US 3v3 Tournament

Is having a 3v3 tournament with a prize pool a good idea or a bad idea?

Hello,

I was online yesterday and I came across a status post about a 39 3v3 tournament with a 1k usd priz pool.

so @Sanitarium can you shed some light, because if it is going to be around January then we have 2-3 months to prepare and to gear.

I'm super into anything competitive, so I think it's a good idea.

P.s I'm looking for teammates, any bracket, I'll play any healer. Thanks!

In other news, yes ill throw 1k on a 3s tourney. Or possibly 10v10 wsg. Ironing out details. Time frame roughly Jan/Feb. Need to close on a house, get internet set up and build a new PC. As I know more, you all will know more.

That's tough, if you want a better turnout, I'd say do 3's because 10's will be highly reliant on commitment, and 2-3 months is not enough time to theory craft. Although if that's what you're going for then good luck. In the meantime I will be leveling healers.

My hopes for the bracket is we develop some sort of RBG meta/league too. With WarGames we have a lot of room for tournaments and cool rulesets that could scale to smaller groups. I'm talking 5v5 Arenas, Temple of Kotmogu, 8v8 BGs, AV only needs 10 people in order to pop (5v5 is the minimum), etc. We should also look at expanding beyond just this potential tournament. Let's foster some structured comp play routinely, in addition to this one.

Let's boost these numbers and see what we gear up. @Sanitarium, I heard about this through @Sun and this is huge. Thanks for bringing this to 39s. Prize pool or not, we have the potential for some nutty competitive matches or series. See ya in the Gulch.

You gotta put in the work man, if you want that for your community, you have to lead by example. If no ones doing it, then you have you to. Personally I need incentives when I play otherwise its hard to justify it to myself. I just want competitive games and cool experiences, AV and the 8v8 shit is kind of goofy imo, like I dont have time to play AV, i got time to play a 30 min wsg tho, you know what I mean? and arena has damping to further add to my point.

Oy. Then you missed the full AB, 10v10 WSG, and shooting the shit in AV last night with about ~30 39s in WarGames. Even Q'd solo arenas to get random pops between groups. I think we're putting the work in now and only just getting started.

As for AV, that's actually a highly requested one because many are looking at capping out their AV reputation to get their Conqueror titles finally. Competition is an incentive as you said yourself. 8v8s would only be necessary if there isn't enough teams to make a deep pool of players. Honestly, more than 4x10man squads would be tough to fill. Also, 5s have been out of the game for a long time and could actually be a really stable meta.
