EU+US The insidious influence of Shadowlands™...

Has the proposed leveling-redesign of Shadowlands™ altered any of the plans for your F2P characters?

  • YES - I'm now avoiding the remainder of this expansion, in case Shadowlands™ negates any effort.

It taints the decisions of F2P characters, and infests the threads of F2P forums...

It encourages every conceivable F2P action, while justifying any F2P's abstention...

It is the universal caveat of F2P advice, and the unseen undercurrent of unanswered questions...

It has become the ALPHA and OMEGA, a ubiquitous mantra
encompassing both unlimited possibility and the Harbinger of the Apocalypse...

It is...

"...because SHADOWLANDS!"

-- from The Scriptures of Sin'Dor (Chapter VI, Verse IX)

It's been over three months since the expansion-reveal at BlizzCon™, and I trust that everyone here has a basic understanding of the drastically-different world that will be awaiting low-level characters in Shadowlands™.

Of course, what obviously hasn't been announced is how F2Ps will fit into that "world"...
  • Perhaps F2Ps will get "Chromie Time" access to all previous expansions, ushering-forth a wondrous "F2P Paradise" of scaled content?
  • Perhaps F2Ps will be transported to Exile's Reach and capped at Lvl-9, never to escape?
  • Perhaps F2Ps will simply remain in the "current" unscaled-Azeroth, and essentially nothing will change?
  • Perhaps Activision™ will use this opportunity to make Blizzard™ rescind access to "free" characters entirely, and instead limit people to un-savable "Play Demos"?
The point is... since we obviously won't get F2P details anytime soon, the only thing certain is that (for better or for worse) a fundamental redesign this extreme makes almost anything possible!

So let's set put-aside any "predictions" or "hypotheses" or "beliefs", and focus on one question:

...in the face of such profound uncertainty, have you changed what you're actually doing on your F2P characters? o_O

(NOTE: Speaking of BlizzCon™... if any of you were unable to partake in the cornucopia of WoW panels/interviews during the event, feel free to check my recent "Started Threads" for a secret gift. ;))

Im excited for shadowlands, I feel like there are 3 ways it can go:

We get a lot of new content, so I get a lot of new things to farm.

Nothing new really happens and I keep farming what im still missing.

Blizzard locks us away on the starter island and I go on with my life cuz I have probably spent too much time on this game.

Right now I just keep farming as usual, cuz we have no idea what will happen or no control over changing it. Just gotta do my things.

If your prediction is essentially "things will either get better, worse, or stay about the same"... then yes, you've got everything covered. :p

You can always make toons after Shadowlands. You wont always be able to make toons before shadowlands.

Your logic is sound, but it's probably worth reiterating that Blizzard™ only mentioned having fewer options for "the first character on a new account". (I wouldn't want anyone to feel like they were somehow "obligated" to start leveling an-army-of-alts).

That being said, we're still at the "anything is possible" stage... so if someone's got the time to spare, I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a few extra 20s stashed-away "just in case". ;)

we get squished down to level 10 but 20 remains the f2p cap so we have to level 10 more levels so essentially lvl 40 bfa is the new f2p cap

The way I see it (for ftp and btp), is either we get everything, something, or nothing with shadowlands coming out.

Either way, one thing is clear (or possibly clear). We get allied races next expansion either from our ptp accounts or from buying them off from the store page that the old gods whispers tell us.

feel like 10 will be the new lvl cap, like then pay to move out of the starter zone, maybe ftp get put in brackets 10-19? or 10-14?, if they break up brackets by 5 again, still wondering if they leave the xp-off separate thing, i mean it killed all the brackets so my guess is they will leave it. worst case is you cant do bg's anymore unless you pay.

I'm just excited to see if twinking comes back, and if f2p and vet stick around. Talents and abilities are going to change, and hopefully we see a shift in power for some classes. Also, being able to do raid content and have quest and raid gear from bc-bfa.
