So what Talent is everyone choosing?

I would assume Nightstalker or Subterfuge for Blood Elf's.

Nightstalker is best for burst provided you have combo points (it's really a minimal change in play style), subterfuge is best if you have a high level rogue with decent cooking, and an herbalist. Finally, shadow focus is for combo points if that's all you care about.

well.. the only reason i say Subterfuge on Belf's is because in PvP you can get off 2 Ambush's with the help of Arcane Torrent ;)

I am a human with subterfuge and i get off 2 ambushes everytime... you dont need to use arcane torrent as the energy regen is fast enough to get you to 60 energy again before subterfuge has worn off.
Ive seen Night elves with subterfuge get 2 ambushes off, drink a thistle tea, shadowmeld and do it again.

ok.. so I wasn't sure if you can recover the energy fast enough within that 3 sec.

If you can get 2 ambushes off with just normal energy recovery, then Night Elves definitely should be going subterfuge imo

Nightstalker - if you actually want to be a valuable member of your team and play objectively.

Subterfuge - if you want to dick around in mid farming kills or if you want to be a D rogue (not sure why you'd want to do that, though)

Couldn't of said it better.

subterfuge is fun and has a lot of uses, with combat stealths with dots on you it gives you 3 + free seconds of stealth to sap anyone not in combat around you
also with subterfuge you are able to open on someone and still sap anyone within the seconds ur in subterfuge, regardless if youre in combat or not.
in PuGs alot of the time a rogue will just be sitting around on roof waiting for more people to come, in that situation nightstalker doesnt help at all, where as subterfuge can give you incredible solo gibs at high stacks in games with a lacking offense.

Idk how ppl seem to overlook this and think nightstalker is the only valid choice.
Well said

semi off topic, but gear related.
I've been running a solid AP dps set. I'm probably currently wearing it in my sig and actually loving it... my crit may be a percent or 2 behind, but I think the payoff is worth it. I wish I had my Tunic of Westfall and another SF to be "perfect" but this will do I guess.

Up until 5.0.4, the rogue’s main goal was always to return the flag as soon as possible, whether that means waiting for stacks or waiting in his own flag room for his prey to enter. More recently a new goal was introduced to the rogue class: Defend his own flag carrier. Why should a rogue play defense? Well, rogues took a significant mobility nerf with the loss of gouge, sprint and shadowstep, making it very easy for an enemy flag carrier to outrun the rogue. Subtlety rogues have gained the ability to Hemorrhage, placing a long duration Damage Over Time effect on as many targets as he chooses. This ability is an extremely potent asset to weakening an offense, especially those who may be able to stealth

Talents

Since there are two different possibilities for a rogue’s positioning (offense and defense) there are two talents that I feel are most viable. However, these are very preferential and dependent on playstyle:
Nighstalker:
  • Offense Utility: Easier to reach EFCs that may kite and/or have various movement speed increases
  • Defense Utility: Easier to keep up with your flag carrier if he kites, as well as enemies who may attempt to evade a fight
Subterfuge:
  • Offense Utility: When an EFC has several stacks it may be possible to burst him down with 2 ambushes before his defense can notice. However this only works against a non-kiting EFC
  • Defense Utility: Easier to burst down several targets or shift the offenses healing priorities while remaining in stealth. This also makes it very easy to focus one person down and makes it easier to restealth while dotted
If you drop combat with subterfuge for one split second no matter if you're dotted or not, you will get at least 1, and in most cases 2 extra ambushes which can be completely gamechanging.

Against a kiting FC, it's very easy to simply not get kited and cut down tunnel to sap efc if he is not in combat. If you open and he continues to kite, chances are your offense won't drop him on the run anyways, so restealth. Nightstalker is nice but those rogues who dealt with having stealth speed nerfs should have the brains to live without the bonus speed increase very easily and still be equally effective.
