Any tips to stop a turtle?

Hey guys- I’m wondering if anyone has tips to counter a turtle WG defense. I was playing in the 19’s yesterday, when my random pug fell into a well organized pre-made. The short version was we won, 3-2, but the match went for almost two hours. The apposing team was turtling w/ a paladin FC supported by a shaman and priest. One druid, a lock and a mix of hunters and rogues rounded it out on their side.

We ended up breaking the stalemate by having a lock SS me (the rogue) and then assaulting en-mass, with the goal of me dying and then popping up, catching them un-aware. It worked, but seemed very “lucky” to me. Any other viable strats out there?

WINTERGRASP TURTLES? UUU NO

jk

just hide your fc and send like 8 or 9 people out

oh anc cc healers as much as possible

ewww what a pain in the ass...in the 29s on my pally i usually grab a hunter and 1/2 rogues. by this time the FCs have the 100% debuff up and ready to be plucked. rogues sap healers and pally / hunter run in with rogues and BURN the FC down (HoJ, judgements, 2x ambushes, pet, aimed shot if MM and you can usually burst him down with that). if sap drops before the FC dies, you can put the rogues on healers with mind-numbing poisons, most time they will try and keep themselves up, all the while the other 2 dps are burning right through the hp on the debuffed FC, even if he does have heals. i've used this strategy in pugs quite a few times and it usually gets the flag to drop.

hope that helps =D

take the flag and charge their base. try to kite them without encountering too many. this can rally your team into a sort of 9v10 while you try to survive.

this is fun for me to do, and while it doesn't always work it ends the game either way.

remember that if their team outgears you it is EXTREMEMLY difficult to break a turtle.

Assuming you have the 100% debuff, I wouldn't suggest charging them as you leave your own FC very vulnerable. Also, you can't really hide with the flag since it appears on the map (I'm sure you know that, though).

If you have no debuffs:

Make sure your offense is organized. If two people are about to rez, wait for them. Everyone counts. Have your CC actually CC people and make sure the DPS doesn't break it. This is very hard to do in pugs, so good luck. But if you can CC a healer or two (sheep, sap, vanish sap, blind, stunlock, fear, curse of tongues, trap... anything helps). Then just drill the FC and you should prevail.

If you have the 50% debuff:

Same deal for the most part. CC is slightly less important, but still try to get as focused as possible with your group make up.

If you have the 100% debuff:

Prepare to attack at once and focus fire the FC and off CC healers / DPS.

Sounds like it's a madhouse in the 29's ;P thanks Animalmother- some of that should translate over well, though I wish I could use poisons at 19 :..(

I think that they did out gear us- and we had the added problem of only have one hunter- a lvl 16 non-twink (he did admirably well for his level). It was a test of shear will at the end (I think the other side was calling for guild reinforcements, as the twink druid and one or two hunters seemed new near the end) with us only have one or two on D the whole time. They seriously all turtled-up and only sent out one or two rogues to scout for our FC.

Always looking to do better!

i will never complain about 19 and 29 turtle games ever again! no matter how bad they seem, they are nothing to what is going on in 59 bracket.

being or trying to FC in this bracket absolutely sucks! DKs ruin WSG at 59. they move at 115% on mounts, along with death grip...way OP. i was in a 2 hour 45 minute WSG with my 59 hunter to test his respec. i went into a second WSG with different players after 44 minutes of stalemate, i AFK'd out.

i have done 59 bracket before, if you have the most DKs the game will be quick, but for some reason my luck was bad and DKs were even for both sides.

just do as a do, roll an arcane/int set and blow them the fk up.

Turtle, go the other way around...

all strats have their counter parts. turtle is the end of the line in defense, to defeat it you need to go all offense in the opposite way. exemple...

Turtle <-------------- 1Group att, 1Group Def ----------> Full offense

turtle = everybody in def until they get a chance at capping.

Full Offense = Everybody including the flag carrier goes offensive.

both strategies are viable in their respective ways.

full offensive ask that the whole of the BG stays together running the flags. as in all get in takes the flag, follows him, kill the other FC on the way back, rinse and repeat.

as i menitonned on another thread, communication is the always important. people must know where the FC is, they must always know where the other FC is. mark your healers if you are the leader. even though the full offensive is the best strat you can come with, its almost not possible in PUGs, but still by communication you can always rally a good 7-8 people to join your fight.

also, wait on people in their tunnel or something, don't rush from GY to their base into their turtle, wait, ya gotta be at least 4 to wreck their game and have a small chances.

8 focused fire on you = you die in less then a minute...

8 spreaded fire on 4 opponent = you live long enough to make a difference !

i sympathise though, turtling makes games harder and longer, it just means they wants to play the long game and hope that people get bored and leave the game, which makes them win in the long run !

When playing my twink rogue, I stay in stealth in the middle of the field.

If a turtle is coming our way, I sap someone towards the back end of it.

Chances are, a couple will stay back to "protect" the sapped. If you repeat that a couple of times, the turtle might be broken into pieces.

I was in a turtle the other day.

My team was:

2 shamans

3 hunters

1 warrior

2 pallys

1 druid

1 mage

The other team was:

4 priests

1 druid

3 pallys

2 hunters

all the other team was on D in a turtle and my team had only 2 level 19's so it was pretty intense but we won in the end.
