US Official LGBT Armory Thread

One can definitely choose to act offended, especially in an online setting where it doesn't involve face-to-face interaction or real life ramifications. I'm not claiming that discrimination doesn't take place, especially in a country like Turkey that doesn't have Western values, but the internet is a very different place.
So you're saying people in this thread are just acting offended?

Makes sense. Allowing transgender students to compete as the gender of their choice would disrupt the competitive balance, specifically MTF students competing in females' sports. Their bodies are completely different in terms of athletic abilities. It isn't fair to the girls. There is no perfect solution to an issue like this, can't make everyone happy.

I'm no mind reader, but let's just say there is a high probability of some self-triggering.
You mean like Jamesb? :>

I somewhat agree. Obviously there are biological differences, but having your birthcertificate determine your gender (or sex, not really aware of the difference in english) surely must feel like a slap to the face to the LGBT people

Good to hear, was worried for a second, since you seemed pretty upset that this thread was created

There have been a few cases of this over the years, of transgenders joining girls' sports teams and completely outclassing everyone. I just don't think it's fair to the huge amount of girls/young women who participate. On the other hand, females have generally been welcome to go out for the guy's teams if they think they can make it. Like I said, this isn't going to make transgenders happy, but it's really fair given the biological differences.

I think the state of Texas is trying to just adopt.a uniform policy so that defining a transgender's gender insofar as youth sports are concerned doesn't have to be considered on a case-by-case basis. I agree that a legitimate transgender's gender preference should generally be respected, but this is one of those exceptional situations where it just doesn't make sense, regardless of whether the state of Texas went about it in a PC manner.

I think we need another thread cleanup.

Actually your birth certificate does not determine your gender your either X/X or X/Y. There is not other determination that matters.

You'd be surprised. A friend of mine is XXY. Yes, that's possible. And "she" is one of the smartest people I've ever met. Tying gender to chromosomes or physiology doesn't provide a clear picture.

why is this a slap in the face if it's accurate 99.5% (purely invented stat) of the time? what's the alternative?

you can write either gender or sex in english, they mean the same thing in this context.

The alternative is what the LGBT community has been fighting for for years; that gender is a social construction, and that you should be free to identify yourself as what you feel like.
