but I couldn't listen to more than a bit of a track these days.

Yeah dude I hear you... I mean honestly I liked a7x back in sounding the seventh trumpet... but they're older now and they wanted to take a few steps back which is understandable. It's pretty badass though that they're about to hit ANOTHER #1 album on top 200 which hasn't really been done since vulgar display of power for a metal-ish band. Huge achievement for Nightmare and Hail To The King is already #1 in UK which is great..

I guess I'm not upset about them going more mainstream because I liked them back when they were just hated kids and to see them on top of everything is really cool.

Final Sky is really interesting. I've never heard this but it gives me a Trivium mixed with Black Veil Brides and Bullet For My Valentine feel which is awesome!

Can see your point, however metal nowadays is usually a protest to popular music.
