Happy holidays everyone.

We are looking to add 3 moderators to our team. With Broken being promoted to Administrator and several moderators lacking the needed time to dedicate to the position, we need to push forward.

I am going to make this application very simple and straightforward. Please be in-depth with your responses as applications that show little-to-no-thought are quickly disregarded.

PM Title: Moderator Application

Application Questions:

1. What is your availability on a weekly basis? What timezone are you in?
2. What qualifications do you possess that will help you to succeed in this position?
3. Why do you think you should be chosen over all other applicants for this position?
4. Do you have any staff members (past or present) that would vouch for you?
5. Anything else we should know?

----------

Application deadline is December 28, 2014 by 5pm PST (GMT -8). We may extend it if we do not get a lot of applications due to the holidays.

Good luck to all that apply!

These are global positions, yes? Are there any specific subforums that should be taken care of, or is it just to, well spread the load so one should take care of everything and anything, more or less?

<3, Sela

I'm curious about this as well. Do you prefer for your moderators to specialize in monitoring specific popular subforums, or is it an at-large position? Do you feel there is a benefit to having mods who are well-invested in a particular bracket and know its members and can specialize in its needs?

We tried that with Bracket Managers and there just wasn't enough work to go around. So, moderators are responsible for the forum as a whole. We have a 'Reported Posts' forum that every moderator dips into as well as looking for issues in any threads that they are viewing on their own time. I would say a moderator typically spends about 6-8 hours a week policing the forum. Sometimes it is higher. I am just giving you the numbers on the low end.

Yeah, like Shane said, Mods are responsible for the whole forum. But that doesn't mean you have to necessarily do work from other brackets in situations you aren't sure of, if that's what you're worried about.

For example, I myself have mainly only been involved in the F2P bracket. I spend most of my time reading threads there and if I come across something that I feel needs to be moderated, then I'll moderate it. However, member reports can come from any sub-forum. If someone reports spam from the 19's forum, then it's pretty obvious it needs to be removed. But if a guide needs to be reviewed, there's drama between two parties or something similar, then I'd let Laurasia or Mocha handle it, because they would be able to make better decisions with their knowledge of the bracket. Not only are they more knowledgeable about game-related stuff but also the bracket's community, its issues and its social norms.

Realistically, I don't think it's possible for anyone to be an expert in every single bracket but you will be expected to help out, where possible, in brackets you don't "main" in.

Deadline is the December 28th by 5pm PST (GMT -8). Again, we may extend if we feel people need more time due to the holiday season.

Hopefully you'll get some good mods, Merry Christmas Shane!

Letting applications go through Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 5pm PST. That is the definitive deadline.

New moderators will be announced towards the end of this week as the current staff votes on them.
