29 CC Mage

Hello readers,

I'm currently building a level 29 CC mage on the Skullcrusher realm, battlegroup Cyclone.

This is my first serious level 29 twink, so i could definately use some help from some of the more experienced people in the 20-29 bracket.

My idea was building a CC mage with as much HP and Mana as possible. Spellpower is also kind of important, because i hate to lack damage. I will have to find a balance between the two.

I would like some information on what enchants to get and what quest/bop items i shouldn't miss.

Thanks in Advance.

Cyclone is pretty dead now that all the good players xfered to reckoning, but if you're set on that bg, I would prob just arm soopermanjr, who is by far the best 29 twink mage I've ever seen ever in the history of ever.

I could see it being frustrating to pug with a mage against a bunch of hunters though

How good are mages in the 29 bracket? I don't see too many mage twinks. Would it be fine just to stack spell power? I was thinking of making a fire mage.

@Kermit

Because mages have no healing spells like a lot of other casters in the bracket they get eaten by the endless amount of huntards. As a premade support damage class a SP stack mage is probably going to top the charts nearly every game. Since there are not very many 29 mages I could not show you one way or the other how good they are. Solo against pug huntards it is not as pretty. For better survivability I would suggest frost as it still has shatter combo which can deal a lot of damage.

this mage is nearly unstoppable, especially with her priest guildies nearby. totally owned the entire WSG battle, was buffed to ~2400 hp, the most i have ever seen on a mage in a 29 BG

I played 29 frostmage before 3.1, I had stacked frostdmg only and had around 900maxhp. It was pretty easy to survive and critted unbuffed about 700 and with xploits like over 850 with frostbolt. But I stopped to play it after patch cause my maxhp is 600 and a lot less spellpower, still can crit over 500-600 if u stack sp but I'd suggest to max stamina and int before spellpower.

ps. Hm... actually I went to test my mage and it has over 1k hp and 2k mana with easily over 200sp with boa-items. First crit was over 600 and I'm thinking about to regear my mage again :b

@ Riksu, that sounds pretty ridiculous, because my first guess would be that fire does the most damage, but this sounds wicked. Might try the frost side out some time ^^. Thanks for the info.

@others, Thanks for the info too! I needed some mages to copy, so i'm very gratefull about that.

my 29 mage is frost currently - I do quite a bit more damage with that than fire - possibly owing to my abysmally low crit%.

I've around 1200hp/2200mana and 185 frost damage. I mostly pug with him, against low hp hunters ones it's about a coin toss if I live or die - against proper twinked hunters I'm dead meat unless icy is up..

Against most other classes I do fairly well - but let me tell you noting is worse than loosing to a hunter who didn't even bother taking off aspect of the dazed while facerolling you -.-

@ Facebook, No prob hehe

I dinged 28 today and got most of my CC gear ( Eagle stuff mostly ), and started doing some Battlegrounds. The first thing i noticed was, that i had to play VERY DEFENSIVE. And that fire spells are bloody useless vs. well...everything? I managed to kill pretty much all classes except for hunters, and twinked 29ers. So far, it has been a pretty funny experience! Didn't think i would like it this much.

Keep the information coming btw! Can use all the help i need!

Rofl

So you managed to kill untwinked puggers?

Skillz brah skillz

Edit: I will give you props for picking a non hunter though. Sorry, but that was way to funny for me not to point out.

It was meanth in a way of that i wasn't able to beat fully twinked 29ers. Anyone with common sense would know that ^^.

I got it, it's just funny how you could kill "everyone" except twinks (which in 3.2 will be "everyone")

Frost is just op bacause of Shatter :b u'll get crazy critchance with deadman's hand, frostbite and frost nova. U also get better survivability with slows

This is a 29 Mage as a FC/Support toon that's several years old and very effective in battlegrounds when flag carrying and CC'ing others as needed:

[char=Dalvengyr]Meed[/char]

Generally speaking anything encountered on the field that's attempting to stop me from getting to the flag or getting to the cap gets slowed, frozen, polymorphed, counterspelled, hit with an Iron Grenade, or blinked away from.

If you want to kill stuff a Fire+SP build might be the way to go, but you'll probably find that you have to have a strong healer teammate to stop multiple frequent trips to the Graveyard.
