This was back when I was probably closer to the average age of people in this thread.

16 year old body builder, gunna be taking a break from body building to pursue football

Seriously impressive dude, until people attempt lifting it's hard to grasp the dedication and hard work required. Alas, I incurred a major back/stomach injury that screwed all my progress. I now surf and maintain a lean functional body mass but I plan on getting back into it someday.

Like it's cool and all to be in shape and be proud of your body, but why are so many dudes here bent on showing off half naked pictures of themselves? On a website with a severely young male-tilted demographic, even less of whom are interested in anything resembling fitness of any kind?

I'm not talking shit, it's just really weird. I would imagine just a picture of your face would suffice, or even a waist-up shot while fully clothed.

People tend to be less understanding of hobbies and occupations they don't themselves partake in. Lifters have been "showing off" pictures of themselves since the dawn of interwebz. Nothing new or unusual about it really; the dedication and effort it takes to achieve things of that nature are impressive and if people enjoy sharing it with others... seems fine to me. Hopefully that helps explain away the "weird" perception you have; if it doesn't I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you don't hit the gym? Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but it would explain your reservations. I find gun nuts who post pictures of themselves with guns a bit odd, but I understand it. Same goes with car fanatics; to each their own brother, to each their own.

Oh don't get me wrong, I totally understand the desire to show off results of the hard work and dedication that it takes to maintain a physique that's worth showing off. I just question the motivation behind people here showing it off on the platform they choose to (xpoff 19 tink forums). That's the part that's just weird to me. It's akin to having a massive collection of Beanie Babies and choosing to go show them off on a car rebuilding forum. I feel like there's a place for it, and xpoff definitely isn't a place I would expect to be on the list of places to go show off that sort of thing. And I go to the gym, but mostly just to maintain some aspect of a healthy existence, I'm not there to get swole or jacked or anything of the sort.

So you understand the "hey look at me" desire - or in other words 'showing off' - but find it weird that people are posting "hey look at me" photos in a "hey look at me" thread dedicated to "hey look at me" posts... Your Beanie Babies argument is entirely irrelevant . I think you should just come out and claim your stamp of disapproval because there is nothing "weird" or "unusual" about people posting full body shots in a real life picture thread or photos of themselves partaking in other hobbies; it's fairly standard throughout a variety of forums and websites with varying subject matter any time 'real life pictures' are concerned. You will find people holding guns, next to or working on cars, shirtless or at the gym, posing with a variety of sports equipment, or hell even possibly next to their Beanie Baby collection.
