Tarantula Silk Sash.... Worth It?

Mocha

Legendary
As many of you are aware, the elusive Tarantula Silk Sash (TSS) is the "BiS FC Belt" for leather wearers. The next best alternative is Vigorous Belt of the Monkey. Right off the bat, the differences between the two are:

+6 Agility
+29 Armor

V.S.

+2 Stamina
+2 Intellect

I am wondering how people have valued TSS so highly when it is such a controversial exchange of stats?

I have had two and have not felt it worth equipping a belt with such a small stamina gain for a loss of 6 agility and 29 armor (not even taking into account the +% of crit, dodge, and armor that 6 agility gives you at 19 in addition to the base gain of 29 armor). +20 HP isn't even a lifestealing proc.

It is without question in my mind that if the Vigorous Belt of the Monkey is not "BiS" today, it will be in mop guaranteed if there are no other viable options. Why may you ask?

Simple: ranged attacks will be able to be dodged in the future meaning that 20 HP vs 6 agility is not even a viable comparison. Currently Stamina FC sets are more viable unless you are going against a melee heavy team because the only attacks that you may be dodging or parrying before you are blown up is usually a few auto attacks from an enemy hunter in which case stamina and/or resistance is the only way to make a hunters impact be minimal.

Would love to see some number crunching and other opinions down below!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Money. People have it and want to spend it just to say they have max stam. I agree in the sense that it wasn't exactly worth the stat exchange but its all a matter of perspective in my opinion.

I'd say use TSS for solo FCing or when opposing team is caster/hunter heavy, the monkey belt for when you got healers around and the opposing team has many melees.

OOOR do like me and use TSS 24/7 for the ultra swag factor.

this case is incredibly similar to that of the boa chest vs 13 stam chest... personally, I think the vigorous belt is slightly superior (right now). I also heard that bear form is getting a %armor from items buff in mop... another reason i would argue vigorous as bis (in mop)

Guardian spec gets a huge armor boost in MoP, but monkey belt for a feral/guardian tank is BiS right now anyways. Guardian has like 58% armor in PTR right now...

Armor increase from leather items at this level are so insignificant that it’s not even worth it. The 29 armor that the 6/6 Monkey belt offers is 0.46 physical damage reduction; that’s so minor that you won’t even notice the difference. This goes for the very little dodge you will get as well.

The Tarantula Silk Sash is best for Restoration Druids and Shamans because, unlike Protection Warrior FC’s, we rely more on our self-heals rather than stacking avoidance for our survivability. The slight health pool increase from the 2 Stamina and the 2 Intellect will provide sufficient heals and mitigation.

Its the same reason why people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for gloomshroud armour. Bis is Bis.

There are situations that make certain items better than other items, or other enchants better than standard enchants. Why make yourself stuck with one option when you can use that extra bag space for multiple options to counter every situation (however unlikely it may seem). Being able to understand how to best counter every situation by changing your gear/playstyle is what separates a good player from a great one.

While you make a good point with the little amount of dmg reduction 29 armor is also look at how little 20 hp is... They are both very small numbers of gain its just which will be more helpful

2 stam is more than 20hp if you're a big bad bear :). Plus, at least the way I play my druid, I try to get as much extra stam as I can without sacrificing resil, for instance using that 13 stam chest instead of boa and using TSS instead of satchel. It adds up in the end especially when you're a druid. And we don't really rely on dodge to survive.

Therefore the 2 Stamina and 2 Intellect is much more beneficial.

But das dosent play a druid argument invalid

EDIT: AND while also in bear form the armor of 29 is increased roughly by a multiple of 2 in my very very short testing so While I do agree in a druids scenario most cases would call for a more stam stacking approach Im just saying that its barely worth it because to some the armor may be a better choice.
TSS slightly more beneficial in some cases but not by much

I feel when every attack can be dodged this will all change. Any dodged attack that occurred as a result of the dodge gained from the 6 agility would result in a larger benefit than 2 stam yes?

+2 stam or dodging an attack from 50-300 hp or so

However it is impossible to dodge an attack and have it made clear that the bonus 6 agility was the reason why that attack was dodged. But you should be able to get my point. Can someone please show me the armor increase and dodge increases as well as the crit increase gained from 6 agility on a 19 druid? I'm only used to playing 19 rogues in which case those numbers would be vastly different.

Checked em out yesterday for lulz, and dodge was +0,96% and armor +0,74% in caster, 1,12% in bear. Crit from the agility barely affects anything, your melee damage as resto fc is so weak that the most dps probably comes from when you moonfire rogues to keep them from restealthing when they're on you, and from thorns.

But tbh, if I wanna stack mitigation, I'll make a prot FC. Resto isn't about mitigation at all.

We aren't just talking about Druids here, pal.

I agree.

My point is it is better to not take damage in the first place and if damage is taken it is more important to reduce that damage by all means... the damage reduced by the dodge and armor increase in a game is much higher than a save of 20 hp. In a world where no fc is taking damage there would be no need to plan for receiving damage. Choosing less armor and less dodge is planning to not be attacked.

Im aware resto FCs aren't about mitigation..... But it's the same concept of switching to pvp boas with resil over keeping the intellect from pve boas... My point is that the slight armor increase and dodge increase outweigh 20 hp in my opinion because guess what, FCs actually do take damage and any attempt to reduce the damage that is taken is more important than adding less than half of a dot tic in hp for a fc shammy especially when taking melee damage from a rogue which is one of the only enemies that you can't outrun.

Correct me if im wrong but crit doesn't only affect melee as well.

Just some ideas. "bis" is just an opinion since everything is situational. But I wanted to hear some opinions from both sides in this thread.
