70-79 70's Guide to Basic Raiding

Valencia

Legend
Foreword

Brief guide for a few 70s I raided with in Blackberry's guild. https://xpoff.com/threads/that-seve...-twink-guild-always-actively-recruiting.75511

Reworked it slightly since this was a guide for a few Heroic & Mythic guilds I've helped at level cap. Hopefully it provides decent information for those who can use it. Keep in mind this is some pretty basic stuff, so some readers might not gain anything from this at all. However, feel free to put your suggestions and I'll update as necessary.

Mind the mess, straight from a pastebin copy!

Class Discords:

Resources are normally under pins in specific specialization channels. Websites like Icy-veins go through the basic and need-to-knows of a spec, these discords provide anything in regards to min-maxing whatever it is you're playing. Do keep in mind that these are generally for level cap players, but I do believe having a rough understanding of how your class works at level cap can help.

Weakauras:

Weakauras Addon: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/weakauras-2
Premade Weakauras: https://wago.io/
Example: https://prnt.sc/jmogcb, https://www.twitch.tv/videos/265500148

WAs for the most part can easily become your next UI. Personally, it helps me from overwhelming myself with information I don't need, the symbols and icons that pop up in the center of my screen tells me enough to act upon appropriately and quickly, to the point where it becomes second nature. Can look at my surroundings and incoming mechanics without much issue.

Recommended WAs:

https://wago.io/EJtO935XG - Food, flask, and rune reminders
https://wago.io/EJf29nqmf - Repair reminder

Simulationcraft:

Simulationcraft Addon: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/simulationcraft
Inputs and usage: https://www.raidbots.com/simbot , http://www.simulationcraft.org/download.html

This one isn't as necessary, but I essentially see it as a personal guide. Class discords and websites will provide you plenty of information, especially in the gearing and talent department. But it's not always 100% accurate and the only way to find out what exactly it is you need, you should simulate yourself. This way you know what stats you should be going for, what talents are best for AoE or ST. Another thing to note, not all gimmick trinkets, enchants, gear pieces that are seen as "broken" will not be properly calculated if at all.

Basic video guide:
Inputs for options: http://prntscr.com/ketm98 ( Change gems and enchants to however you want to test )

Additionally, I recommend using simulationcraft.org's client over Raidbots, as there can be some conflict with certain pieces of gear.

Necessary Addons:

Bigwigs Bossmods: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/big-wigs | https://github.com/BigWigsMods/BigWigs_BurningCrusade
Littlewigs (dungeons): https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/little-wigs
Deadly Boss Mods: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/deadly-boss-mods

Bigwigs has this reputation of being similar to DBM, but being more complex for some reason. The former is right, the latter is not. Yes, it is similar to DBM and its base functions, but it has a lot more customization on top of the fact it's updated much more frequently, which matters a ton considering early weeks of raiding. On progression this can literally mean dozens of more wipes and no kill.

As for complexity, it really doesn't take long to set up, ten minutes at worst; it's mostly placing where you want warnings and upcoming mechanics to show up. You can see an example of this in the twitch highlight I provided in the weakauras example. Regardless, the time investment setting this up is more than worth it in the end for both yourself and the raid.

Tutorial for BW:

Raiding Familiarity:

--Bring enough consumables to last you the entirety of raid. Tomes, potions, flasks, enchants, and gems.

--Be aware of what roles you believe you'll be playing, important thing to consider if you're a hybrid that is prone to swapping for comp. Same goes for swapping classes for comp.

--Prepotting. This is generally done when the pull timer is counting down, normally at around 2-4 seconds left depending on your latency.

--Healthstones / Potions. Use them, simple as that; unless you're told by the RL to save them for a certain point of the fight. Regardless of that though, if you believe you're about to die and you've run out of defensives, it's on you to save yourself.

--Gear sets are a thing, make sure to have a variable of them should you need. I.E the health-threshold for the first boss in Black Temple is a good example of swapping to items with more stamina.
