How do you keep the transmog after mailing the gear?

You have to do it a few times... give me a sec I wrote a guide on how to do it a while ago, just need to find it. I'll get back to the thread with it

I have a method that works for me - I'd have done it, but I like the way my head loom looks

Brief Guide on Transmogrifying Heirloom

​

- Select the heirloom you wish to be transmogrified.(if your heirloom of choice is a plate/mail item, or a mail/leather item that turns to the plate/mail once you hit 40, you will need a main who is either a plate or a mail wearer, respectively).


- Send this heirloom to one of your mains, with sufficient gold (300-900g, as this may not always work the first time) (if your heirloom is a leather item that becomes mail at level 40, send it to a level 40+ shaman or hunter. If it is a mail item that becomes plate at level 40, send it to a level 40+ paladin, warrior or deathknight).


- On your main, research what kind of model gear you would like. IF YOU FIND A PIECE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO EQUIP ON YOUR TWINK, KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS METHOD ONLY WORKS FOR QUEST-REWARD GEAR AS THIS GEAR HAS NO VISIBLE LEVEL REQUIREMENT. IF YOU FIND A PIECE YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT, CHECK IF THERE IS ANY QUEST REWARD GEAR THAT SHARES THE SAME MODEL AS THIS PIECE OF GEAR.


- Once you have acquired both the heirloom and the item that you will be using for the process, head to org/sw and transmogrify the helm/ shoulder/ weapon/ chest/ cloak. DO NOT SEND IT TO YOUR LOWER LEVEL JUST YET.


- Once you have the heirloom transmogrified, leave it equipped on your character for a good minute or so.

When this is achieved, head to the mailbox. When sending the heirloom to your lower level character, DO NOT PLACE IT IN YOUR BAGS. DRAG IT STRAIGHT FROM YOUR CHARACTER SCREEN TO THE MAILBOX, AND INCLUDE SOME RANDOM ITEMS.


- Log on to your lower level character, and head to the mail. When mousing over the mail, the transmogrification will not be visible yet. Drag the heirloom MANUALLY from the mailbox into your bags, then it SHOULD show the transmogrification. Congratulations, you now look awesome!

This method does not always work the first time, so if it doesn't, don't get discouraged. On my hunter, it took my over 7 tries to finally get the shoulder xmog to work Good luck, and I hope you get it on your first tries!​

Can other random heirlooms be used as substitute for the "random items"?
Talking about xfaction mailing.

In my experience, those substitute items and waiting for a minute before sending it is unnecessary. I just sent that one item right away. However: transmogrifying pieces that change item type (leather-mail/mail-plate) cannot be transmogrified with this method. The reason for that is that you're transmogrifying (for example) a mail item onto that mail item. When that item switches type (in the post) the transmogrification is removed. I would guess that this is possible for level 40+, but I'm not sure.
