F2P with No PvP

Something someone said in one of many threads got me to thinking about a totally hypothetical situation. If you're interested in a little abstract thinking, please read on.

Let's say for the sake of the exercise that F2P had no access to any battlegrounds. That Blizzard had made the decision, for whatever reason, to disallow F2Ps to play in BGs at all. Remember, "that's a stupid idea they would never do that" is outside the scope of this exercise, so I don't want to hear it.

Would you still have gotten into F2P, if the access were exactly as it is now but without battlegrounds? So you would still have access to all world events, and to world PvP if you flagged yourself, and everything else... but no battlegrounds.

Now as an extended exercise, also consider the same scenario, but you also cannot flag yourself for PvP and do not get flagged when entering an arena (and obviously can't loot the arena chest). With no PvP at all, would you still play F2P?

If so, what would you do / how would you spend your time?

Discuss.

I don't think I would be playing WoW at all then. Ever since I started playing, which was somewhere around mid Vanilla, I've always enjoyed BG'ing to the fullest. The only exception to this was during Lich King, when I raided with basically my entire class -- which also was alot of fun.

If BG's were removed I would consider it to be fun to do some PvE'ing at 20. For instance, get a group of 5 and run BFD with only level 5 items -- which I think would make quite the challenge. But that would be fun for maybe a couple of weeks, then I'd get bored.

EDIT: Actually, it'd be fun to do some PvE'ing with limited gear and or spells. If anyone on AP would be interested in this, hit me up :)

Overall I'm not so into events and RP'ing and crap like that :/

I definitely wouldn't play. The whole reason I got hooked into F2P is because the PvP reminded me of how it used to feel in Vanilla. Smaller health pools, quicker deaths, that whole thing. Without PvP I'd probably have spent my time doing productive, real-world things, but I'd be hollow on the inside because of it.

I don't think there's a such thing as a bracket without pvp under level 70. Atleast then you can do arenas but if you took out the whole no arena rule and didn't get flagged for that either then I think wow would die.. Whether blizz likes it or not pvp runs this game and I'm pretty sure not many people would stick around just for the same ole same ole dungeons/raids.

As for me if we had no pvp I would reroll to the most popular realm out there (as would 99% of the bracket that stays) and I would do as many arenas as possible. If we had no arena and no pvp I think this whole bracket would die as well as 90% of the game. I know you said not to say it but "that's a stupid idea they would never do that" cause it would lose them to much money :p

Definitely yes, I made several trial accounts when they were only 10 day trials, for the sole purpose of rampaging through Ashenvale after getting a few blues from dungeons. However, I probably would only have rolled on PvP servers if BG's were unavailable. And I would have hoped that there was a designated PvP server like AP. As long as there were enough people enough in the wilds for me to kill, I would be satisfied.

I would have tried it out simply because I loved Warcraft I, II and III. However, after defeating all of the instances a couple times and any quests, I would eventually lose interest. It would be like Diablo, which is awesome, but you can only have so much interest in any quest/dungeon before I get agitated.

The community would have to be massive for me to stay without PvP for any length of time. And I'd mainly be staying for the creative aspect of Wow (It does widen your imagination imo).

But in the end, for a game to keep me hooked, there must be the knowledge that somewhere in the game world I can compete against real people.

as said before, wow would suck and i would just quit. I have other games to fight other people on that im equally as good at. i do have a toon whose sole purpose is to just rp walk and throw beer around, but thats only fun for like 15 minutes until its boring. If pve was fun in the least and there was ample dungeon selection i might stick around, but WoW pve is extremely boring. The only game that is fun without pvp is probably dungeons and dragons. Scripted enemies is NOT fun. its predictable and stupid.

If this were the case, the f2p 'bracket' would resemble level 1 twinking, I think. It is still interesting to push the boundaries of the trial account in terms of achievements / rare item hunting. People would still feel compelled to do 'unique' things on f2p accounts, such as getting world explorer, rare mounts, and the like. That being said, the pool of people doing this would be so much incredibly smaller than it is now.

In other words, there would still be fun things to do but it would become tedious and unrewarding quickly.

Also,
I don't understand the question...

No. The only good things, about this game, are raiding and imbalanced pvp.

Dumbest thread.....ever.

If WoW didn't have PvP, it'd be no different from a game like Borderlands, where you can buy it at Walmart for $20 and you'd log in, play the game through, once maybe twice, then shelve it like everyone else before you has already done.

I think a lot of people would be twinking Rift F2P or playing LoL instead. A few might actually sub and play xp locked twinks in WoW though.

I used to do a lot of dungeons on fully twinked Chars in cata, just for speed runs and big pulls, but MoP killed PvE for me, because the healing got so stupid, and my warriors lost abilities that made tanking fun.

I might have... i would try and get groups together and run as high level dungeons as possible, maybe even stuff like bfd with whites on or something.

Just to be clear, for Lillhunter and Kahr from your replies I'm not sure you got my point, that BGs or PvP didn't exist just for F2Ps. I'm saying the game was exactly as it is now for anyone with a subscription--I'm not talking about what would happen if they removed PvP altogether. If they, for example, had held PvP out as an incentive to subscribe, the same way they didn't give us Pet Battles. I'm interested to know if your answer would be different with that clarification.
