US Alternative to Blade of Eternal Darkness?

Hi all,

Just started getting back into twinking after a long hiatus and want to do a 59 resto shaman. I read Lirise's guide, and I just don't think I have it in me to farm Blade of Eternal Darkness, especially since I no longer run two accounts. What are some good alternatives? And just how good is BoED compared to the next best thing?

Thanks!

Thanks for the recs. Does hand of Edward the Odd proc off spells? I've heard it doesn't unless its recently been changed.

@Gathki The drop rate on all epics was increased considerably. I don't think I had ever seen Blade of Eternal Darkness drop prior to the pre-patch for BFA, but I've seen it drop at least a dozen times since then in probably ~25 Mara runs. I've farmed it on at least five characters and it's really not that bad to do--I think the longest it took me on any character was five runs, and I got it first try on two. On my 49 druid, I got it three times--twice while leveling and once at 49. So I'd encourage you to farm it up if it's an item you'd like to have.

I personally use fist of stone on my spriest. It really helps out when you have a smaller mana pool than a healer and your spells cost much more.

As @Tzvetan mentioned, the BoED drop rate is relatively normal compared to most drops. In other words, you'll spend longer trying to get some of the socket gear than you will trying to get the BoED. The Hand of Edward the Odd that everyone mentioned is a fun alternative for its stats, although haste doesn't play as strong of a role for resto shamans at 49 and above thanks to a plethora of instant-cast spells. I don't recommend the Fist of Stone for resto shamans, since mana is rarely an issue. I've only ever gone OoM at 59 once, and that was during an epic Deepwind Gorge midfight where I made some really poor targeting choices.

Sounds doable then. I was going off the less than 5 percent drop chance listed on wowhead.

I'd say the drop rate is about 10%. My longest grind was 25 runs on one toon, but I saw it drop for a guildie on the first run. Then his buddy landed it on the third run.

Quick piece of advice for grinding the socket gear -- double check the loot tables in the adventurer's guide. You'll want your loot spec to be enhancement for a couple of different instances, to eliminate some gear options you don't want, and give you a greater chance of getting the gear you do want.

Quick question, did you guys reset the instance to farm the trash repeatedly or did you just go through the runs like normal. And, if you did repeatedly reset, which was the best spot? Also, does it drop on druids?

Trash doesn't drop anything of note, to my knowledge. I always went for just the boss drops.

Thank you! wowhead always shows that the trash has the highest chance for it so I was wondering why I couldn't get anything lol.
