Why WoW is considered the nerdiest game

I just dont quite understand it. Like in highschool I would never tell anyone I play WoW. I am just curious what you rthoughts are on why this is. Like I tell poeple I play a ton of Madden and people are like thats not nerdy at all but the kids that play wow get made fun of and shit. Also why dont girls like wow players. Is it because the majority of them are fat and out of shape o rjust plain weird. I wana know what you guys think.

The best tip anyone can give you is "Do not give a shit what people think".

As you get older you will realise this more and it will become less of an issue.

If it still is an issue, use your intuition and find out whether you feel it would be "acceptable" to the people you are talking to, or whether discretion would be more apt in that situation.

Online role playing game

Pretty much that
sports games arent judged as much b/c it's about sports, and sports aren't nerdy, rite! ...its just social norms
and fps aren't nerdy for the same reason bc u go around killing each other

Its all nerdy if you're into it enough. Doesn't matter if ur fat or skinny or w/e, it's just depends on how people judge nerdiness
and plenty of girls don't care if people game, be it wow or madden. They may be more inclined to like a sports/fps player over wow just bc connotations associated with wow (no lifer, etc) but nobody should be concerned with such a shallow person anyhow

I would consider RuneScape to be the nerdiest game. Only the biggest of nerds play it.

Like I dont care what people think to a point you know but in high school if youtell people you play wow u become a social out cast you know like i do stupid shit and say stupid shit and poeple think im stupid and honestly i dont really care but people still like me and i want no part of the wow group lol

nerdiness is becoming more embedded in culture now; back in the early days of video games it was considered a kid's game, aside competitve street fighter there wasn't much in the 90s that made 20 somethings play video games. now that time has past, there's a lot more people in their 20s and 30s that are playing video games as a hobby

part of it might also be the "wow group" is more isolated by their own choice. do they talk about wow nonstop during school? do they participate in school activities or do they run home and play? do they go out on the weekends or stay in and play? not that any of that is wrong....but doing that will isolate yourselves in a normal high school, or other, society. and from there its easy to get picked on

like i played wow in hs but i wasnt even that nerdy about it. i played football and rugby, and i went out on the weekends. its part of why i was never a top tier raider or pvp, and the main reason ive always liked twinks. get home from practice or something, log on and play a few games or farm some gear then be able to go hang out with friends; it was always on my time table. if youre in a high end pvp/pve guild you have to sacrifice your RL social time and be in a game. thats where people start looking down on you as "nerdy" and why girls might not like you - b/c all they know is you set at a comp on the weekends, then in school talk about wow more...how could they like you based on that unless they were balls deep into wow too. tho looks will go a long way for girls if you do happen to be into wow

The question tho is what about Wow specifically like Skyrim isnt nerdy, I never playe dit but I htink its an RPG

mostly marketing imo. i played a bit of elder scrolls, and nobody talked about the game back then. it was a closeted nerdy thing. but then skyrim had all these rave reviews, and appealing marketing campaigns, and on top of that gaming had advanced a lot and become more accepted by society too. and its an rpg but not an mmorpg, just changes certain peoples opinions for whatever reason

the role playing thing doesn't single it down to wow, I think the major reason wow is considered so nerdy is because of the reputation that it has built up, that people who play it sit in their basements all day and play, and when you say things like "level 85 paladin" or "night elf hunter" to people who do not play video games the first image that comes to their head is the biggest nerd they can think of.

Hey mcbank
long time no see, n3rd

In Highschool EVERYONE knew I played WoW, but no one really teased me for it :p Sure my GF gave me hell, but some of my friends even started getting into it. Now one of them is one of my best friends in-game :p

But to answer your question, I think it is because of the way it's portrayed in the media. Usually on TV, or YouTube videos, or what have you, the average WoW player is a 16-17 year old dirty ugly geek with severe acne, no friends, and awkward social skills. While this MAY be true for some WoW players, it certainly is not for the most of them.

Another outstanding point I may refer you to is the WoW advertisements. They all stress the importance of "Questing", or "Regaining your honor and remaining loyal to your faction". In reality WoW is really just about hanging out, killing shit, and killing time. If more people knew this, then the average nerdy WoW player stereotype would absolutely dissipate :p
