69 Rogue Guide (WIP)

Everyone can kill something but all classes do have their counters.

As a rogue I don't have trouble vs any class except Blood DK, Frost DK (to much armor and HP to chew through) and ret pallies.

Unfortunately though we don't have a lot of caster twinks in our battlegroup (vindication). Mages and priests I don't think would pose a threat but I can imagine warlocks being a little more tedious to take down if berserking, sonic booster, or mongoose doesn't proc within the first few seconds.

As for spec I tend to stick with 8/0/52 on my human or 16/0/44 on my undead (chose Borean Smasher on him so he's more hemo spec than backstab like my human) I think sub is best cause there are a couple other rogues in our BG that you need to have the jump on first cause they seem to know how to dps.

Shroomo

How is that ambush spec working for you?

I've niticed so far that given full CDs and my trinket I'll tear apart 8/0/52 sometimes even without the trinket.

All in all it's not bad, nice crits, but I don't go around ambushing everything. Ambush is mainly only used when I know I can dps someone down within 2-3 gcd after.

Alternative Build

I am in the progress of creating my twink and have been looking over the forums. What do you think of using this build with a borean smasher.. obviously designed for large muts and evicerates.

Well to be honest I'm not a mutilate expert. I have the spec on dual but haven't really used it yet. It can be nice for huge burst damage but I tend to like the survivability that Sub brings to the table.

With that being said Mutilate requires daggers, so Borean Smasher would not be usable in that build. You would want Fang of the Desolate Soul instead from that same quest.

A few notes on this:

Coldstone-Inlaid Waistguard should definitely be in the belt list, I would be using it on my rogue. It comes from a quest in HF (for horde its loot 5 vrykul bones) and its not a part of any chain so it costs like 40K XP.

For offhand dagger I will use Stoneblade Slicer from another HF nonchain quest (for horde its escort an apothecary while he burns supplies), its slower for stronger mutilates and has better stats than ice rimed dagger IMO.

For thrown weapon if I will not find reaching star (its pretty rare and usually gets DEed before I can get to it) I will probably go for Sethekk Feather-Darts from Sethekk Halls, which is far superior to the other thrown weapons listed.

Last but not least, leatherworking-only leg enchant requires level 65 (just checked by inspecting an LW) whereas the regular version of it requires 80. If you have tons of money to spare you can even get the enchant and drop LW since the leg enchant does not seem to require you to keep LW - and then inscription would provide the best boost (78 ap 15 crit over aldor libram VS 64 ap bonus from leatherworking).

Oh and ZG shoulder enchant (30 AP) should probably be in the list as well though its much harder to obtain and is probably not worth it.

Oooops I guess I failed in my research, brb fixing my questing plan. Well, there's also fish-eye poker with good stats and slow speed, wouldn't it be better for pvp builds? It has only one prerequisite quest to it.

Also how doable do you think is getting all this stuff without using much help from other 80s and without dinging?

Though I probably will end up opening another account and transferring my rogue to farm stuff like zulian tiger or maybe ZG rep.

I've updated the items on the front page with the suggestions. I really appreciate all of your input on this in developing rogues in this bracket.

It's very doable for the most part. For my undead rogue I did everything solo except the quest in Caldera where you get the random drop from the human guys, then have to kill Kreista at the end for your cloak. He has 300k XP left and I only need 200K for the quest turn ins (3 in nexus and 2 in UK). So it'll be close but should be adaquate for some wiggle room.

My advice is to explore both Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord before you get to 68 (preferably around 66 or so). Exploration in Northrend is 2k a pop and I easily gained 1 level just exploring all the zones in Northrend (including Icecrown and Storm Peaks). It's also pretty fun running from mobs 6-12 levels higher than you lol.

So... we rogues get axes now eh?

From the quest "The Turning Tides" we get the option of either the "Fin Carver" or "Edge of the Tuskarr" now.. which is a pretty badass 1-h axe.

Question is, how are axes going to fit into our rotation, and is having a slow offhand the way to go. I am thinking Borean Smasher and Edge of the Tuskarr are a nice combination for subtlety.

However I'll probably go with Fang and Fin carver just to have the arsenal for a mut spec if I feel like dual speccing :)
