19 Mage Questions!

Hey there Twinkinfo. I have a few questions regarding 19 Mages. Just for a little backround, I am going CC Mage (unless I indicate otherwise) and I don't have access to BoAs.

Question 1:

I know the normal spec for a Frost Mage is 4/5 Imp Frostbolt 3/3 Frostbite 3/3 Permafrost

BUT

Would it be a viable option to either drop Frostbite or Permafrost for Precision for free hit and mana.

Question 2:

Could anyone make a chardev of the highest +Fire SP setup possible?

Thanks!

getting hit on a mage can be a problem granted but with gear you can easily get 3.5% which is only 0.5% miss chance vs all races except belfs and dwarves. If you're horde then I'd advise to leave the hit issue there since dwarves dont exist and to just be a little more vigilant. If you're ally go draenie and pick up a free 1% hit :) If you're still not satisfied then maybe pull 1 point from another talent and put it in precision. Mana shouldnt be a problem.

Frostbite, maybe. Permafrost, hell no.

This ^^

1.)

Frostbite procs all too often, even when speccing 1 point into the talent.

So you could definitely sacrifice 1 or even 2 points from frostbite and put them into precision.

5/5 Imp Frostbolt, 3/3 Permafrost, 1/3 Frostbite, 1/3 Precision. That's the spec I've got at the moment. I've got 5.73% hit and loving it.

It's not the preferred cookie cutter talent tree build you see everyone with, but I thought I would give it a go and it has proven to be quite effective.

And although there is a 10% difference between the proc chance on frostbite, I really cannot tell the difference to be honest.

2.)

This is the best I could come up with. The only things you will need to change are the weapon choices. The MH should be the [Devout Aura Stone Hammer] with 30SP and the OH should be [Mystic Tome]

mages can't use maces

#showtooltip [target=focus,harm] [] Polymorph

/stopcasting

/clearfocus [modifier:alt][target=focus,dead][target=focus,noexists]

/focus [target=focus,noexists]

/cast [target=focus] Polymorph

This is a pretty cool one too

#showtooltip

/clearfocus [modifier: alt]

/focus [target=focus,noexists]

/script SetRaidTarget("focus", 1)

/cast [target=focus]Polymorph

/stopmacro [nogroup]

/s --== Sheeping and Marking "%t" ==--

sheeps and marks with a raid icon 1 (star) can change to 5 for moon it also announces sheep which can get annoying you can remove the last line

i found that alt is a better modifier for clearing focus because i have sheep on button two and still have shift+2 for shifting between action bars

character planner . sp mage . chardev seven

Thanks a lot for your input Firetruckk!

Now, I will have to somehow do that without BoAs, seemingly I won't have as much spell power but I believe I can do it. Thanks a ton!

Also, thanks for your speccing advice, I'll try both and tell you what I think works best.

@Wuv: This is the Chardev I made. PLEASE feel free to critique it and tell me if there is a better possible BiS for Frost CC :)

The highest sp weapon set a mage can get is actually not BoA, its Staff of the Blessed Seer with minor wizard oil.

Alright thank you! I'll write that down :]

Don't for any reason think about doing anything but 3/3 Permafrost, it's a must if you're speccing Frost. I've never done any points in Precision but I can see it's usefulness (I use hit elixirs always). If you're going to put points in it, take them from Frostbite. Frostbite is more like a nice bonus to CC, it's not a main source. Also along that same line I'm a believer in 5/5 imp Frostbolt for the same reasons.

With the recent reduction of spell costs frost spells have amazingly low spell costs, frostbolt is 27 mana, Nova 24. It's pretty hard to mana out these days (it didn't happen much before either), so in a lot of situations stam in place of int is preferable. Consider picking up a Bloody Apron in place of TBJ for instance. I don't pug on my Mage much so you may want a little more mana in a pug but it shouldn't make a huge difference. Things to think about:

Seal of Sylvannas > Advisor's Ring.

Dawnblade + Furbolg Pouch > TCS

10 stam satchel belt

Thanks for those gearing options. I was already going to get the Dawnblade and Furbolg Pouch and Seal of Sylvannas. But I'll make sure to get a bloody apron aswell!

Also, thanks for your input on the spec :)

I thought the best set up for GC mage was buzzer blade with 30 spellpower and wizard oil with an 8sp off hand? you're tradeoff is 5sp or so for 6 crit rating

Ya once he tries it he can see if he needs more stam or int, just a feel thing.

Chardev is good bro, my set without boa's is only like 1200 hp and 1300 mana so your doing better than me for casters.

I wish I had access to BoAs :(

If you're using a hit elixir always BoAs don't really mean anything for CC, Staff of Jordan isn't BiS anymore when hit capped, and shoulders are a steep trade for two extra stam.

But I know what you meant.

Oh as an aside, I don't know what you planned as your second profession (assuming Herbalism), but the utility of having bombs, especially when Nova is on CD, is amazing.

Yes I am going to use Hit Elixirs! Very good idea. But I'll get a ring for arenas :) Also, I was going Engineering. For bombs and goggles.

Question for you Ertai, are bombs usually accepted in Ruin Premades?
