To start the guide of i want to introduce myself and explain why im making this guide.
Ingame im known as Stabilt/Smörx. I play 29 hunter on eu and 19 on us.
The reason im making this guide is to help some of the lost souls ive seen playing hunter in bgs etc but I also hope to see some new faces in the gulch.
Heres my own hunters armory; http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...iltyo/advanced
Most of the content is what I self like/think about gearing and I think a lot of other people disagree on some points
grammar is bad but you should probs understand what im saying.
1. Talents
Posthaste - Spell - World of Warcraft
This is the number one talent for battlegrounds without doubt, you can chase down anything (except for dashing druids) when you disengage after them using this and Aspect of the Cheetah.
Narrow Escape - Spell - World of Warcraft
Is viable for arenas, mainly when you play against melee comps.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera - Spell - World of Warcraft
Also good for arenas, great to use when you want to Line of Sight(LoS) casts or when you need range between you and enemies.
2. Glyphs
The glyphs I use are the following;
Major glyphs:
Freezing Trap:
When your Freezing Trap breaks, the victim's movement speed is reduced by 70% for 4 sec.
Great glyph for both battlegrounds and arenas, pretty obvious its good vs melees.
No Escape:
Increases the ranged critical strike chance of all of your attacks on targets affected by your Freezing Trap by 100%.
Best glyph for MM hunters, not too good for survival
Solace:
Your Freezing Trap also removes all damage over time effects from its target.
The glyph to use when you want to make sure your trap wont break to your teams dots.
Disengage:
Increases the distance you travel when you Disengage.
Great glyph, I like using this on both bgs and arenas, mainly arenas when I occasionaly play with talent that reduces disengage cd to 10 sec.
Pathfinding:
Increases the speed bonus of your aspect of the cheetah by 8%.
My favorite glyph for wsg. Night elfs get 2% movement speed so with this glyph as night elf i have 160% speed which is equal to mounts.
Minor glyphs:
Theres only one glyph you really should use and that is Glyph of aspect of the cheetah
Pets.
Viable and useful pet buffs/abilities
3% versatility, Stag
5% all stats, Dog
10% spellpower, Serpent
5% multistrike, Wind serpent
5% crit, i dont have a pet with this nonsense buff :^)
25% healing debuff (mortal wounds), Carrion bird
Theres other with pets with the same buffs and you can find them easily here: Petopia: A complete guide to hunter pets in the World of Warcraft.
3. Abilities
The main abilities for hunters are the following;
Explosive Shot, most damage dealing ability dealing damage over 2 sec.
Arcane Shot, spammable damage costs 30 focus.
Counter Shot, this is your interrupt, when you use it you prevent spells from the same school to be used for 3 sec. It has a 24 sec cooldown.
Concussive Shot, Slowing your target by 50% for 6 sec
Roar of Sacrifice, Protects a friendly target from critical strikes, making attacks unable to crit. This ability is your pets and you can macro it to use it on yourself and oters. Only pets specced Cunning can use it.
Freezing Trap, traps the target for 7 seconds, any damage done against the target will break the trap. Therefore the glyph I mentioned earlier "Solace" is usefull.
Steady Shot, deals abit damage but used to regenerate focus, you gain 14 focus for each steady shot
Disengage, You leap backwards, clearing movement impairing effects, 20 sec cooldown unless you play with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera, then its reduced to 10 sec.
If you play with Posthaste you get a 60% movement speed increase for 8 sec after you've travelled in the air.
Ofcourse there are more abilities to use but these are the ones I feel are the most important for new hunters to keep in mind.
Mend pet, by abusing mend pet with a macro listed below you can keep urself in combat 24/7. its very useful when the enemy team has rogues on their team.
4. Gear & enchants
My personal preference is going for high agility NOT gearing for high off-stats such as crit & haste. I also like using versatility enchants on neck, ring and back. 10.58% increased damage is just too much to not have. So heres the gear that is best in slot in my opinion for arenas and bgs.

Trinket 2: http://www.wowhead.com/item=126948/defending-champion
Weapon: http://www.wowhead.com/item=122366/u...cannon&bonus=0
As you can see im going for a lot of agility. Reason is because i dont find crit useful since its 150% dmg in pvp.

6. Tips & macros
Going to add more tips & tricks soon.
What I try to do when I play hunter in Warsong Gulch I mainly try to help my team to gain midcontrol and later peel of for enemy flag carrier when the flag is picked.
Midplay:
It's important to NOT get too tunnel visioned whilst mid so you dont miss when the enemy flag carrier passes mid. Hunter is the perfect class for this with their insane mobility with Posthaste and aspect of the Cheetah. Playing with the minor Glyph of the Cheetah makes it easier for you to keep the speed up without having to think about turning it on/off.
Counter shot:
Important for hunters now is to not get faked, since hunters cant rly faceroll down healers anymore as you could in mop. Means you have to think abit more when playing and not just cs the first cast you see. I guess the best way to practice this is to duel or just play bgs over and over until you learn when and what to kick.
Roar of sacrifice:
When im queing bgs i dont see a lot of hunters using Roar os sacrifice very useful, sadly.
Using it good can prevent one of your teammates dying, and its pretty easy to use it. As you're probably focusing on what targets are worth hitting in mid you also notice (i hope atleast) which enemy players are able to deal a lot of damage at the time and therefore also see whos taking the D. If you use my mousover macro i posted below you simply just mouseover the person whos about to take damage and use it. The chance of him surviving increases a lot as he cannot take critical damage.
Traping:
Lets talk about how/when you should trap your targets, and for what reasons.
Traps last 7 seconds and breaks whenever the target takes damage. So theres different ways in using this. First of you can use it to cc (usually a healer) for 7 secs while killing another person. Its very effective in both arenas and bgs. Keep in mind that if you trap a dps and theres a healer around they can dispell the trap and the dps can keep attacking you, whilst the dps cant dispell the healer. So traping a dps is only useful for either preventing a cast or if you need some distance between him and you, meaning youre traping a melee class.
How I trap in 1v1s or 1v2s vs healer dps. I like to play close casters when I have both trap and disengage aviable, thats because i want to be able to trap 1 magic pool and cs another or simply just prevent the same. but vs certain classes such as shadow priests its better to trap damage and counter shot heals. But after you have used trap its important to play at max range so they cant stand freecasting on you!!. Vs melees you trap to gain distance and thats about it. Theres no offensive CDs you can cc in this bracket so dont think about that really.
Traping in arena. As i said abit earlier healers can dispell traps from others. So what you want to do in arenas is to trap healers mainly. I try to trap as early in the game as i can as pretty much everyone in this bracket trinkets it, no matter if their partner is safe/not. This means im able to fully trap them (7 seconds) whenever i can go for a kill on their partner/s. It's also good to not Coutner shot before trap but to instead save it if you havent landed a kill during the healer is trapped. Another useful way to trap in arenas is traping a dps when hes in LoS for his healer, meaning he cant get dispelled.
Hunters tracking:
This is very important that u have activated. You simply spot your enemies on your minimap and you can tell which way the flagcarrier is going and when people break of mid.
