Mage or Warlock?

  • Hey guys, I was hoping for some opinions and input merely on the decision between making a Mage or a Warlock. I know next to nothing about both, but seem to think that either Ice or Arcane are the "preferred" Mage specs, while Warlocks typically are using Destruction. Anybody have one or both that could weigh on Pros/Cons and help me decide?

I also just noticed that it looks like a necessity for a Mage to level to 24 since they receive two milestone spells at that level for Frost and Arcane; Fingers of Frost and Arcane Missles, respectively. However, it seems the only spells Warlocks learn for any spec beyond level 22 is Eye of Kilrogg and Unending Breath, which certainly do not seem mandatory in the least. Any thoughts? Sorry for all the questions!

probably warlock if you're playing without a healer a lot.

Both suck equally, but I did see a mage dominate WSG ONCE... but mage is a class that takes a lot of thought, like when to freeze and when to blink.

    Both are super squishy.

Locks bring nothing to the table except a slow, and their damage is not too good, but not too bad.

But if you truly want to go with a lock or a mage, I would go mage. Boomie is still #1 caster though.

Dont make a warlock if your looking to have a lot of fun. Locks can do a lot of damage and do have CC but they get so boring. Enjoy having rogues 1 shot you.

I'd love to know how this turns out. I have really never played any spec but affliction and I said, after my MOP beta testing, that if I wanted to play a destro lock, I would be better off rolling a mage. Destro spec seems like there is a bunch of standing around casting. When I played Affliction, I never stopped moving unless I was fearing someone.

If I come back, I will probably play priest or resto druid instead... at least I can move while casting.

Ignore these quotes.. they clearly don't understand what they are talking about. Warlocks are awesome and fun to play with alot tools to work with and when played right you will just kill the rogue who tries to 1 shot you which does not really happen, it's a figure of speech. People are just bad with locks or don't understand how to play and form their opinion about them but don't let that influence the choice you make.

You play warlock at 20 or 24?

I am not saying you are wrong, just asking.

If you are demo you can beat a rogue, if not your 1 shot unless the rogue is complete shit. I did play a 24 warlock for a while got bored don't play much anymore. Most brackets are epeen wars and class envy.

I like all the evidence and facts that you gave to support your argument! You definitely changed my mind about warlocks not being useless!

A p2p 20 and 24 and ofc this is with demo and it is also doable in destro but alot harder. Don't forget the disarm from the void.

Rogue opens with ambush, lock presses darkregeneration and healthstone, rogue does hemo or try to get a lucky evi crit if he isn't disarmed by the void, lock uses leap... dead rogue cause of locks controll and the gap he created with leap (trinket poison if needed).

    1. I can dps through dark regen

    2. Voidwalker disarmed me? I trinket

    3. Lock tries to leap? Good luck with that, I gouge. OR, use a swiftness potion.
