Stat Weighting the NEPTR

Galvarino

Legend
  • 5.0.4 infused ordinary paladins with demon electricity, giving rise to a deadly OP style: the Never Ending Power Throwing Robot.
Stacking int, and backed by unending manna from heaven, "heal"-adins can rack up crucial support kills and apply DPS pressure anywhere within heal range, while maneuvering quickly and eating damage like a Practice Mode npc.

After the 40% resil boost, it's much more difficult to burst anyone down in a matter of moments, especially a geared healer. As a result, the commonplace insta-gib moments from pre-patch have become significantly fewer, and these days it's often only a danger from several enemies, rogue gangbang, or 24s. Also, with the reintroduction of DS giving pallies a true fight reset, I've found the Insignia to be distinctly less crucial in many combat situations, even for a non-human.

As such I've been running with as much int and crit as possible, because getting myself destroyed is a much rarer event in these strange times. By contrast, my proficiency with destroying others has become much more important, and it's often relevant to team success.

Based on the great potential of Denounce Forever, (and Holy Shock) I recommend de-emphasizing stam in holy paladins, and using things like

Girdle of Nobility - Item - World of Warcraft

Brilliant Necklace - Item - World of Warcraft

Mystical Pauldrons of Elements - Item - World of Warcraft

Discerning Eye of the Beast - Item - World of Warcraft

I'm becoming convinced that an int build expresses the best paladin potential in this present moment. Personally, I switch between Murder Mode (Mystical Pauldrons, Aurastone, and 2x Discerning Eye) and Durability (Lightforge-Blessed Hammer-Insignia) for high-pressure situations. For those of us who fanatically play paladins, this seems to be a rewarding course of action. For everyone else, I suggest straight-up Murder Mode, with however LITTLE resil you feel comfortable adding.

    Thoughts?

Just critting for 400 on my shaman who crits ~150 with Lava Lash and goes oom after 3 500crit heals...

do you obsessively play a Holy Paladin?

I'm not much of a screenshot-taker, but if I were I'd have some prize scoreboards for you, reminiscent of Prot pallies after they patched Cata in pre-release. Instead of monster Hammer of the Righteous and constant free AS procs, nowadays a Holy pally can top damage, KBs, and healing by bringing the pain with Denounce, HS and HoJ.

It's an unfortunate truth that the spec, like most f2p specs in 5.0, is simple, boring, and repetitive. However, that doesn't mean it can't be played with skill, and there are still good an bad paladins.

Beg to differ.. Get beat by Hpals who spam denounce wayyy more then I got beat by pallies who spammed exo..

Denouncex3 then use divine once your low depending on how much your enemy did then one holy shock and FoL then more denounces til you get back to 30% then another shock n FoL and spam denounce some more. By now you will have never came close to dying and whoever you're facing if they cant heal or have a healer the fight is over.

Hpal spamming denounce is the same thing but worse then when Hpals would spam exo.. It's really quite funny even when I die to one

I guess if you want your pally to be a one trick pony then you could just do a denounce build, but if you want real damage roll a destro lock. To me denounce is a joke, its just hpals thinking they are casters but its such little damage. it just seems foolish when they just go up to me and spam it.

Don't forget the utility element of Denounce. IMO it's very underrated. Although it's rarely intentional, being hit with a well timed denounce is terribly frustrating when I'm setting up an Evisc on my Rogue or Shatter on my Mage.

Also, it doesn't oom you. There's nothing wrong with Denounce spam (as long as teammates are kept alive too, at least). There are a lot of spare GCDs while healing now. Priests/Pallies are free to cast offensively, Shamans can spam Purge and Druids can go really fast and run in circles spamming unnecessary Rejuvs while shifting a lot.

I play with a more defensive build, but that's due to my totally different playstyle. I don't mind doing my fair share of damage, but If I'm spamming denounce, it's usually to keep the debuff up on a 24 or something. I'd prefer to be healing than denouncing. Those GCD's are better spent cleansing CC, healing teammates, or tactically debuffing. Mouseover denounce is a fantastic tool to use, when you see a 24 Spriest coming at you, and you want to avoid a 1k MB crit, just don't get carried away. I will say however, that paladin is a playable 1 button class. Make a macro that casts denounce on hostiles and FoL on friendlies. I'm planning on making a pvp video of the 1 button hpal.

Edit: I'm about to go log in my current idea of BiS gear. Aside from devout aurastone hammer, which I'm slowly refarming. I no longer have one on Aerie Peak. >__o
