20 Warlock?

I've always liked the idea of locks but at the same time I've played 85 for a while before i went F2P and htye just don't bring anything at 85 besides PvP. I'm just wondering if any ones tried a lock? Do they suck at 20? Or are they a viable class?

Appreciate thoughts

One of the most underestimated classes, imo. They can be a tough choice for some to play at 20, but very interesting and fun. They really shine in premades, and if you're willing, can be a great asset to pug's. They are purely a helper class at this level, so always try to stay with a group or a healer. Aff and Destro are both viable specs, atm, but Demo is rarely played due to lack of other abilities deeper in the talent tree. I encourage anyone to try a Warlock, but forewarning, if dying makes you angry this class is not for you. <3

PRO: they are the opposite of boring. You'll have alot of skills and you will use nearly all of them (in stark contrast to the 3 buttons you are pressing over and over in abitrary order on most other popular classes). You are often rewarded for you 'skill' (situational awereness and right choice of abilities used). You can top dmg meters (if thats your thing). The better your group is, the more you will shine on the battleground

CON: you can hardly accomplish anything on your own. most classes can beat you 1v1. Fear sucks at this level (long cast time, breaks instantly if feared target receives any dmg at all). Your skills have little direct impact (i.e., you are facing the EFC alone, your teammates are far away, all you can do is DoT him and maybe get 1-2 direct spells off, hecan simply ignore you and run away, you cant do a thing to stop him). If your team is bad or mediocre, you will spend the whole BG at the GY counting down 30-N seconds

I disagree that Fear sucks. Fear wrecks druids. Fear wrecks warriors. Fear wrecks retarded rogues that play as if they dont have kick keybound (50% of the rogues in the bracket).

Locks are actually pretty powerful in the sense that we can play havoc against classes that have no interrupts. A warrior is on me? Oh no...feared, dotted, drained, deaded. Paladins after theyve spent their HoJ cant do shit either.

I have a sham, war, paladin, druid, and lock, and my lock is by far my favorite to play.

That being said its all subjective and based on your playstyle, since it takes like 3 hrs to reach lvl 10 and try out battlegrounds its worth your time to see if its the right class for you.

Fear sucks at this level

Fear is a lot better than most give credit. Even though it may break easily from damage, when timed correctly, it can be one of the best spam interrupts for healers/casters. Also, damage is not a guaranteed break on Fear. I've had a target fully DoT'd as Aff and was still able to gain a couple seconds of CC. (Those couple seconds can be crucial as a Warlock.) This spell can be excellent for saving your healers against melee. (Rogues opening out of stealth, charging Warriors, Pallys after HoJ, etc... Be creative!) Most expect this spell to be some easy mode button for survivability which just isn't the case. Good Warlocks are all about timing, and this spell truly puts that theory to the test.

"Live in Fear!"

Edit: ^ Well said, Tent. ;D

Warlock DoT's are far superior to a SPriest, as Aff you can top charts with ease. They can build up Dps fast, and have more consistent burst as Destro by not having to rely on gaining Shadow Orbs or long hard casting. Your "little pet" is a major gain over a Priest in general, imo. Soul Link is pure epic-ness! Warlocks can have quite a bit of healing utility as well. Demon Armor gains 20% more healing from ALL healing effects. (This includes Soul Harvest, Healthstones, Lifeblood, Bandaids, HPots, and any other heals people might throw at you.) It's all in personal preference and play style. SPriests and Warlocks are like apples and oranges.

Edit: Also, Priest fear is very situational and on a CD, where as a Warlock, you can fear scrubs all day long.

Don't forget bane of doom can damn near 1shot a debuffed fc and can often times be the only way to return on a good defense

Yes, Bane of Doom is a fun spell. Personally, I'm still playing around with it. Also great for putting pressure on healers, and finishing them off when they least expect it with a surprise tick.

Warlocks are indeed very overlooked and imo, they're the most fun class to play, if you have the skill of course.

Bane of Doom and instant cast Soul Fire as Destro for meh crit for around 600 dmg.

But as Bizr said, dying is quite unavoidable as a Warlock. >.<;

Warlocks rely too much on slow hard casts. Even when they can free cast, their damage is mediocre in comparison to mages and hunters. Basically, weak damage + reliance on hard casts + nerfed-to-hell fear + weak self healing + no teleport = weak twink class. They really don't turn into the caster tanks that they used to be until they have access to the best PvP gear in the game at level 85.

Reltney hit the nail on the head.

Warlock PVP is about outlasting the opponent; this works great at level 85, but in this bursty twink bracket you're going to be dead before you can finish casting your first spell. And even if you can finish casting, it'll hit like a wet noodle compared to some of the better classes in the bracket.

The worst part is that MoP may not even fix this broken class. Sure, Meta looks cool, but I'm seriously questioning its usefulness given the new 'demonic fury' resource. As I understand it, demonic fury will take time to build up; time a Warlock doesn't have.

Of course, feel free to roll whatever you want. But you will feel gimped compared to Mages and Balance Druids, who'll get even better toys in MoP (Ring of Frost and Moonkin Form).
