Twinking in the Mists of Pandaria

Fresh out of the news from BlizzCon, check out the initial buzz that affects your WoW twinks!
  • Pandarens, a new race with a 2X food stat buff, +15 cooking and a 3-second sleep racial (think magic dust). Choose to join Horde or Alliance upon reaching level 10.
  • Monks, a new class loosely resembling the druid class.
  • Three new battlegrounds: Stranglethorn Diamond Mines ("payload" gameplay), Valley of Power ("murderball" gameplay), and Azshara Crater ("DOTA" gameplay). Plus a new arena.
  • Resilience becomes a base stat, like stam, str, int, etc. ("+all stats" enchantments and gems just got more interesting).
  • No flying until max level (besides flight points).

In addition, classes get major simplifications:
  • Hunters have no minimum range for ranged attacks, but lose melee weapon abilities.
  • Shamans lose buff totems, and gain more utility totems.
  • No more ranged/wand slot for any class. These items become main-hand weapons. No more relic slot.

Character ability structure splits into class, spec, and talents:
  • Class abilities remain available to all specs, while certain abilities remain restricted to certain specs.
  • All classes now have a single non-spec-specific talent tree, and can choose only one of three abilities at each tier (at levels 15/30/45/60/75/90). Talent tree structure now much more resembles glyphs. Check out Blizzard's site for details!

Does the Pandaren 2X food buff affect Rumsey Rum? Reshuffling talent trees and spec abilities will seriously shuffle class balance, but how? Do bows and wands become enchantable? What happens to thrown weapons? How much extra resilience will twinks get?

Let the speculation begin!

Things are taking an interesting turn for WoW, perhaps they are indeed balancing out low levels unintentionally... maybe

Not looking forward to it at all... WoW will be an entirely new game...

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I fcking miss BC

Q.Q

Watch that first trailer! What I hate the most is usually when an xpac comes out, the game then has the theme of that xpac... going through icecrown to take out LK for example.... this would not be a problem at all if they made this a large patch, or mini xpac. But this should not be the main focus. I could see pandas coming in to help fix up azeroth after DW for a year max, but that is it for me.

Yeah, I can see Pandas helping fight of Deathwing for the sake of Azeroth then say becoming allies with the Alliance or horde, but when they show up kind of randomly it doesnt make much sense. Sure they used to be allies with night elves but what made them appear all of a sudden? We dont know the "evil" of this expansion yet.

blizz did say that the island was discovered by accident when horde and alliance warships were having some naval battle, so they dont exactly just appear out of nowhere.

also, has anyone seen anything about whether or not the new bgs will only be max level or include others as well?

Haven't seen any info on that yet. Im looking though.

I don't get the hate on this expension. Yes it are panda's, but thats not too bad, once a expension thats not about killing dragons and getting tokens to get your gear. They also said they are not releasing a real "end boss' for the expension. Meaning they will focus on the war between horde and Alliance which allows me to say: "F*cking finally..." They also promised to make this game no World of Stormwindcraft anymore. So we get to travel a lot. I'm looking forward to this expension, I find it is looking great with nice features and panda's aren't too bad. Also the monk looks like a nice class (Perhaps a nice twink?

Hopefully it will turn out to be like it says on the trailer. Good job Blizzard for releasing something new. And NOT the old crap we've been playing for the last 3 years.

THIS!!111!!!!!!1!!!!

taking away ranged weps for rogues... relics can leave but seriously?

no minimum range for hunters but they keep disengage?!?!?

NO!

Oknob pointed out earlier that the "No flying until max level" line only applies in Pandaria -- not the rest of the current game. The post hasn't updated yet to reflect that.

I love the idea of making resilience a base stat, which essentially brings a small damage nerf to PvP across the board without making PvE easier. I don't see any losses that concern me yet -- the bow/gun/relic slot doesn't change much (including hunters). A lot of WoW's problems come from having the wrong kind of difficulty. Having a separate slot for a different kind of weapon really didn't add anything to the game. Neither does hit rating, but that's a discussion for another time, and hit rating will likely stay in the game for now.

The talent shuffle could get interesting but I doubt it will turn the game upside down. I like the idea of turning talents into a more powerful version of the glyph system -- that has real potential.

i dislike all the flack this expansion has been getting. I think one of the key things about twinking, and the challenge i enjoy, is adapting to certain changes and learning to play your character in a different way. I started my 19 twink war in arms, then went prot now playing my f2p as fury. As the game changes the twink community should change with it. And don't bother with speculation just wait till it comes out

personally, i think MoP is going to be the best thing for twinking since the bg merger. gone are the days of seeing 5 sub rogues in a battle, where an fc gets taken down in a GCD because of multiple shs+ambush.

now, we're still going to have multiple of the same "spec", but each player will most likely have dif talents with the way its designed. eg. do you want a snare or a movement speed? do you want a long slow or a short disorient? etc

Let's speculate about change for twinking, on an expansion without even a release date, Why not.
