F2P or not F2P? a dilemma

everytime i try to focus on a F2P character, i get frustrated by the inconvenience and limitations.

i mean, don't get me wrong, i am not complaining about F2P because i can't play a 24 that curbstomp 20's. i could definitely roll a 20 paladin and have a higher win ratio than my 24 rogue who doesn't really curbstomp 20's to begin with.

everytime i play a F2P character, i feel "man, why am i wasting my life on this stupid video game". that same feeling doesn't occur nearly as often when i play my paid characters. i don't know why, but that's just how things are.

please tell me why you chose the F2P path and how you cope with the F2P restrictions.

Things are probably worse at the end than at this bracket.

You're probably getting that feeling because of the limitations you put on yourself rather than the game; you have the full game, why suffer grind an bs?

Yeah it can be painful to build a f2p (I've found alliance rogue to be the easiest choice). You can get away with not having AGM in this bracket as well which is nice. DMF helps out alot with BoAs. But if you're paid why not just build a p2p 20 with f2p restrictions?

But once you build that toon it's fun - it's a healthy bracket with consistent pops. My biggest frustration is the lack of objective players but you will find that in any bracket.

Cancel your sub - get the f2pchat add on and go native.

Frankly it is a waste of time but there are far worse vices...

I chose the f2p path because my interest in WoW was minimal, but I was bored, and I saw the f2p add. Decided to give WoW a try for the first time ever just this past spring, and got hooked on it. I honestly don't know what the big fuss is about the restrictions.

have you ever had a full account?

F2P is a great alternative if you are burnt out after you are done with an xpac and are going to let subscription lapse anyway. People are linking their f2p accounts to their main, and get all the mounts and stuff, so that's cool. Do it while your subscription is still active and profit.

I liked the challenge of one's character having to do absolutely everything for itself. But then again, I also like to walk around with a 300 pound "handicap bag", to slow me down.

had both.As we call it my p2p was my rifle and my f2p was my gun, one's for fighting and the other is for fun. At first on my p2p the goals i had were: to destroy 5 man premades of any caliber be in p2ps or f2ps.Later on those goals changed

.

I used to teach test prep for Kaplan and I definitely found that the students who were paying money for test prep took it more seriously on average and spent more time doing it than those who weren't. The students who could motivate themselves without paying were of course in the best situation.

I stopped P2P a while ago because I was feeling that I "needed" to accomplish certain things to be getting my money's worth. I still get the itch for P2P from time to time (fortunately most 24s in the bracket have low skill, or I'd get the itch more often), but I remind myself that whether I play the full game or not I'm still "wasting" time on a video game. Don't let the money you might pay make you value it more.

Do the hours you probably spend (like I did) on the auction house, grinding dumb quests, etc. make the game more worthwhile?

I try to remove the time pressure I used to feel. Like - "I need to get this alt up and geared by this weekend". If you play with those feelings, then you're going to want P2P more cause it's easier to do things faster (like BoAs etc). When I get those feelings, I make sure I get in the queue for a BG with one of my finished or near finished toons to remind myself why I'm playing at all.

well i renewed my account so no more debating whether to F2P or P2P for another 60 days.

thanks for the input:)

If this is a consideration for you, then you should probably be doing f2p and not p2p because:

- If you're worried about wasting time on this game, why would you want to waste money on it?
- There is no carrot/stick treadmill in f2p. This is true for twinking in general, but not only is a character done when you finish it and available for play at your convenience, but you don't have the added pressure of "I paid 15 bucks this month I should play it at some point."
- I find I spend a more moderate amount of time playing f2p. There is less stupid stuff for me to invest my time in, so I log on and play bgs (which is all I really want to do) and log off, instead of logging to do a bunch of quest and rep grinds I wasn't actually interested in in the first place.
- You get to where you want to be faster: when you want a new toon or a new class, with the restrictions it doesn't take long to gear one up to acceptable.

After leveling so many toons in p2p wow I found the f2p restrictions to be a fun new way to do things, almost like a challenge. F2p has also been great in making me less addicted to this game in general.

My goals were to always to get the most out of a free sub. I have a P2P account on and off when I get bored of my hunt or want some endgame type stuff (70 raids) yet I still have more fun on my trial with the samething over and over. F2P gives you a chance to see how many limitations you can get while still being productive. Cant whisper people? Learn to emote. Cant trade people? Learn to talk people into letting you win rolls easier. Cant use AH? Go out and grind that thing you see in AH you want so bad.

The only limitations to trial is really social and productive issues. If you can't handle getting all the gear you need yourself and need the AH or to trade people F2P isn't for you. F2P is that change that many vet WoW players that's bored with the same old lving questing dungeoning and raiding should try out to get something new/challenging.

It's been difficult for me due to the social aspect of this game.

I've been used to having a guild to do things with since 2007 and when I play my F2P I definitely feel a bit shut out.

I definitely understand what you're going through!
