Arcane mage discussion

Concerning my max damage set up, I am thinking about changing from +spellpower to +int enchants on bracers and staff. This should boost by crit chance by about 2%

+7 int is about .5% crit. 7 int on bracers + 22 int on staff is 29 int or about 2% this should put me well over 25% crit total.

Thoughts?

my arcane mage ive found int to staff and bracer to be best, i love max crit set, (over25%), sp to bracer is viable though.

Can the uninformed get a link to your Arc Mage?

Grakob @ Elune - Game - World of Warcraft This is the set I use when I want to jump out of Smeld and go BOOM! I am changin the 30SP on staff to int because I think 1.5% crit critting is more important than 8 SP (30-22sp that the int gives). I am also in the process of getting +4 stats to a second BOA robe. You'll notice I get exactly +7hit with the boot and wand.

I also use minor speed on boots and use the +6 hit boa staff and wand combo.

Without a doubt, the 22 Int is vastly superior to 30 SP in every way. 8 SP is an after thought.

I know I'm new here, but Minor Speed just feels so...-bleh- for a mage, to me. Why take such a meager speed boost over 70 HP? Frost Nova, CoC, and Blink are all you need for speed advantages, imho. (You'd break 1.3k with that set then) But hey, that's just me.

EDIT:

Mindthrust Bracers and Jutebraid Gloves?

thats my mage up there. i've played about alot, and found this to be my favourite set.. a few things to note: i use minor speed for ávoiding hunters. i use the cape enchant because i wanted to test it. 22 intellect on wep is superior by far. so is SP on bracers. i would let it be noted however, that as an arcane mage, your stat prioritising shifts a little..

frost mages (pure dps) = hit > crit > sp > haste

arcane mages (dps) = hit > sp > crit > haste.

this is because you're relying on positioning and quick getaways.. (of course, i'm lacking a few grandfathered pieces because fmylife).

mages have less survivability tools than any other class in the bracket, but makes up for it with vastly superior CC, and a decent burst. however, as an arcane spec'd mage, you're going to want SP over crit (to a certain extend) because if your AB's doesn't tick very high non-crit, you can rarely afford to stand-and-shoot.

i am sitting at about 17-18% crit in that set, and my arcane barrages tick from 250-270, non crit, on a 4 second CD.

edit: but yes i'm garbage dont take my word for anything

what chill said. the crit is alright, but the damage gained from the 8 sp to weapon is noticable, and when you don't crit having gimped damage is lame. 22 int is better for pretty much every other class/spec imo, but for arcane mages 30 sp all the way. >IMO< this is just what i've noticed on my mage when playing him

there are two different views: spellpower for heavier damage and crit for more burst in PVP, I am trying to find the Ying/Yang for SP/Crit

I'll confuse you even more, SP's value (like AP) is relative to crit chance, and crit chance's value is relative to SP (or AP depending on class). Best thing to do would be to find out what the SP coeffecients are for AB.

I made a profiler for a crit stack mage, check it out Profiler - Wowhead

Just replace the Jute with Serpent if you dont have acces to grandfathered gear.

And without Dread, id say argas instead of dread and 2 stam 2 int 2 hit bracers alliance bracers instead of mindtrust

Cant be sure of the stats cause profiler is messed up but you get about 185 SP, 30% crit (with skinning), 3% haste, 1300 hp... Good stuff

Good tips, what bracers have 2stam 2int 2hit, i'll find them if if they exist and you can't get back to me.

yes.

even warlocks have drain HP. once people get past all that CC (which i do not classify as survivability tools), you're dead.

warlocks have drain HP

warriors have bloodthirst/craze/plate gear

paladins, priests, shamans and druids have heals to survive on

hunters doesn't have much, but the leather is more than mages cloth.

rogues have recuperate and evasion

mages have tools that keeps things off you, but when you get past that, its basically "derp" all the way.

Hovel Digger Bands - Item - World of Warcraft

Also I forgot to say that you can use Walking Boots - Item - World of Warcraft if you want to go glass cannon or if you cant get the Horde boots

These are much harder to get tho

And... Other set would be mindtrust, Argas, Stillwater, and change your wand for http://www.wowhead.com/item=59592 or http://www.wowhead.com/item=53451 , you loose alot of crit there tho

You may want to try the Spider silk drape + lavishly jeweled ring set cause I havent checked out the stats for all the other sets I talked about. But my first one is BiS imo (One with dread pirate)
