F2P Arena Season 1: Korgath
ZsTMxF1.jpg

Lets start with some explanation for those who did not see the previous thread:
This bracket has been dominated by pug bgs for far to long, its time for some more arenas! There has been alot of talk about arena servers, making a server for arenas to continue over a prolonged period of time, while hopefully this will spur involvement on the Korgath arena server, that is not the focus of this event.

Arena start date now decided: Set to begin on August 14th, and will then end on the 28th

This event will be divided up into two seasons:

1st part:
Making your character / gearing. (The rules on what gear / classes you may or may not use in your arena comps will come later) This part can be started at any time, NOW! (For example xD)

2nd part:
Arenas! We will be using screen shots to keep track of progress on this page (rankings will be posted on a continues basis)

Prizes:

At the end of the second season, the members of the highest ranked team will receive cosmetic helms of their choice.

Rules / Regulations:

Fight Club: The 8 Rules. - YouTube

#Stipulation
1 No more than 2 heirlooms may be equipped by any one character.
2No Arena Grand Master's, would favor people with friends on the server or who have more time to make toons than others.
3No characters not bound by F2P restrictions.
4Rifle Commanders Eyepatch will be off limits for all characters.

... this is the F2P bracket is it not? Adapt.

Arena Explanation:

During the week queues begin (Part 2 of the season) Bop and I will explain the rules for queuing, which are as follows.

#Stipulation
1 Arena 2v2 queues will occur every night on Korgath alliance between the times of 6 PM to 10 PM CST. ( No arenas before or after will be counted toward rankings)
2 The tournament will be entirely 2v2 arenas. For queuing however it will be 3v3, so that Bop or myself can spectate for solidarity purposes.
3 Teams will start at 1000 elo , and we will be using this program to calculate the team rankings.
4You reserve the right to question a games victor, but any decision made by Bop or myself is final.
5During the arena season, you may acquire new gear for your character, as long as it fits the rules.
6If a fight goes on longer than 15 mins, the game is a draw, and no longer counts towards either teams rating.
7Character specialization changes may be made, but if the character belong's to a pre-existing team, this teams rating will be reset to 1000 elo. (Character talents may be changed at any time with no penalties)

so we have to gear new character every season?

oh and im totally down for this.

Okay, so I guess I' m just retarded or something, but am I able to use a lvl 20 twink, following all gear restrictions on a p2p account, or does it have to be a starter edition?

A p2p account that uses free to play restrictions on gear and professions will be allowed to enter this tournament.

We have not decided on what the requirements for season 2 will be, since season 1 has not even begun.

Please spread the word! We want to make this thing a success!

This is the whole reason I even started F2P in the first place. Count me in. Going to have to find an arena partner now or even just some people to play with.

Thinking Warrior or Priest but I'm not sure yet. I'll definitely tell the dozen or so friends I have on 3.3.5a twink servers to try this out.

Stopped reading at eyepatch being banned if I'm gonna be honest. It's obvious you're biased (as well as previous posts) so don't try to lead something like this. Mine as well take away horde crit gear and ban lfh completely since it's the same as agm.. Tbh I'm tired of seeing good ideas like this pop up with so many rules like this is banned and that and this also.. Make a toon, get bis, do w/e kinda comps/arenas you want and fight each other with the best you got. If someone uses a hunt/rdruid oh well, lessen the rules and get more people to want to join and that OP comp won't get that many opponents. Just my 2 c. Gl to whoever decides to do this

I am removing the ability to use the Eyepatch out of consideration that there may be cloth users that want to have a fighting chance in their comps. And as for bias, I dont see a motive for me to be biased as, for obvious reasons, I will not going to be competing in the tournament for obvious reasons. The removal of the Eyepatch wasnt even on my mind till it was suggested to me by a more than credible mage in this bracket.

I believe the FEW rules that there are have warrant to them. I dont want to see people botting to reach full BiS, so I set a two heirloom limit, which would be difficult to accomplish in a week in the first place. AGM while it would be nice to have is off limits because it would be to easy for someone who knows 90s on the server to simply farm it and receive a substantial advantage over their competitors, which I explained in the first post.

can we get a list of banned comps and classes which must gimp their gear?

There are no banned class's/ comps at this point, nor is there gimped gear beyond the eyepatch and agm restriction.

Okay, so I guess I' m just retarded or something, but am I able to use a lvl 20 twink, following all gear restrictions on a p2p account, or does it have to be a starter edition?

Your not retarded xD, its a more than valid question.

As long as you are following the F2P restrictions I dont see a problem, make a monk if you want to so long as hey are under f2p restrictions.

You may want to ban DK's...

xD

On a side note, can we at least get an idea what classes will be gimped?

No classes are being gimped beyond the eyepatch and agm restrictions.

umm rules need to be there some comps can cheese wins so easily

While there are some obvious problems with this bracket, arenas are somewhat shielded from it. I believe the rules already listed are enough to bolster that shield.

so i'm assuming switching partners mid or early season is a no.... i guess i have to find a full time partner (to be continued)

Yea :( I would imagine more than a few people are trying to find a arena partner though. You can switch partners, but it would be a new team.

Also^^^ lessen up the rules till u see how it goes for realz then u know whats not good to have or what is, however it goes less rules= more plp interested and then come up with some that fit the situation.

Enhance Shammy is going to get screwed by no eyepatch :( but I think its a necessary evil. I wanted to include it when I was thinking of rules, but I was persuaded otherwise.

We can get the cosmetic helms on f2ps?

TI post they can, ive also seen 1-3 f2ps with the helm so it is confirmed.

And just to assure anyone, these rules arent fully set in stone, if I find a major problem I will change it, but I believe all these rules are necessary, but liberal enough to ensure diversity in comps. I am open to any suggestions, but please remember that they are suggestions.

Looks like fun! Weird rules but I am down if I have the time.

I have developed a love for arenas since I've been doing arenas on ptr. I'll make a toon on Korgath, NE hunter.

Peronally I like the way it's currently set now where people are usually pre-boa if everyone else doesn't have them. I also don't really want to have to make a new toon every time a season starts but if the majority wants this then I suppose I'll do it.

Also, I just finished some 2's arenas with Frostrole, Flashyflash, and Coumarini on Korgath Alliance. First arena games in 1.5 years (and back then it was on 3.3.5 19 twink servers). Was an absolute blast.

Hopefully more people roll over here for some Goldshire duels and arenas.

The few rules that there are have reason.

No Eyepatch doesnt only effect leather wearers but effect mail wearers as well. Not using it is a attempt to balance things out for cloth users.

No AGM, another attempt to balance things. It wouldnt be fair to everyone else if someone that knew 90s on the server farmed it and used it in arenas, or someone who had more time on their hands than other people.

Only two heirlooms. a safegaurd against people botting or who ave more time than others. Farming two heirlooms in a weeks time would already be difficult, and two heirlooms is enough to have a advantage over others if you chose to farm it.

Characters being started at only beginning or after the start of the season is to create a level playing field. If someone used a toon already created on Korgath, for that week they would only have to worry about heirlooms and LFH.

With all this talk about the few rules that there are... I have YET to have any teams sign up for the event... if you are looking for a partner post your information here, an example being:

Mage. warlock, rogue lf team!

I didnt want there to be any rules when I was first thinking about this, but I changed my mind when I started talking to people who where going to participate.

Overall though, I don't see much reason to complain about the few rules that there are anyway... this is the F2P bracket is it not? Adapt.

I would just like to add on to what Sevenslacks7 has already said:

Rifle Commander's Eyepatch is the only piece of gear in its slot that gives agility. By being that only piece of gear, it is unacceptable for a fair arena bracket.

By limiting the head slot to either Weathered Fishing Hat (Daily Luck), Tiger Goggles (Engineering), or Lucky Fishing Hat (All accessible, albeit luck based), we are encouraging classes to be used that are above and beyond the bread and butter classes in battlegrounds.

Hunters, Agility Druids, and Rogues would be favored far and beyond any other classes with the inclusion of the Rifle Commander's Eyepatch.

Also, it is simply false to say that retribution paladins and arms warriors will be weak without eyepatch. NO class will have the RCE. The removal of an item for all will not weaken those two strength based classes.

Banning out classes seems like a FAR more drastic approach to running an arena tournament than simply banning out a piece of gear that gives them an advantage over every other Primary Stat class.

In regards to Lucky Fishing Hat: If you happen to fish it up, by all means use it. It is accessible by every class, and is a luck based reward.
(15 stamina > 4 stamina 4 spirit), but (11 stamina, 8 agility, 8 hit, >>>> Everything else), (12 stamina, 1k shield, >>>> any other trinket)

If you have any other concerns that have NOT been addressed so far, please bring them forward.

Otherwise we would love to see people either looking for teams to be on, or listing the team they are going to use for the tournament.

NOTE: You may change teams mid season, but that will reset your team rating back to 1000. This DOES mean that there is a rating floor of 1000.

NOTE 2: Only 2 heirlooms per character. As stated, this helps curb the temptation to bot honor for a full set. It is helping the casual arena player, not hurting them. If your class relies on heirlooms for damage, then I suggest using your 2 heirloom slots as weapons.

Right , why not 3 weeks or more :( ?!?!?!?! so we can use darkmoon fairie too

The idea is to make this a quick skill based event. We don't want this to turn into a long term gear farm event.

That would discourage players who are more intent on actually just playing arenas.

The only reason we allow heirlooms at all is for the handful of classes that require them to be useful in arenas.

The bottom line is that your toon is limited to 2 BoA's, no agility specific gear (RCE), and no Level 90 Friend gear (AGM).

If you don't like the rules, you are welcome to organize your own event at some point in the future.

I would highly recommend you consider the rules and regulations that are already in place. They have been formulated by a group of 4-5 free to plays with years of experience in this bracket and in the arena.

Rules are changing as a result of Feedback:

All characters will have as much time to make/gear a character as they need, however the tournament will still be held on Korgath Alliance, and will not be CRZ. (changed from 1 week)

^
Pre-existing characters thus on Korgath may be used in the arena tournament, as long as they follow the gear requirements posted. (changed from not being allowed)

The rules on what gear is allowed is staying the same, although there was alot of discussion about Eyepatch, it will stay banned.

We want to reiterate the fact that we want to make the maximum amount of people comfortable with our parameters while still keeping some things in check.

Banning out eyepatch ultimately came down to 2 main issues:

1. It's the only head slot Primary Stat item. This gives a massive advantage to hunters, rogues, and agility druids.

2. It is inaccessible by cloth armor classes. This means that an entire group of classes would be at an immediate gearing disadvantage.

We apologize for any inconveniences, and we have done our best to listen to any complaints and change the tournament accordingly.
