29 Revival...Dated 'lock

I have an old and severely dated 29 Lock. I loved, loved, loved playing my Lock, in BGs and Arenas, in the golden days of '07-'08. It's sorely outgeared now, and has very few HP for what it's worth.

I want to play this toon again so bad it hurts. Assume I was BiS in 2007, quit then (as a proud and BG dominating member of Maelstrom Gnomeball Team) and want to make this toon work again. I have an AGM, and I /had/ some swank gear.

Not just BiS gear...overall, what do I need to do?

First off, absolutely before you do anything else if you haven't already done so, go turn off your XP in Orgrimmar. :)

Your lock is in really good shape for a starting point. Lathoriel outlined a really good balanced lock set -- look to that as your starting point. That said, from your current armory, it looks like you prefer to hit harder and run glassier, so to speak. With that in mind, I recommend five upgrades. Azshir the sleepless, a rare mob that appears maybe once every 10-15 runs in SM graveyard, drops both the Necrotic wand, and the Blighted Leggings. You'll like those, but they certainly won't hold you back from starting to play 29s. Look to the wand especially, as that will also raise your hit rating by 2 to reach 13, which is spell hit cap for 29s.

Next, you may want more stamina to protect you from a bracket that hits harder now. I recommend two changes in that regard, that will give you the best bang for the buck. First, take a look at the Resilient Tunic. Second, your Gallan Cuffs are capable of the 12 stam enchant; choose that. Once games start in 29s, if you feel you don't need the stamina, you can always go back to your shadow wrath robe.

Finally, running random dungeons will eventually yield the blue gloves Lathoriel chose for you.

And of course, whether you choose mining, or switch to herbalism or jewelcrafting, get that second profession done while you're waiting for 29s to make their comeback.

Looking forward to seeing you on the field!

What name would I best remember you by, Lythe, assuming it's not that? If it is, then sorry...brain went on vacation this last couple years, not sure when it's coming back.

I already have my exp frozen, so that's not a big worry. What does worry me is that when I logged onto the character to respec and check out my banked gear options, I ran into RFC to try out my DoTs. Corruption was ticking for 59 with 184 shadow damage...down from the 84 it commonly ticked when I played this guy in '08. I assumed things would change over time, but this was a much more dramatic change than I had anticipated.

I also got those BoA shoulders when BoAs were much cheaper. I can't say I'd relish the volume of dungeons and such I'd have to do on my main (which is pre-85, currently) in order to get all the rest of the BoAs. For the sake of 29s and nostalgia, I'd really like to...

What I really need to know is that locks still have a place whittling away at people in a bracket where burst classes can pass 2k in a single hit.

Edit: Also, with resists being as good as they are these days, might the Spell Pen trinket be worth a slot over the PvP trinket? I can imagine, particularly as horde, that I'll be losing a lot of DPS and CC to Shadow Resist.

As far as i'm aware spell damage is scaled down with the % it increased spells by, with the new 1 int = 1 spell power change which explains your dots ticking less.

the justice point BoAs are too much of a grind (in my own opinion) so at the moment i'm using honor ones bought in wintergrasp (much more fun/fast to get hold of when having a dps main) and you dont lose too much stats tbh, the BoA weapon is essential as it has like 56 passive spellpower at 29.

I'm sure locks still have a place in wsg with trying to get the opponents healers to dispel a UA (which can turn a game easily) but im afraid I joined 29 after 4.0.3 and havent had a wsg pop yet (you're from US servers and I have no idea if you guys are getting pops)

If you want spell pen i'd rather drop my cloak and get Parachute Cloak + 20 spell pen enchant (which nullifies every possible resistance except nature resistance; 15 nature resi on cloak + charged gears) rather then drop a pvp trinket but that's my own view (i play human so not a problem for me :D )

hope this brief, rushed post can either enlighten or amuse you haha

There are also worgen, with +5 resist all, which would yield 34 each Shadow and Nature, right? Even if it's just the base 29, worgen will be a problem...and given that it seems 80% of the alliance is worgen right now, it's a problem I'd like to avoid. I may just go with the parachute cloak; I find it hard to imagine that whatever stats I lose will be worth more than the damage and fears that will break through resists thanks to the pen.

True that , Parachute cloak is an option aswell but you'll have to sacrifice alot of stats aswell but if it can make a difference between live or die i would consider it.
