US Mage or Lock?

What are the pros/cons of each spec, and of the two classes which has more general purpose or is of greater need? I've been in the 29 bracket for a while now, but I would love to return to the 19 bracket on either class given how much better they look at 19 compared to 29. Thanks in advance bbcaiks.

@Tribes I'm gearing my lock at the moment. Is destro > affliction? Is there a reason you chose gfg over magefists and crit enchants over versa/haste?

Destro just hits harder imo. and the crit is for chaos bolt and conflagrate but i use my crit chants in 2v2s etc and haste in bgs for incinerate spamming etc. but i'm really not the person to ask.

Right on, thanks.

Destro can be fun especially if your team plays with/around having you, coordinating chaos bolts with swaps etc. you have limited snares and spreading immolate is "ok" damage, conflagration can help secure kills a lot. You suffer from very low mobility and no escape mechanics if you don't play goblin. I really enjoy demo, your dots don't do a lot of damage but you can spread them like a boomy and leap around and get fears on people. Passing out health stones is pretty great, and soulstoning a healer or frontline in pugs. You can combat bug like a hunter but it takes more work, and your pets die faster.

Arcane Mage has a lot higher mobility, consistently high damage, counterspell, ice block... You can triple DR sheep a kill target to keep them in place etc. Frost can be good with smart pet usage. Can also combat bug like warlock, and snares are always nice. Frost is great in arena.

Overall Mage brings more to the table but if you find warlock fun definitely give it a shot. It's hard to see what a warlock brings over a boomkin sometimes though.

Yeah it looks like I am leaning towards Mage. If I were to play Warlock, it would be Demo in all likelihood, but CS and Ice Block are more compelling than spread damage from dots, especially when there is a better dot class in the bracket. Thanks for the input.
