29 Warrior / 29 Ret Pally GEAR LIST

I made this list with a warrior in mind, but figured a ret pally would be just about the same. This is a list (to the best of my knowledge) of the top pieces of gear, including WSG Flag Carrying pieces (stamina set). If an item is incorrect or if I am missing some items, please respond! My twink is [char=Terenas]Tightywhitey[/char]

[H] = Horde only

[A] = Alliance only

[BC] = Can be enchanted with Burning Crusade Enchants

[BoE] = Binds on Equipped

[BoP] = Binds on Pickup, either from dungeons or quest rewards

[BoA] = Binds on Account - items obtained from your level 80 and sent to your twink.

GEAR

Head

-Tusken Helm [BoP] Razorfen Kraul, Overlord Ramtusk

-Slayer's Skullcap [BoE]

-Frostreaver Crown [BoE] stamina set

(Tusken Helm is best in slot.)

Neck

-River Pride Choker [BoE] DPS or stamina set

-Sentinel's Medallion / Scout's Medallion [BoP] PvP Reward - 20WSG Marks + 95 Honor Pts

-Tundra Necklace of the Tiger [BoE] 5agi/5str

-Pendant of the Agate Shield [BoE] stamina set

(The pendant can be expensive having to purchase so many times, but is best for flag carrying.)

Shoulder

-Polished Spaulders of Valor [BoA] 40 Emblems of Heroism - LvL 29 has 11 stam/11str and 6 crit rating

-Thick Scale Shoulder Pads of the Bear [BoE] 7stam/7str

-Forest Tracker Epaulets [BoE]

-Brigand's Pauldrons [BoP] [H] quest

-Enforcer Pauldrons [BoP] [H] quest

-Watchman Pauldrons [BoE]

-Azure Shoulderguards of the Battle [BoP] Swords Deck - 7Str 4Stam 3Crit

-Sparkleshell Mantle [BoE] stamina set

(If you have an 80 to get the emblems, clearly the Polished Spaulders of Valor are superior. Whats great is the 30stam/15 resilience is the only known enchant to still work (as of 3.09).)

Cloak

-Parachute Cloak [BoE] [BC] Requires 225 Engineering

-Tigerstrike Mantle [BoE] Stamina set or dps if not an engineer

-Knight's Cloak of the Bear [BoE] 5stam/5str

-Caretaker's Cape / Battle Healer's Cloak [BoP] PvP Reward – 10WSG Marks + 95 honor pts (great for Ret Paladins)

(Parachute cloak by far. If you haven't picked up engineering, Tigerstrike mantle is great, but can be expensive as nearly every non-engineer twink wants it. The PvP cloak is only good for Ret Paladins as they can use the spell damage.)

Chest

-Avenger's Armor [BoE]

-Shining Silver Breastplate [BoE]

-Raptor Hunter Tunic [BoP] [BC] quest

-Fire Hardened Hauberk / Brutal Hauberk [BoP] warrior quest – stamina set

(Avenger's is best, but shining has one less strength. Even though you can put a TBC enchant onto Raptor Hunter Tunic, I still prefer Avenger's, unless you want to use Raptor Hunter Tunic over the warrior chest for a stamina set.)

Bracers

-Pugilist Bracers [BoE]

-Yorgen Bracers [BoE]

-War Rider Bracers [BoP] [A] [BC] quest

-Renegade Bracers of the Bear [BoE] 5stam/5str

-Renegade Bracers of the Tiger [BoE] 5agi/5str

-Gallan Cuffs [BoP] [H] [BC] quest - Great for Ret Pallys

(Even if you can slap on a 12str/24ap enchant to the war rider bracers, I'd still prefer the pugilist or yorgen bracers with +9str. Best to use the war rider bracers as a stam set with a +12 stamina enchant.)

Gloves

-Tiger Hunter Gloves [BoP] [BC] quest

-Mail Combat Gauntlets [BoE]

-Razzeric's Racing Grips [BoP] [BC] quest

-Dog Training Gloves [BoP] Scarlet Monastery (Houndmaster Loksey)

-Algae Fists [BoP] Blackfathom Deeps (Gelihast)

-Gnomish Mechanic's Gloves [BoP] [BC] quest - decent for pallys

(Tiger Hunter's Gloves take the cake, unless you need more stamina.)

Belt

-Highlander's Mail Girdle [BoP] PvP Reward, 20AB Marks + 175 Honor Pts)

-Girdle of Golem Strength [BoE] Until you get Highlander's Mail Girdle

-Stonefist Girdle [BoP] quest – stamina set

(The PvP belt is best in slot. The stonefist girdle shares the same quest reward as the marbled buckler, so alliance characters should take the buckler, but because horde have more shield options – the girdle (even has bonus armor) is wonderful for flag carrying.)

Pants

-Phalanx Leggings of the Bear [BoE] [BC] Enchantable by level 60+ - 9stam/9str

-Phalanx Leggings of the Tiger [BoE] [BC] Enchantable by level 60+ - 9agi/9str

-Phalanx Leggings of Strength [BoE] [BC] Enchantable by level 60+ - 14str

-Phalanx Leggings of Power [BoE] [BC] Enchantable by level 60+ - 28ap

(The fact that all of these can be enchanted with +40stam/12agi or 50ap/12crit make any boe pants better than any bop pants. Ideally the bear pants with the stam/agi enchant put you way ahead in HP over any other 29. If you have a healbot, tiger/strength/power with the AP enchant would bring more pain!)

Boots

-Highlander's Mail Greaves [BoP] PvP Reward - 20AB Marks + 175 Honor Pts

-Caverndeep Trudgers [BoE] Until you get Highlander's Mail Greaves

(PvP reward boots are best, but its worth mentioning the caverndeep boots have more stamina.)

Rings

-Deadman's Hand [BoP] Scarlet Monastery (Arcanist Doan)

-Protector's Band / Legionnaire's Band [BoP] PvP Reward - 20WSG Marks + 95 Honor Pts

-Charged Gear [BoP] Gnomergan (Mekgineer Thermaplugg) - random enchants

-Thunderbrow Ring [BoE]

-Seal of Wrynn [BoP] [A] quest

-Band of Argas [BoP] quest

-Noggs Gold Ring / Talvashs Gold Ring [BoP] quest - stamina set

(Deadman's hand, though has no dps stats, the proc is EXCELLENT against hunters/casters. I prefer the pvp ring for my second choice as it has a bit of everything. I have heard about the charged gear of whatever rings being decent, but haven't looked into it much.)

Trinkets

-Insignia of the Alliance / Insignia of the Horde [BoP] PvP Reward - 2805 Honor Pts

-Arena Grand Master [BoP] Stranglethorn Vale (Arena Grandmaster Quest)

-Talisman of Arathor / Defiler's Talisman [BoP] PvP Reward - 30AB Marks + 175 Honor Pts

-Rune of Duty [BoP] PvP Reward - 30WSG Marks + 118 Honor Pts

(I stick with the insignia and arena grand master mostly, but its a good idea to switch out trinkets if you've used the "use", as most trinkets have cooldowns longer than 3 minutes. I use Rune of Duty only for a stamina set, but Arena Grand Master and the Talisman can both be great for flag carrying as well.)

Two Hand Weapons

-Corpsemaker [BoP] Razorfen Kraul (Overlord Ramtusk)

-Bloodied Arcanite Reaper [BoA] 65 Emblems of Heroism - LvL 29 has 14 stam / 9str / 9crit rating, 88-132 dmg (29 dps)

-Archeus [BoP] [A] [BC] quest

-Cobalt Crusher [BoE]

-Manual Crowd Pummeler [BoP] Gnomeregan (Crowd Pummeler 9-60)

-Thermaplugg's Left Arm [BoP] Gnomeregan (Mekgineer Thermaplugg) – Better for Fury warriors or Ret Paladins

(I am a little outdated now on what the best weapon is. Please give me some incite on this - as I've heard plenty and can't decide myself.)

One Hand Weapons

-Crescent of Forlorn Spirits [BoP] [A] [BC] quest

-Skullbreaker [BoP] [H] [BC] quest

-Bleeding Crescent [BoP] [H] [BC] quest

-Protector's Sword / Legionnaire's Sword [BoP] PvP Reward - 30WSG Marks + 316 Honor Pts

-Zealot Blade [BoE]

-The Butcher [BoE]

-Torturing Poker [BoP] Scarlet Monastery (Interrogator Vishas)

-Bloody Brass Knuckles [BoP] Scarlet Monastery (Interrogator Vishas)

-Looming Gavel [BoE] stamina set

-Windstorm Hammer [BoP] [H] quest - stamina set

(I have never tried dual wield, but many say Crescent of Forlorn Spirits is great with a TBC enchant.)

Shields

-Marbled Buckler [BoP] [BC] quest

-Vile Protector [BoP] [H] [BC] quest

-Forcestone Buckler [BoP] [H] [BC] quest

-Crest of Darkshire [BoP] [A] [BC] quest

(Alliance characters should aim for the Marbled Buckler, as the crest is not nearly as good.)

Ranged Weapons

-Charmed Ancient Bone Bow [BoA] 65 Emblems of Heroism - LvL 29 has 2 hit, 2 crit rating, 7ap

-Naga Heartpiercer [BoP] Blackfathom Deeps (Lady Sarevess)

-Thick Bronze Darts [BoE]

-Hand of Argus Crossfire [BoP] [A] quest - stamina set

(The Bind on Account item, Charmed Ancient Bone Bow is likely best, but if you don't have an 80 - Naga heartpiercer is great. Remember DPS doesn’t matter, just the stats on the weapon is what we’re looking at. Hand of Argus has +1agi/+1stam, but figured every stamina counts in a stamina set.)

Engineering Goodies

-Catseye Ultra Goggles [BoE] catch hidden rogues/druids

-Gnomish Rocket Boots [BoE] used for running the flag faster or getting from point A to point B quicker

-Gnomish Net-o-Matic Projector [BoE] great for capturing flag carriers or pesky hunters

-Gnomish Shrink Ray [BoE] Is a super twink destroying you? Counter them with this

-Minor Recombobulator [BoE] helpful on teammates

-Gnomish Cloaking Device [BoE] trick the enemy out and disappear!

-Gnomish Mind Control Cap [BoE] just an overall fun item

-Gnomish Harm Prevention Belt [BoE] not too great as a twink will eat through the 500 damage very quick

It's nice to see that reckoning's level 29 bracket isn't totally dead yet. I can see that you were writing this guide from an alliance players point of view. So I will throw some items you missed on here later.

You didn't post links or ratings. The people here usually aren't happy with just gear listings. You might want to consider going a little bit further into the guide to please the commentators here unless you are looking to catch some flak. I'm just glad to see more people trying to fill up the guide section with quality postings.

Use wowhead links please. Seems like you have most items, but with limited knowledge of 29 people will have to look up all the items, if you use wowhead links they can see them right away.

Pendant of the Agate Shield -- good neck if you use the stamina effect. Typically used by the rich, hardcore twinkers.

0. Click Edit on the bottom of the post

1. Type up the item on the edit screen (for example, Raptor Hunter Tunic)

2. Copy the wowhead link (for the example, go to wowhead and search for the Raptor Hunter Tunic, click the item and then copy that link)

3. Highlight the typed up item on the edit screen

4. Click on the earth with a paper clip symbol on the top of the edit screen

5. Paste the wowhead link

6. Hit 'Save' to finish editing

This will improve the guide, because it gives them an instant idea of what the stats on items are if they simply hover over the item. Clicking on it gives the wowhead link of the item showing further details.

updated

thx - really didn't know how to link items from wowhead. I'll likely color-code words/phrases later on as well to make it easier/quicker to read.

and the reckoning BG is usually active. tend to get instant to 2 min waits on WSG... bit longer for AB tho.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=2032 with 4 stats or any of the bc enchants is a nice option for pallies

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42943 another nice weapon for 29s

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44092 not quite as nice but easy enough to get

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6804 easy quest item to get

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=17039 been thinking about one of these with battlemaster for my fcing set, will take other bc enchants. could let it proc mongoose then switch weapon sets.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44093 very nice ranged

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42946 also very nice

if you dont want boa shoulders http://www.wowhead.com/?item=7727 is pretty nice for stam and some dps

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=20429 is an option but not that great

im prolly missing a few things but its late

I did some gear listings on my first post. Check them out.

Oh ya make sure to get this moved to User Submitted Guides..

updated again. Was thinking of splitting the list into a "DPS SET" at the top and a "STAMINA SET" at the bottom. Thoughts?

Any more items missing, mistakes, etc? I didn't add everything you two suggested... such as the PvP BoA items, as I find the pve BoA items superior.

I'll submit this into a guide once I feel this is completed ;-)

thanks for a heads up on windstorm

i added in a "key" at the top as to what ill color-code the guide with... I'll fill in the rest of the guide with these "colors" later on when I have time.

what about Battle Healer's Cloak for a retadin? I'm not huge on agility when it doesn't boost AP, but I do know if I'm going to use a slow weapon for synergy with SoC boosting sp might not be a bad idea.

Spell power also boosts healing from JoL on myself and allies who attack my target, right?

you're missing the best gun ever gets rid of all the others.

its stats are just huge. though it takes as little as 3 hours doing all the quest to get it and the quest are obtainable at 26 or 28 i remember right. lots of ghost walking to not get experience. also the only gun to be able to get +7scope on. the BOA bow or gun are just level 1 which means no scope, just the stats and even there the stats aren't all that great.

without further delay here it is...

Quest Big Game Hunter

Reward Master Hunter's Bow or Master Hunter's Rifle

as mentionned they are the only one that be slapped on an +7 scope to. all others get +5 and BOA gets nothing on. so why bother ?

as for warriors using two handers...

thermaplugs left arm takes it away.

OVERPOWER + high DPS = lots of easy hit that can't be dodged or parryed. i was owning rogues, hunters like there was no tomorrow. but then again warriors just sucks at it when it comes to low level. lots of stance dance and charge moves. ended up deleting my warrior.

the ranged weapon is only for stats period maybe a last shot at a runner and thats it. go into a bg and count how many times you actually use your ranged weapon and let me know when a couple of damage would have made all the difference over the stats you would have gained out of that slot.

tla is not the best weapon since its attack speed is so fast. right now its between cm and the new boa axe. weapon dps isnt everything, top end damage is. overpower is an instant and you would want the highest weapon damage to make full use of it and guess what tla 106 damage is garbage for it. tla is for a enhancement shammy.

overpower goes with DPS not high end damage !

i've tryed it between corpsemaker and left arms, i was killing a whole lot more with lefty. i'm not just saying this out of the blue i did play a warrior for like 1 year in the 29 bracket. i also tryed running around with the knckles because i actually thought stats would make a difference... besides making gain lots of rage... it was easily out DPSed by the Lefty and Corpse. so i ended up giving in to the two handers. then i passed like 15 BG trying to figure out which one was better... and guess what... in th eend when i checked at the charts, i was making a whole lot more damage with lefty, not to mention i had actually double the number of kills i was making.

on this one i am quite sure there is no reason for a warrior to go with dual wield or running with CM when lefty is strickly better at it ! as i mentionned... your stats can get you so far yet gets you so little. DPS makes you a beast when it comes to close quarter combat. i do understand that a warrior must play according to what he fights and how to fight it. lots of stams would be great... but damage wise... even stats wise... its the dps that determines if you kill or not your opponents.

i restate my claim...

big game hunters guns are just better at it, even for a warrior !

and yes, often have i killed my running opponent with those guns !

how else can a warrior keep the distance on a hunter kiting it ?

this discussion also leads me back to the why i deleted my warrior. because even though it killed, even though it was great playing it, i was getting owned easily by hunters (the good ones) even shammy we're easily soloing me.

keep warriors for higher brackets then 19-29 they don't belong there !

updated the list with the information given.

still unsure on the therma vs corpse deal - discuss more please!

this looks like a really polished guide. i love the way you made some text with color, very pretty while not distracting :)

one thing i would change myself is the gear list order. personally i like it when it goes

head

neck

shoulder

back

chest

bracer

glove

belt

legs

boots

rings

trinkets

weapons (this can go first too)

this way it's in order of the character screen, from the left side, top to bottom, then the right side, top to bottom.

just my personal preference though. maybe you had a different order in mind, idk

yeah i agree with druiddroid...i enjoy seeing items listed in the order that they appear on my character page...not complaining at all, but i guess i can be a little picky at times lol =)

Alright no one else is saying it so I have to...

Abilities, such as Overpower, deal weapon damage. Dps does not affect weapon damage. It doesn't matter if your 2h axe takes 80 fucking seconds for its autoattack, if its damage per swing is high, its Overpowers, Mocking Blows, and even Rends will be high. And if you're going to use a 2h weapon as a warrior, you have no reason not to use the talents Improved Overpower and Taste for Blood. Because of these, damage per hit is your primary concern; speed is secondary. If you don't use those talents, tbh I think you're better off using a different spec. DW with 5/5 DW spec will get what you're trying to get done with a weapon like TLA much better.

For a 29 warrior, your 2h weapon is either Bloodied Arcanite Reaper (1st by a little bit) or [item]Corpsemaker[/item]. Since a ret pally is only concerned with his SoC and maybe crusader procs and not so much instant weapon damage, [item]Cobalt Crusher[/item] I think sounds like the paladin's weapon.
