49 Priest - Disc or Holy? HEALING

  • After looking into the spec, I'd say Disc is really useful because it makes your bubbles a lot stronger, you have quick bursts of healing from penance, (for wsg) you can reduce the FC's dmg taken by 40%, and there are like, 4-5 talents that reduce the mana costs of spells that you use A LOT and/or help regain mana easily. Basically you won't oom easy as Disc is what I am seeing. (also in this spec, you should put stats more into int/stam than spirit considering the amount of mana gained from the disc talent tree.)

Holy is a little different when it comes to OOM'ing. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to put some stats into spirit in this spec(maybe I'm wrong) to help the mana-efficiency. However, Holy priests are not to be taken so lightly. As holy, you can make your Greater Heal's mana cost reduced by 20% and cause it to be a 1.5 Second Cast by casting Flash of Heal twice. If you spec/Glyph into Renew, it increases it's healing by 20% and causes 10% of it's HoT to be instant when you cast it. And Deserpate Prayer can be useful when your getting quite the beating yourself. The 3 Talents in Holy that really stood out for me that made me think(Having a holy priest on D would be a pain in the butt for the other team). Lightwell, Body and Soul(1/2), and Spirit of Redemption. With Lightwell(0.5 second cast if it ever goes away) It makes it easy for the FC(in wsg) to kite around, knowing EVEN IF the healer gets LoS'd, that he can jump to the Lightwell and get a heal. Body and Soul(1/2) it causes the targets of your Power Word: Shield to have a 30% speed increase, this could be VERY useful to help someone kite(IE: inside a building or just about any area in WSG). And with Tome of Light, it causes your bubbles to be a 2.1 Second CD instead of 3 second CD, not that big of an improvement, but more bubbles = more survival. And Lets not forget, Holy Word: Chastise. Incase your Teammate or FC is getting pounded, casting Holy Word: Chastise is a great stun.

That being said, i think Disc vs Holy can be half in half, good and bad qualities. Holy probably has better healing abilities than Disc(on D with FC), it lacks good mana efficiency; this probably will require a holy priest(healer) to stack some Spirit to help with OOM'ing. However, Disc probably doesn't have the best healing/survival of Holy does, but has a much better chance Not to OOM, allowing them to be much more useful in long fights vs holy which would be better in a shorter fight.

So Which one do you think is better? Maybe I am looking at a wrong PoV? When is Holy good and when is Disc good? Should Holy stay as OH/DPS? Am I being dumb, clearly Disc has the better heals? Please reply/comment on what you think!

(Also, is glyphing Glyph of Dispel Magic - Item - World of Warcraft a bad idea?)

As Disc you can just spam PW:S on people, use Flash Heal liberally with your gigantic mana pool, and Penance in a pinch.

I've never seen a holy priest do what a disc can, but the healing styles are separating more and more, so maybe we'll actually see more holy priests in the bracket.

as disc you can also get talents where smite heals the closest ally by the person being smited. nice way to keep disc priests offensive and still heal

i don't know man, mindflay has always been and will always be my favorite priest ability (except maybe for the old school 25-mana-blackout-proc-SWP)

you can still heal as shadow. and mindflay really owns in WSG, it's the only snare a priest has. (unless things have changed while i was gone)
