Basically sockets are usually what you want to go for unless there's some really good procs.
One thing I didn't mention is there are necklaces from BC you get with shattered sun rep (isle of queldanas). You need exalted with the shattered sun and exalted with either the aldor or scryers depending on the proc you want.
However, I can confirm that the aldor proc for the intellect necklace (https://www.wowhead.com/item=34678/shattered-sun-pendant-of-acumen) does not work. Tested on a target dummy. When it procs it says my spellpower is increased by 11,000 or something absurd but the actual damage of my spells doesn't go up at all. So it's literally nothing but a tooltip.
So go for that necklace at your own risk.
