What's your favorite/least fav place to defend flag?

  • I think about this every few bgs and was wondering what other people's opinions are. What's your favorite or least favorite place to defend the flag and why? (actually defending, like when efc makes it back to their base) I've seen some people swear by one place or another as "the best."

Personally, I don't like being anywhere on the first floor. I find it harder to see incs from all directions and think it's harder to run away if you have to. Granted, I've seen this seems to be the easier place for warriors to stand.

The other place I hate seeing fc stand is on the roof, hanging out over the right hand corner. It's like you're just asking for some hunter to kill you from below or letting any rogue have a free pass at shadowstepping you.

While I enjoy people that can play above tunnel roof, I see that as more of a liability. I've seen a lot of fc's die there as their teammates aren't as adept at getting to them in time.

I feel pretty comfortable anywhere else on the roof or just above gy. There's plenty of time to see incomings and options about where to run.

As horde, the top tunnel is great for pugs since most people dont know that jump (or atleast how to maneuver it easily) Honestly though, if your with a premade, just sitting on the cap is great since when it returns you cap instantly??? ;)

I prefer to hide anywhere where a derp without nameplates on will not see me. Often because when I'm holding my team is not defending AND not returning.

    <3 WSG.

Good thing the majority of this bracket hasn't discovered nameplates yet.

as long as im not holding the flag all game while my team does nothing....i dont care where i hold it.
i do like spots with chokepoints and los so i can find those druids/rogues before they get me. these include the entrance to roof, the small rooms in both fr's, the "closet" in ally base 2nd level, zerker hut if needed while crossing mid.
the worst spot to hold, if you ask me, is the flag cap spot. ive had the flag cap glitch more often if im standing there when the other flag is returned.

They'll figure it out if you keep talking about them jeez...

My favorite place to defend the flag is by the flag carrier.

The "butt in the air" roof spot is very specific to a situation where the other team has one or several high powered rogues. Since putting your back to something solid like a wall doesn't prevent shadowstepping. Yeah a rogue can shadowstep you in the roof corner.... but then they just fall. It usually takes a few tries for them to actually get going on you without falling off, and I have been saved multiple times when rogues had me and then just shadowstepped right off the edge. Yes sometimes a hunter can sit below trying to hit you but it's rarely done, and when it is they've wasted time trying to hit you from a place you can easily move forward a few inches and los. I don't think I've ever been killed by something shooting me from below in this situation.

Rogues aside, I like the spot overlooking the ramp to the roof. If your defense team has any sense they can pick off attackers as they head up the ramp, making it difficult for them to group and get to the fc even if their offense is bigger than your defense. The fc can even help out and heal from around the corner in relative safety.

2nd level is good for an overabundance of hunters cause there's lots of walls to los around.

Over the tun is a great spot to run to when in trouble, horde side, if you can do the jump over the fence. Prepare to watch all your enemies forget all about you as they sit there trying to figure out how you just sprung over it.

It depends, on whether Alliance on Horde:

For Horde I prefer top of tunnel, as it's easily navigable, your los is great, and the other team commits too one side, as a druid going the opposite direction and kiting them in the base is a delight :)
Least favorite place to hold flag, is in those unfortunate situations where you are stuck in tun with people coming from both sides >.< You can abuse LOS all you want, but if they're killing off your reinforcements from bottum of tun, you're gonna be done for.

Now as Alliance, my favorite spot is roof. Top of Tun for Alliance doesn't provide nearly as many options for kiting as Horde, so roof is the way to go for me. There is only one choke hold, so once they start going up, you can start moving as soon as they begin to commit too roof, and even with a trap set, you still have plenty of options too make sure you stay far away from their team.
Least favorite spot is the Alliance huts, as they are smaller, and provide less los than their horde counterparts, and usually are used only as a last resort.
