I locked the account on the 31st and the hacker has made 3 different phone support calls to try and get the licenses unlocked.

He really is a tryhard.

Reading that US official forum thread makes me weep and laugh at the same time. The level of ignorance, lies and stupidity is beyond fathomable. They claim they can't delevel characters, someplaces even mentioning the requirement to enter game coding - even though it has already been done without much hassle, they claim that they don't allow you to move things that you had on the character to a level for 1, yet this is also a very common way of dealing with the issue .

People claiming that Blizzard is supporting twinking - something of which they have never done and never will do. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Behsten and Slahtz aren't there because Blizzard want to support twinking. They created a barrier between people leveling and twinks - almost killing the bracket in wotlk. The "EXP off" wasn't to "help twinking", we were doing just fine. It was to help people trying to level in BGs getting whipped by twinks and get them out of the battlegrounds.

Someone has to make people aware of basic knowledge of twinking such as this.

I swear to god, the stupidity of both players and game masters expands with expansions.

It doesn't matter whether or not he has a freaking authenticator on if the person is faking his ID documentation - it's just removed on request.

No one here knows what the hell Identity theft is?

That thread is a disgrace to say the least. The reasoning people use is idiotic at best. How gold selling was introduced into that thread is beyond me. Gold selling a multi-billion dollar corporation? You're kidding right? We can't blame this GM for not doing anything. His or her hands are tied. When it comes to deleveling I don't think it's the GMs choice to make. And it's sad to read the commenters lack of comprehension that no high level of security by shinobi can prevent an account hack using fake identification. Also, fake ids are not difficult or risky to make. Never have I heard of blizzard reporting someone for fake Ids. And the use of real Id for only real friends is flawed reasoning. Real Id was implemented to create social interaction between players within the blizzard community; without that blizzard would crumble.


While we can all agree that the hacker is truly to blame here, I feel that blizzard is mostly at fault here. The bottom line is they need more proof than a simple id to recover accounts. Or at the very least to implement a deleveling system.


P.S. Props to Feraltwink despite some of the flawed logic.

Why would Blizzard be the only one that can report fake id-usage? i In this case, Sneaky could just aswell do it, or me, or anyone else for that matter. I also would like you to explain how it's not risky to forge documents.
 
Im assuming your question was supposed to say "can't". And the answer is they aren't. Infact many companies can't and won't unless its regarding the employment of someone. Fake identification is one of the least punished felonies in the US. There are websites that make fake Ids for all states and many of my friends have them and use them constantly. When I say it isn't risky, is speak regarding to use of account recovery by blizzard.

No, it was supposed to say 'can'. I don't think you understood my point.

Essentially, what I was trying to say was that Blizzard isn't the only ones that can report someone for forgery of documents, as I said, me, you, Sneaky or someone else could might aswell do it.

Fake id and forgery of documents isn't the same thing. Fake id is just an id which is fake. While forgery of documents (like in this case) is when you "steal" someone elses' identity.

Using fake IDs as a method of ID theft isn't hard when people don't play close attention. Blizzard is not playing close attention in this case.
Insult to injury, Blizzard won't know the face of the person who first started the account, making life easier for stealing through fake IDs, especially with their way of performing account recoveries.

Oh, I understand. I suppose others could try to report him. Not sure of where that would lead or if you even have enough evidence.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the hacker used nothing but a picture of a fake ID to steal the account.
 
Haha reading that forum and all the blueposts makes me wonder if the damn games worth paying real money for anymore... hahaha. I mean seriously, the only thing those reply blue posts generaly say is an "intelligent" version of "no i cant help you". Damn, the job of GM's certainly is an easy one!
