Why Afk?

Dare to be Optimistic
I found myself just asking this question. Why do people afk. I know there is that whole Win Ratio thing but people don't go around I never loose look at my win to loss ratio......Is that your way of admitting defeat, you lost so you end it quickly so you don't have to suffer? Or is it that you don't think the remaining time is worth your time cause you only play to win? Isn't the thrill of coming back and winning one of the most exciting feelings out in the game of wow? This is not a QQ about people Afking I just want to know the thought process/logic around it. Because If I could put myself it the shoes of the other people would I do the same? I would like to think I wouldnt but Logic dictates otherwise. So please explain this to me. If someone can give me a valid reasoning for afking before a loss I will most likely never bash it again.

It is often a matter of pride. If you do well, but come in danger of losing due to the actions of some lost individual, why be brought down by them?

As Dorigon says, it is a matter of pride but it is also to show off your e-peen. In forums such as this with threads made up of 'win/loss ratio %' people are wanting to have the highest possible (90-100% win ratio) to feel superior to others that do it 'legitimately'.
It is also a good reason to /afk if you're being graveyard farmed, as who wishes to spend 19 minutes of living in the graveyard each battleground?

Ok being farmed....afk out so someone else can come in and grant the people extra kills rather than sit in ghost and one less person for those honor kills. I often read while sitting as a ghost.....good to past the time :)

Exactly why be brought down by them? why admit defeat when you played well. Its all a matter of sportsmanship in a sense. bye afking you put yourself out of the game for 15 mins when if you stick it out and play your best you can reque and hey maybe that lost individual learned something and you turn around and win?

I get what you guys are saying but still in my opinion logic still ways on the end of not afking and I guess I should state that these are my opinions.

I only /afk if have to go and do something more important (even if winning so it gives someone a chance that could use the win more than I).

That is the whole point of the afk system so your not stuck in the BG and you gotta run to do something. Im going to pen point a particular situation, Game starts maybe 5 mins in and the mid fight doesnt go your way......you afk, how does that solve anything? here is another example you play the whole game out and right before you lose you afk out.....now that doesnt make any sense to me what so ever.....just so you can say my win ratio is great you dont play for 15 mins. I dont know about other people but 15 mins to me is alot of time considering I work 2 jobs. So my wow time i would prefer to not sit around with a deserter debuff. Now I would prefer not to be farmed ether but hey I cant have everything the way i want it.

Pretty much what Dory said. I also don't wanna stick in a game where its a waste of my time like being gy farmed or facerolled. Why sit in a losing game when I can just log on another 19?

Can you point out even one thread in the 15-19 forum that is about win/loss ratio?

cuz pixels should be stressed over 24/7. anyone who does something wrong in a game of wsg should be arrested asap..... or made to read all of dramatized's posts in alphabetical order.

I think people are curious about the players who afk out with less than 1 minute left in the game. Why not stick it out for a few more seconds and be able to queue again right after that game, instead of having deserter?

Yeah I don't get how people are willing to spend that much time in Stormwind/Orgrimmar, if I was to afk in the last minute I'd at least play another twink, not sit in SW/Org with deserter and queue once it's over.

Outside of being GY camped, or IRL issues, theres no good excuse to /afk out. Most of the /afk seen in BGs is from spoiled brats, no matter what their excuse for doing it is, it all boils down to being butthurt about taking a potential loss.
