Just a thought...

There's a lot of utility a paid account can provide to the f2p community. Specifically, Lagoon's efforts have shown that even just one dedicated paid account who is active in the f2p community can make all the difference in the world; his efforts have brought a lot to the Horde side of the community on AP.

While there are certainly paid ally members who contribute to the f2p community, the ally side could use someone like Lagoon.

Anyway, here's what I'm thinking. I have a lot of free time, but am extremely tight on cash. Now I know you all don't really care about my life story, but this is the situation I'm in... I recently graduated from college with a BA in Criminal Justice with the intention of getting a job in law enforcement... which turned out to be horrible timing, because of the condition of the US economy... basically, when law enforcement agencies are looking to hire and evaluating their applicants, it comes down to choosing that kid who's fresh out of college, whom the agency would have to pay to train; or a myriad of folks who were previously officers but were laid off because of the infamous 'budget cuts' that have been all too common lately; whom the agency would not need to train, but simply hire and put in a squad car. Long story short, I probably won't be getting a job in my career field until the US economy stabilizes a bit... until then it's going to be minimum-wage jobs that barely cover rent and certainly do not merit spending $15 per month on a video game.

I do have a (frozen) Cataclysm-level account, though, and the time to help the AP ally in a similar fashion as Lagoon does for the Horde... the only obstacle is the subscription fee. My question to you all is this: Would you be willing to help me with the cost of a subscription in order to give consistent access to level 85 help to the Alliance of AP?

Unfortunately, I don't have any characters on AP on that account, and I'm not going to ask any of you to pay for me to level a toon to 85, so if there's enough interest in this proposal, I'll pay for the first month to reactivate my account, and use that time to level a character on AP. This will also hopefully be to show you all that I'm legit about this - it won't take the entire month just to level a toon, and after leveling I'll spend the remainder of that period helping the community in any way I can. After the first month, though, I'll be relying on you all to keep the account active... probably the most secure way to do that would be for you to buy a WoW-time-card from any local electronics retialer; and send me the activation code via PM.

Once leveled, my focus will be to provide gear runs, rep runs, summons, group formation, etc to the Alliance on AP. Priority will be given to the one who donates the month in question... so if you buy me a month, you'll pretty much have an 85 for your personal b%#$ch for the duration of that month... so you'll be calling the shots on things like AGM assistance, sporeggar rep farming, etc.

While leveling, and likely for a good amount of time after leveling, I'll farm gold to buy [Vial of the Sands] so that I can truck you around for exploration achievements, or getting FP's and whatnot... on my own f2p toon, I've found the need for someone with a flying passenger mount several times now, so having one would probably be worth the grind.

Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to see if you'd be interested in this... if the interest level isn't high enough, then this isn't going to happen, so don't go running to the store to buy a time card just yet... but if you think forking out $15 would be worth it for a month of consistent 85 help - and that there's a good chance you'd go through with it. If enough people are interested, I'll get the process started and we'll go from there.

Heyo,

Just wanted to say that I feel your pain, I'm also a recent grad whose job prospects died with the US economy (as a consequence I'll be taking my prospects to someone else's economy and see how that works out lol). Sure is a hell of a time to graduate with a BA in pretty much anything
<
Hang in there!

Except to my knowledge F2P account toons cannot group up in a party and thus cannot ride on your Dragon and thus cannot be flown all over town to get achievements.

We can group up, just can't send invites.

You're not entirely incorrect... according to Blizz, it is exactly as you stated. In game, though, this is not the case. Paid accounts can send invites to f2p players. Might not stay that way forever, but for now, grouping is possible.

Hmm, because I cannot party up with my F2P toon on my paid account, maybe I'm doing something wrong or have something in preferences checked wrong on the F2P character. I do know you can't be invited to a Guild, use the AH, trade or mail.

F2ps can group with help of P2Ps. I took everyone that needed it around on my rocket for the candy baskets, so I know first hand the group mount thing works.

Alrighty then, I guess I'll have to l2try harder lol.

I liek the idea and tbh I wouldnt mind donating smthng even though I'm horde - but game cards is so not the way to go!

You'll want to make a PayPal account and open it to donations.. it takes 15mins to setup and link with a credit card. This way people can donate any amount they want, whether its 5 spare dollars they have or 2 full months, and you can easily tranfer any the sum of money to your credit card and pay for the subscription on your own.

Game cards seem like a safer route, but then again I'm one of those people who hates putting credit card info on the web - even to generally-trusted sites like paypal. I suppose I could look into it, though. The 5 spare dollars thing could get iffy when it comes to establishing the priority... player 1 donates a buck, so he gets... 2 days? ...of priority help. Player two donates 5, so he gets 10 days, etc... what happens when they both want help on the same day? What if we give them specific days to work with, but it doesn't fit in their schedule? Just seems like it's asking for problems. The game card thing would would allow for clean, monthly incriments in which 1 player is essentially the 'VIP' and everyone else gets even access.

Anyway, to those of you who would consider donating, would you prefer to use paypal or game card?

I've been a passenger on both the X-53 and VoS as F2P. It doesn't make any difference. If you've been inactive for 90 days on your paid account you can get someone to send you a scroll of resurrection. This gives you 10 days free. Now, in 10 days you should be able to farm up enough gold, plus whatever you already have, to buy game time from gold farmers. You'll also get a rocket. Most seem to advertise 12k for 30 days game time and the rocket. I have seen some go lower though. This varies from server to server of course, but I've done it multiple times.

To the best of my knowledge you don't have to link a paypal account to use it. Mine is strictly for online and not linked to any bank account whatsoever.

If you want to withdraw from the paypal balance into a credit card, you'll have to enter your info... But its quite safe anyhow.

The gold farmer thing could work as well, though from what I hear its quite risky since if your gold farmer is exposed, they mass ban accounts that have been paid with the same credit card of the gold farmer or something like that...

I will not be utilizing gold farmers or any other illegitimate services. I'll farm the gold myself, even if that takes a bit longer.

Hes saying farm the gold and use it to buy game time.

Yes they're are people in trade that sell time cards for gold.

Smartest way to go about this.

Yes, perhaps I should have been more clear about it. In trade chat people sell Blizz store items, TCG codes, RaF rockets, Blizz store items, prepaid game card codes, all for gold. I got a TCG pet on my F2P when someone bought one for me recently. Before I stopped playing my paid account, this was what I did. The scroll of resurrection is an official Blizz concept, and the person that sends it to you gets a free month if you subscribe for a month after you use your free 10 days. If you have the time, then making the gold should be easy enough.

I'm pretty sure trading in game currency for any RL item - even a WoW time card - is against the ToS. While I have no intention of reactivating my account for normal gameplay at this time, I don't want to risk getting it banned incase I change my mind later down the road.

If it isn't bannable, then this might be a viable option, but I want to be 100% sure of that first.

Still, paypal is the way to go. Also you should know that it's a donation, so they don't need to take up days as you said.
