19 Druid Guide

1.0 Prelude

So, why twink a druid? If you enjoy a more defensive playstyle - carrying the flag and healing with a little cc support, a druid is a great class to twink. If you have the gear to support it you can pick and choose your play style depending on what is needed in a game or what you feel like playing at the time. For someone as easily distracted as me, it’s great to have one character that can play more than one role.

So let’s break down your role as a druid in WSG a little more, shall we?

1.1 Flag Carrier

As a druid you are able to amass the largest hp pool (at least in bear form) that can be attained at level 19. The reason for this is that bear form increases your stamina by 25%, so you go from having pretty decent hp in caster to an impressive amount in bear. You also have the ability to remove snares through shifting in and out of bear form as you move, and the benefit of being able to remove or be immune to polymorph. Combine this with hibernate to help with hunter pets, entangling roots and nature’s grasp and you are a very annoying opponent for the other team to say the least.

1.2 Healer.

As a druid, the majority of your heals are hots or have a hot component. Hots (standing for heal over time) are great as a buffer against damage, and as a druid you will probably find yourself taking a more proactive approach to healing - throwing a hot in anticipation of damage rather than reacting to damage that has already been done. As a druid healer you will need to be aware of the classes around you - if there is a class that has the ability to purge and the player remembers to use it, you’re going to have a lot more trouble and will need to alter your strategy. Same goes for classes that can interrupt casts, especially since being locked out of your nature tree also removes your crowd-control abilities.

1.3 DPS.

I can’t say I have much experience with dps at the moment, however at 19 this is not your specialty. It is possible to do decent damage if geared for it (whether balance or feral) especially if you make use of the various buffs and debuffs in a game well. However, you will be sacrificing a large amount of survivability to do this.

Note: When the flag carrier debuff goes up, any speed increases including boot enchants are negated. For this reason it’s a good idea to have a second pair of boots with a pure stamina enchant on them.

2.3 Balance

For a balance druid, please refer to the healer gear list and select gear that has spell power as a stat, and enchant with spell power. You can also substitute pieces with green 'of nature's wrath' or 'of healing' gear.

Pretty much what my 2 gearsets looks like, only other thing I can think of is lavishly jeweled ring + bronze ban of force for healing set. Also some druids prefer alot of spirit mixed with spellpower for healing set. As for dps, having your healing set on means you can do decent dps, with 153 spellpower I hit for 120-140 with my wrath and about 50 for moonfire which is pretty good.

Sorry for the amount of time it's taking me to complete this guide - in the middle of assessment at the moment but will be free of that in a few days. I've included your suggestions Zanex, and in the meantime if anyone has any other gear suggestions, tips and strategies they would like to see added please feel free to respond - I'll try to incorporate as much as I can.

Balance druid (healer and dps role)

Helm - greentinted/fishing hat +8 sp

Neck - pvp or 3 stam

Shoulder - Talbar mantle with spell power naxx or ZG one...idk...I'm not knowledgable about the shoulder enchants

Back - WSG cloak with 10 shadow resist or 70 armor

Chest - Inferno Robe +6 stats, 150 hp, 6 mp5

Bracer - Crystalline cuffs +sp (amount of sp on enchant? 16?)

Hands - Jutebraid or Magefist or 4/4 eagle +sp (amount of sp on enchant? 15?)

Belt - Girdle of the blindwatcher

Legs - Leggings of nature's wrath or 5/5 of the eagle or Darkweave britches, with either golden spellthread or runic spellthread attached.

Boots - Fishing boots with boar's speed, or green boots of nature's wrath, or 4/4 eagle, I'm sure there's other viable boots...any non-fishing boots can receive +7 stam or minor speed, minor speed recommended.

Rings - Seal of wrynn/Seal of sylvanass/Bronze band of force/WSG ring

Weapon - Face masher/evocator's blade/Dawnblade +sp enchant (amount of sp on enchant? 30?)

OH - furbolg pouch or a random green or the druid quest offhand (50 mana/3 sec for 15 sec, 30 min CD)

There might be some holes in the gear, I just came up with stuff off the top of my head but that's about how I'd gear a DPS druid.

Okay thanks for that - plan to eventually have dps gear for feral and balance listed. ;D

well honestly feral DPS is so bad that i personally wouldn't list that. but go ahead and post that if you would like, i'm sure there's people out there that want to try new/challenging stuff

Feral would be mostly for s&gs - I doubt many would choose it as their primary since there are other classes far more effective at dps, but for those times when you're pugging, everyone is farming in mid and caps/returns aren't happening it'd at least make the game more entertaining for you.

My healing/balance set is:

No head yet, still fishing.

3 stam neck

Talbar mantle

WSG cloak /w 70 armour

Inferno robe /w 6 stats (had 6mp5, but I still had to go to the huts a lot, so figured 6 stats would be better.

Crystaline Cuffs /w 15 spellpower

Serpent Gloves /w 16 Spellpower

Girdle of the blindwatcher

5/5 eagle legs with runic (have 9 of healing legs too, but rarely use them)

4/4 eagle boots /w minor speed (still fishing)

Bronze band of force

WSG ring

SoTBS /w 30 spellpower (in pugs with good opponents I normally go with dawnblade /w 22 int + furbolg pouch though)

All this leaves me at about 1100 health and mana unbuffed, and 153 spellpower, then sometimes I switch pieces for my FC set if the group I'm against is too good, so I need more survivability.

Also in my FC gear I chose +10 haste on gloves, because it helps alot with rooting opponents, and I didn't think 16 spellpower or 15 agi would be any difference. Now I see that rejuv is used a lot when FCing, so 16 spellpower is probably the best enchant. (The armour from 15 agi is small, and dodge is no use because 90% of the hits are from behind.

Have added some more gear (in the healer section) and recommendations for balance gear. I'm working on a feral set at the moment, should have that up in a couple of days hopefully.

I'm also considering putting together some screenshots of some of the places you can go as a flag carrier etc, and general tactics - would people be interested in this or prefer just a gear list and some general advice?
