US My Thoughts Leading up to the Twink Cup

I fucking hate writing, but every now and then I feel so passionately about a topic that I am able to overcome the wall of anxiety that comes along with writing at 40 wpm to share my feelings.

Since we are less than a month away from the Twink Cup, I wanted to get some of my thoughts out in a written format rather than having diarrhea of the mouth syndrome and just spew out shit off the top of my head on stream. I get asked a lot of various questions on stream, ranging from "why the fuck haven't you cut off that mop on your head?" to "kill fuck or marry; @Mvq, @artonkn , @Conq ?". While no doubt these questions are thought provoking and make me question our community from time to time, I was asked a question that really stabbed me in the gut.

"Where has the hype for this year's Twink Cup gone? It seems non existent?" I tried to tackle the question off the top of my head on stream, but after 15 minutes of rambling I realized that it was not one factor, but many little factors that have built up a relatively sized hurdle. Rather than say what is wrong with the situation, I am going to try my best to encourage how we can set a better tone as a community going forward in the last few weeks leading to the TC.

1. It's summertime, get the fuck on and queue pugs! And going with this message, I'm going to drop the bomb on this and say that EU is dead, time to activate those subs on US for the summer season. The salt levels on the other side of the Atlantic have exceeded an all time high and the remaining twinks left in the gulch that do not disappear after the opening mid fight from the plague of the "Black Cat" are finding themselves having a 5v10, with no following games. Remaining survivors from the plague do as Christopher, and travel to the new world.

A change in our community this expansion that has happened from the evolution of streaming gives clear indication (viewer count) when people log onto the site whether or not they should bother queuing up or not. I would like to encourage people to queue up earlier in the day, and to set a standard for this summer I think we can easily set the bar to 4 eastern pm (BH Time) for when queues can be expected to pop, especially with the influx of EU players coming over to participate in the Twink Cup. The quality of pug games on US has only been on the incline, and if you are a player looking to participate in the Twink Cup and find yourself not playing pugs, I will be getting better than you, and I will dunk on your face Steven Adams style in the TC.Any competitive player thinking they can not improve from playing pugs is lost and needs to get their feet wet in the pug scene, cause bitch I'm already swimming! On top of this, have multiple classes that you can play on each faction. Keeps games fresh and it allows you to swap characters and roles based on people that are queuing and balance factions. If I can have 24 level 19 twinks, you can at least have one on each faction you fucking casuals.

2. Get involved in the Twink Cup! May sound silly, but this is the biggest event in the entire Twinking Community! Why sit on the sidelines when it all goes down when you can be a part of the event itself! If you are a player that has not found a team but are interested to get involved, there are a ton of teams recruiting! Don't sit on your ass and wait for them to come to you, show some incentive and reach out to a team that is recruiting for their roster. Don't play the class they are looking for? ITS FUCKING 19s!! Every class has 5 fucking buttons, challenge yourself out of your comfort zone and reroll the class they are looking for to get involved! You will only improve as a player playing/understanding the role/limits of various classes in the bracket. I cannot stress this one enough... If you are a new team looking to participate in the Twink Cup and you have yet to play a premade, get some games going against other guilds or real ids. You will get absolutely face rolled in the Tournament if you do not have practice and repetition with your teammates before the event! Synergy, communication, and understanding the meta is essential to giving yourself a competitive edge! Maybe you are someone that is not interested in playing in the tournament, there are a lot of other opportunities for you to get involved. If you have diarrhea of the mouth syndrome like myself, get involved in the commentating side of the tournament with the NWL team. Do you like to write, I really fucking don't but here i am 190283109238109 words later, create written content to get the juices flowing. Reach out to @Conq (no he didn't pay me to do this), we are looking for people to carry out the interviews starting today for teams and players in the community leading up to the Twink Cup. Don't like writing, who said you have to write! Record an interview and make a podcast, run a Skype interview. Do you have an excess of gear/enchants that have been sitting in your bank? GG19 is funding a lot of players that are participating in this year's tournament! Reach out to them and lend them a hand! Heck, you may have a better idea that no one has ever done before, rock out with your cock out and JUST DO IT!

3. Tailing off of #2, I'm very excited about the Donation Goals for the TC, except I think 2 of them are not worth anyone's time. The other thing I would like to mention first and foremost before I go any further, as these donation goals/events are great, they should not take priority over the production of the Twink Cup, if we get crunched on time fuck it, it's just an extra. For those of you excited for the 1v1 tournament, this is what you can expect... https://www.twitch.tv/fearthebuns/v/69160059?t=54m36s . Very aids long 1v1s with very little ways to outplay your opponent, and an entire viewer audience ResidentSleeping... It's a fun idea I've considered running as an event in the past on stream, just doesn't work out as there is not enough abilities. Some sort of an All Star Game has been suggested by other people to take it's place which I think would be much more appealing than the 1v1 tournament. Not sure how you would decide the comp that would be played for both teams or how players would be voted in, someone would have to take that up.

I don't think anyone is currently looking forward to the 3v3 tournament as the money prize pool has been taken away from the event and 3v3 19 arenas with standard comps end in 15 seconds of the gates opening. I HIGHLY suggest running under-powered 3v3 tournament. The players that would want to participate in the event in the first place will have a much better time during the event as the games last much longer. Allowed classes; Resto Druid (Limited to only Thrash when in cat form... No combos/FB), Holy Paladin, Demo/Affliction Warlock, Fire Mage, Spriest, Elemental Shaman... No melee dps. Normally when I have run these in the past, we run mirror comps and end up having the most fun, could also allow teams to build their comps from scratch. Interested on discussion from you guys there. Here is an example of mirror matchups that we spontaneously ran on stream the other day. This is the slowest possible mirror matchup given the class restrictions I mentioned above running Resto/Affli/Spriest, but none the less for those that want an idea for what this could look like... https://www.twitch.tv/fearthebuns/v/68951132?t=01h50m10s. Want to hear you guys talk this one over, especially people that would be interested Participating in the 3v3 Event.

4. I spoke to Conq earlier this morning on what I feel is the missing ingredient for this event to reach it's potential, without further ado here is my copy pasta.
"Just best way to look at it from management point of view is that everyone is volunteering time for this event, although the pieces of the puzzle are different sizes, the integrity of the event should be welcoming not only from a audience standpoint, but for the cast involved as well, think that is the best way to put it, And this idea really carries over to every aspect going into the tournament, not just commentating" This is an grassroots tournament that a LOT of people are volunteering time out of their everyday lives to be a part of, whether players take time off that are competing in the tournament, people dedicating hours of time for the production of the event, to people working behind the scenes commentating/running the streams.

This time around I feel that we have lost our sense of comradery as a community and have been very quick to turn on each other over topics we disagree, and this ranges from everyone from people nit picking rules on the Twink Cup thread, to lead officials of the tournament back lashing at said people over personal agenda/bias. As a community, we need to have better consideration for everyone coming together to make this event possible, we have made miles and miles of progression this expansion, and as we come to the very last weeks of Warlords of Draenor, there is no doubt in my mind this has been the most successful expansion for 19 Twinks (HOLY SHIT WE ARE FREE I CAN SAY TWINK) as a community, we must remember how we got to this point. Unified and with mutual respect for one another in the community so that we can come together to make events like the Twink Cup a possibility. Bring something positive to the table, and if you want to discuss something that you feel needs to be addressed, do so in a way to keep the integrity of our community above all.

This took me two painstaking hours to write, but my conscience is clear and I got my thoughts on the table.

A final note from me personally, the one thing that has made this expansion exceptionally fun for me is being able to play premades against all the guilds and go head to head in competition, but after it is all said in done I can hop into a Curse call with Muskie Gang, Dan Man crew, The Pizza Hut nerds, F2P arena washups and the Flock and be able to shoot the shit and pick up some Real Id premades after the fact. We take for granted the community that we have established this expansion, and I want to continue forward playing with and against all you nerds for the time we have together... SO QUEUE UP FUCKING PUGS HeyGuys

When the op post is longer than the patch notes for a entire expansion that could be the lack of hype factor. Wod has gotten stale so people aren't in immediate hype mode. Since Legion will be hitting I feel many will instantly get more involved and be more interested.

I'd like to mention as well that we've seen a large amount of individual donors this year. Last year's prize pool was the result of a few very charitable people, but this year has been a lot more about the community pitching in, and hopefully there's still more to come.

I listened to this while reading HB's post.

Twink Cup hype.

cba to read but i disagree
I'm 90% this.
I read the first couple lines.
EU looks dead - agreed.
Should Sub US - agreed.
There's no TC hype coz of what u listed - agreed.
But I mean this post is unnecessary, everyone is thinking 100% what you are, and just because you wrote it down does not mean it'll happen and come to life. I get that you might want to vent etc. But if you see a massive difference I'll eat my words, otherwise I recommend, you just do what you did last time and take a break. This community is not worth forcing yourself upon it.

Can we get a TLDR version?
Queue for some pugs, do all you can to get involved in the TC, underpowered 3's are more entertaining that 1v1's :ResidentSleeper:, and remember what we twinks went through in this whole expansion to get where we are now. Let's not see it go to waste.

There wasn't the preparation/lead up like last years. I'm definitely on the outer fringe of 19s but I wasn't aware of this TC until 6 or so weeks ago.

A large part of it is just people being burned out by WoD and waiting for Legion.

Less teams signing up so less streamed wargames compared to last year which leads to people being less interested.

(Purely personal opinion) If you look at the current team signups, especially leading back to last years' TC, the only 'known' teams are SR/GSC. There's players from other teams that have formed their own bands, and WFS is back, but from a spectator's point of view, I'm only really 'hyped' to see GSC vs SR. They're the only teams with a history/rep behind them at the moment.

That's not to say in any way I'm not glad the other teams are involved, and looking forward to see them play, it's just from a being interested point of view, SR vs GSC decides the tournament.

Especially given this tourney's focus seems to be all about 'SR killers'.
