79 hunter, suvival or mm

Read the title. which 1 is better. ive seen some survival hunters pump. which 1 does more dmg amd more burst at 79. i thought surv was better when u dont have max level armor pen and crit gear. correct me if im wrong but i see most hunters are mm

Surv drops behind mm dmg as armor pen becomes more prevalent but surv will always be the cooler spec

you dont need pve (sunwell) gear as a hunter to pump, all you need is engineering and crafted swiftarrow set, weapons are all getting from wotlk dungeons including bis bow, rest is boe and quests+rep

because armor pen is what makes hunters crank + high crit, later in the seasons at 80, i was always told survival is better when u dont have a ton of gear, which at 79 u dont rly have any good gear like armor pen or high crit

Surv dmg mostly relies on explosive shot. but if you're taking explosive shot, you're giving up readiness and readiness fucking rips. Its real hard to argue with double deterrence and double disengage. And if you're giving up explosive shot, there's no reason to dive too deep into the surv tree.

Basically, yes. Surv pumps more dmg against a target dummy than MM. But in pvp, readiness provides absolutely stupid amounts of utility/mitigation and lets you stay in the fight longer.

mm is absolutely one tier higher than bm and surv (on 79 at least), as Chops said bm and surv is more like cool>better specs to play, you can always play whatever you like

better how lol. you just say its better without explaining anything of how its better. better just because more utility of readiness? and yes ive tested it myself at 76 atleast and surv pumps more dmg

u gotta get lvl 79 and gear up to test stuff, testing at 76 without proper gear and underleveled skills is a joke

mm got more instant burst damage, meanwhile surv highly rely on procs and your enemies to not dispel your stuff, mm got more utility (readiness is a blessing for hunters), personally i like the bleed from crits also (against rogues must have), mm is a god hunter spec period, there is no downsides playing mm compared to bm/surv

max chimera crit was 7.3k combined serpent instant+chimera

at first glance the results are equals, but that's the best scenario for surv with all procs and stuff, there is no chance you can have 100% uptime of black arrow on the target because ppl usually dispel the thing

Remember that MM also has a lot of magical damage. My overall magical damage generally looks like: chimera 25% serpent 10% arcane 10% pyrogloves 10% explotrap 5%. There is no arpen at 79 for hunters and no need for it. I thought surv would pump more also but in practice MM is much stronger because it is more reliable than surv and has a better toolkit.

Look at it this way, when all goes right as surv you get LnL procs and you blast things yes. But in a real environment being able to open with silencing shot chimera aimed shot is a lot more reliable for example. Don't underestimate chimera it hits like a truck, like Ankertest said you can see 7-8k double crits. And then there's readiness

I played a lot of the three specs and the conclusion is clear, MM is stronger by far. BM is suprisingly weak. Ankertest said "mm>surv=bm" but I would even say "mm>surv>bm"! I'm not talking dummies or duels but BG environment.

Well now BGs on 79s EU is just bots and it seems Blizz is not even pretending to give a falcon, so I quit. Looking for options. Maybe Warmane 79s? No idea sadly.
