I think that the 3v3 joust has a LOT of similarities to 3s. You have to manage your CDs well to execute kills, secure objectives, and keep people alive. It's a game in its infancy, but I think it has room to grow to be the next big WoW arena type game. It reminds me so much of WoW arena, but with fewer CDs to manage. F2P WoW is a demonstration that # of skills is not indicative of player ability - positioning, enemy CD management, synergy - these are things that transcend brackets. Plus, I'd like to see what arena heroes have the chops to skill shot
Domination is very similar to Arathi Basin.
Conquest is basically LoL.
Arena is a little too chaotic to mean much other than practicing new characters. I guess you could compare it to 5s at the end of every expansion - every character has ridiculous killing power so it just takes 1 coordinated push to take someone down. The better team wins, but it's certainly very comp biased.
It's already got $20,000 tournaments, and the game isn't out of beta. It was just picked up by the biggest chinese distributor for LoL. It's fun, and I see it doing well in the future. Give it a shot.
Salf - I was doing the Ascended grind in GW2 before I picked up Smite. It was (and still is) a great game, but they've been leaning towards the infinite hamster wheel that all MMO's become. While I wasn't a huge fan of WvW anyways, I'm a completionist and not having BiS kills me. The ascended grind was pretty grueling. I loved sPvP and tPvP, but some IRL friends moved to Smite and I had to follow.
