Ret DPS

Someone was very strong in voicing their opinion in chat that Ret dps is bad and is an overall weak class. Opinions should be backed up with solid arguments though. When I asked for one, the reply was this : "Because Rets lose to Holy and Prot, and one of my holy shocks can take away the damage rets deal."

So what do you guys think? Is Ret DPS bad?
 
I haven't played f2p pally yet but...

Bad dpsers will produce bad dps
Good dpsers will produce good dps.

Maybe I'll make a swag pally, gives me something interesting to work with till GW2.
 
Prots can't crit for 1k. On every class (with the exception of hunters) I'd rather duel a prot than a ret.

Ret DPS is not bad. I dueled many ret pallies and so far they had great damage in my opinion. It also depends how geared the ret is.
 
Ret can do big damage but it's random (low crit rate) and their finisher has a long ramp up time (slowest holy power generation of all the paladin specs).
 
Im no expert at ret gameplay but it seems like you're supposed to heal teammates in between crusader strike cooldowns, so 'DPS' per se shouldn't be your only consideration.

Ret paladins are amazing. Amazing damage, but they have the weakest heals of all the specs. You do the most damage of all the specs, but your heals aren't good enough to keep you alive in long fights, since you will run out of mana quickly. A ret is unstoppable if he has a good healer with him.
 
As far as DPS its SV hunt or BM hunt for top then ret in 3rd and a big drop of for next highest dps. Ret is far from a weak spec/class

Single target sustained DPS has to go to BM and SV hunts with ret pally somewhere behind. Im not sure about fury warrior as I havent been sadistic enough to roll one yet in this bracket. Single target burst is probably still with the hunters but rogues have to be up there too. And when your talking multi-targets in BGs then an affliction warlock is king of all damage easy.

The mix of cools, stuns, and healing give ret paladins an advantage in survivability while retaining great burst and sustained damage. For me everything is a trade off. With ret your not topping the damage charts every time but you will be up there if played properly. And you have the opportunity to impact the game in ways straight damage dealer can not. For instance, keeping a teammate alive means all damage/healing they do afterward in that encounter you created.

Overall, for battlegrounds prot or holy are overall better options for direct impact on winning games. But ret is still a very viable and fun option. Often I run a bg or two on my pallies as ret just for the lawlz.

Define bad DPS?

Are you trying to ask: "Does Ret do good dmg in PvP?" Or are you asking "Does ret suck @PvP vs those terribad huntards?"

Either way, I'll answer it.



When a Ret Paladin Crits, you best better hope your not the person he's targeting. I can't tell how many times I've been hit for harder for 800+ dmg from a TV by a ret paladin. Rets can produce some serious burst if they get enough ToT. They have amazing offheals, they have a bubble(good against any melee and huntards), and exo-spamming helps against the kiting huntards. Lastly, as long as they keep their Judgement on cooldown, they normally won't OOM easily if played correctly. Oh and lets not forget that secky Long stun they have.

However A Ret paladin is not a class I'd like to Solo que with. Ret Paladins are EZ to kite buuuut they are one of the few classes in the F2P with a speed increase; so they do have the advantage there. But Rets don't have any way to get out of CC and they dont have HoF yet; so it can be fairly frustrating to play when you're solo queing.

Again, HOWEVER: If you happen to be playing with someone who can CC well(IE: Warlocks and a Frost Mage). and someone to healbot you; you're looking at a deadly class.


Back in the 70-74 Bracket, I'd group up with 5 ppl for WSG.

1. My 70 Crit Hpally(51% HS Crit chance buffed w/ rogue)
2. 73 Ret Paladin pure glasscannon
3. 72 Niff Enhancement Shaman pure glasscannon
4. 72 Niff Frost DK pure glasscannon
5. 72 Niff Sub Stunlock Rogue


Anything group we faced, died instantly. And with my immense crit chance, I always healed them to max in 1 instant cast.

Fun shit like that makes running with a ret paladin so fun.


back to topic though: Ret is viable DPS. I am sure anyone who knows how to PvP will enjoy playing a Ret Paladin.

Being on the top of dmg done every batteground shoun't be the priority of any retardin. He can be best support of his group, keeping some OP hunt alive with Crusade tallent (holy light crits 2k), hand of protection of priest, flash of light time to time to himself or other BiS geared player. I do almost equal dmg done and healing done every bg, thats my playstyle and i think it works.[h=3][/h]

Happens on my enh shaman too. imo enh is almost as OP as ret, just underplayed. And we don't have the redundantly long stun. I will be happy when I can use mail in mop, and the resil+health buff.
 
Why do you think Rets were banned in the 3s arena tourmanent? Because only Hunters burst is more retarded.
