70 Paladin Sets For Prot/Tank? Which One?

I am having an incredibly hard time finding a definitive answer to this question.

What is the best Prot/Tank gear for a 70 pally?

The Lamellar set was the "designated" Brutal tank set, stam stack, int secondary.

The Ornamented set is obviously not prot spec given the set bonuses alone.

The Scaled set has the same set bonuses as the Lamellar set stam stack, strength secondary.

Now what and why? When I look at current tier gear ret/tank sets are the same stat mixes for ret/prot. There is no int at all on any 85 gear that I'm seeing for prot pallies.

So was int a necessary stat for prot during TBC and they never changed the gear? That's the only thing I can think of.

I'm leveling a 85 prot pally and seemingly foolishly bought the Lamellar set based on what I read up on. I'm doing good to great in bg's and am having no trouble tanking 5 mans in dungeon finder but.... I still feel like.... I did this all wrong.

i would have taken scaled, which is the ret version. more str = more dps/trp

ornamented is holy, so at least you didnt take that.

ints always sorta of a "necessary" stat as a pally, but especially in BC there was a lot of mana issues and tweaking involving it. now its all sorted out and its not that important which is why it isnt on 85 prot/ret gear, same as int missing from feral gear.

overall i wouldnt concern yourself too much. you're going to replace the whole set way before youre 85. it might last till 80 if you purely quest, but 80 dungeons/heroic dungeons and then cata quest/dungeon gear should out strip it rather fast.

p.s in cata gear of the same ilvl almost always has the same primary stats (stam/str in your case) which is why you see ret/prot gear with the same primary stats. it all comes down to secondary stats, gemming, and reforging to make the difference at 85.
