Holy->prot pala gear

Tryptozzar

Legend
So when I rolled my pala, I intended him to be holy, but lately I've been finding prot playstyle more to my liking. I originally took quest rewards that would suit a holy pally, but I imagine prot in holy gear wouldn't do that well. So my question is- what are second best items for a horde prot pally, pre-loom, pre-BoE? Specifically looking for advice on weapon, shield and boots.
Thanks in advance.

WSG sword.
Deathgate Shield
Gorewalker Treads

Trial account, this char has only 1 loom- pve mail shoulder int loom.
I have argas str ring, bracers of the most trusted. no deathstalker's pauldrons though.
holy gear in bank: sfk quest chest, uninsured bracers, gloves of the hero, scales of akumai, shield of talrendis point (so no 3str 3stam 3hit shield)

Weapon from wsg, but i dont think its worth losing that much honor points, better wait for heirloom weapon. shield loom, there are no better shields for horde than this one (only boe with extreme low dropp chance) for boots i prefer boots of the hero or savage trodders. look at my 19 pala, maybe it can help little. In my opinion you should farm bg's for loom set, but i know it will take long to get full set. GL

You've barely started using that character. Why gimp yourself? Reroll. Make it a tauren. Much better stats for prot. Have one for prot (and ret if ret if stops being bad) and one for holy.

it costs like 40 honor.

Rerolling now wouldn't be much of a loss, only the int loom (that i got from last month's DMF). I like the silence belfs have, stomp DRs with HoJ afaik. +1 stamina on shields basically nullifies the bonuses of the tauren health racial. I think I'm gonna stick with blood elf (lore reasons+personal preference+nostalgia). I don't have the time (nor the patience) to grind out looms for 2 palas on different specs. Tried healing spec, I ran out of mana constantly and didn't really like it all that much. Guess I'll stay a dps player.
Thanks for advice anyway. Cheers! :D

HoJ's aren't everywhere and stomp AoE stuns. Its not like everyone in the area is stun immune all of the sudden. Tauren still got better base stats for prot and continue doing so in WoD.

Race - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft
Belf loses 6 stam with +1 stam shield enchant accounted in and lose 6 base strength. Its like losing another Argas if you roll Belf and you don't gain anything except cosmetics.

And...doing DMF for tickets isn't alot of trouble for even 2 chars.

You have to think down the road concerning DR and racials. Much of that is going to be changing in just a few short months. In addition, it may be even more difficult/time consuming for lowbies to get the justice point versions of the heirloom pieces come 6.0.
It may be best to have two separate toons one set up for STR/ STA quest rewards and one setup for INT quest rewards.

It's an 8 str loss. 47-39 base str.

A perfectly valid reason.

The stun shares DR with HoJ and the silence shares DR with AS, so roughly equal. The stun works on all classes, while some classes are unaffected by a silence.

In WoD, if ret isn't useless, BE may actually be better than tauren. AT will also add a charge of holy power, so you can get off TV more often.

Indeed reroll. No sense grinding BoA's for the next 6 months only to have an incorrect quest reward. Are you going for MAX FC or DPS or something in the middle? The mail crit pants from BFD + loom shield are BiS FC. The crit isn't bad for dps either... but some other paladins should chime in for what's best dps.

Well, I deleted and rerolled. I had nothing major going on with the pala and I figured why not. Will try out tauren prot pala to see if it feels right, if not, then belf again. Gearing up with quest rewards and boss drops isn't difficult nor that time-consuming.
I'm trying to have some kind of balance between FC and DPS right now. My shammy fills in the FC role for my toons. Goblin ele shammy makes for a suprisingly good FC actually. Maybe I'll go full FC with pala, but this early I don't know exactly. Time will tell :D

Redbeard is best for dps.
pants all the way.
hero boots is really the only quest he misses.
