add game time let game time run out xp at 20 behavior

Question 1:

When you have XP stored up on your 20 f2p''s, if you add game time, I'm guessing they only pop up if you enter world while the game time is active? (behaving like when we avoid the free weekends that have popped up)

Question 2 (related):

Details:
-account that has never had game time
-level 20 with built up xp

if I hop on that character, lock xp, add game time, do what i want for the month, let the time run out, and then log back in and unlock xp, ill remain at 20 and not instantly level to unplayble f2p? I'm checking if this behaves how I believe and would hope it does.

Looking for answers from people who have done this and can attest one way or another.
Thank ya

That doesn't work. If you never had gametime, even if you lock xp on your f2p 20 you will level up as soon, as you login. f2p 20s get all banked xp if you login. No matte if you locked xp or not. You can't turn a f2p 20 into a vet 20 if you have banked xp.

okay, thank you thats good to know.
If I ONLY login to the other characters on there, and never the 20's until time runs out, will they remain 20s in that situation?

And If it listed as a "Starter Edition" Status, on my bnet, I can be sure its never had game time, correct? is that the way, or one of them, to tell?

I can't see any way that a character would be affected by anything if you never logged them over the duration. Granted that would undermine one of the major perks of being a vet, since never logging a toon while you have time means you can't buy anything over 1k gold, use mail/AH/warbank, or anything other ways that vet status allows for sidestepping F2P limits.

I don't recall what vet accounts look like in bnet, but I do know that vets don't bank XP. If you're banking XP on toons, you've never had game time.

Thank ya, yes. I figured id at least get the value of the game time on my lower locked toons of getting warbank access etc, but not worth the tradeoff to enter the world on the 20's, as long as they are safe by not doing so. My worry was that simply adding game time, will make the 20's level up next time i enter world on them, even if that next time is AFTER the time expires. But if not then thats an acceptable workaround for my purposes.

I'm a vet with banked XP on a toon due to a bug, and they haven't leveled simply due to the XP existing on them. I haven't had a chance to see if they'd be affected by game time. Given what Arpheton said, I'm not keen on risking it. But simply having banked XP on a vet account does not make you automatically level up out of trial range.

using character gear upgrade use to remove banked xp.
try that if it still works.

mind the fact that you will loose things in your bag (sends u to mail) so toss everything from bags to bank.
Also mind the fact that it is stupid to upgrade any decently old f2p character by this point.

My game time expires tomorrow. I can let you know how it goes :p This was a new trial account. I leveled characters to 20, maxed out bank xp, locked their xp and added game time. Going to let game time expire and then unlock the xp on one of them and see if they level up. Made some duplicate classes and stocked them with enchants, etc just in case.

Nice. Lemme know im kinda curious as i have a trial account i would not mind getting some gems and enchants on few chars after blizzard closed the warbound bank for trials.

Looks like all is good. My toon didn't level up. I see the banked XP there.

Invited it to a group with a leveling alt on another account and no xp debuff.

So just lock xp before subbing so you don't level past 20. Once your sub expires, you can unlock your xp again and won't level.

I remember reading a discussion about this years ago, but worth checking every expansion to see if it's still the case :p

and you were able to log in on the 20 itself, locked during the game time, and unlocked after, not just other characters? interesting

I think we need to make this a bit clearer.

You had a 20 with enough xp banked to level.
You locked your xp.
You bought game time.
You logged onto your 20 while you had gametime and it didnt level up?
Correct.

And then my game time expired.
Logged on 20, unlocked my XP and the character did not level up, but shows it still has banked xp.

So you can still use your toons from a trial account without fear of leveling to 30, so long as you lock their xp before adding game time. You can freely unlock their xp after game time expires to queue for bgs. I havn't tried bg's yet, but I saw no xp debuff when grouped with a leveling character from my second account that has game time, so I assume it should put you in the normal queues.

did you use a sub and then cancel it, or traditional "Game time" where you buy x days? probably doesn't matter but just for reference.
