Is twinking cooked?

  • What happened? I thought timewalking scales to ilvl 60 for lvl 10/11, did they change it back? What's the current state of twinking? How's it looking for midnight?

The main thing that happened with twinking is everything got a lot of health, so most fights will take far longer than it used to.

Outside of that, things are still mostly the same as it's been since TWing was introduced: Level 10-11 are as powerful or more powerful than level 80.

Yeah imagine, fights now take 20-30 seconds longer. Crazy I know. Can't steamroll by just whirlwind. Big sadge and stuff . :FrogeConcern:

The ebb & flow of Twinking is part of it.
We've ridden a high tide for years, being absurdly OP since BFA, & really; we're still incredibly powerful.
Soloing has been made difficult, & might require you to utilize various trinks to survive some encounters.
    I'm curious how world drops will be effected by the gear calibration, possibly providing new BiS pieces through farming;
Right off the top, I feel like everyone should have an https://www.wowhead.com/item=27770/argussian-compass to put on; & keep a PvP trink on hand to mitigate stuns that, prior to the rescaling, one could just ignore.
Might want to go farm up a https://www.wowhead.com/item=137362/parjeshs-medallion?bonus=6654 too, just incase.

Let me give you a brief history of twinking in TWW.

There's always been a shifting meta. In DF, for example, it was grinding WoD dungeons for Warforged gear. That then go retroactively nerfed to the point where it's worse than TBC dungeon gear so what's the point?

TWW oepened up TW to level 10s rather than the expansion minimum level (eg 30 for TBC/WotLK, 35 for Cata/MoP, 40 for WoD, 45 for Legion). They did this by scaling the content to you instead of scaling you down to the minimum level. This killed an entire community in farming TW gear and created a huge balancing problem because level 10-20s were completely OP, even when not twinked. I, among many others, warned Blizzard this was going to be a problem and it was obvious from MoP Remix where it had never been clearer that you got weaker as you levelled. But Blizzard ignored this feedback and we had 11 Warriors soloing TW dungeons.

At the same time tanks got nerfed (in the TWW prepatch) with no warning, which basically just revealed how terrible the healers were. Personally, I haven't queued tank since just because it's not fun. If you die because the healer doesn't heal you, you get kicked for sucking as a tank.

A few very vocal people on the Blizzard forums and Twitter bitched about the twinks and "I can't play my class". like that's a thing. Literally nobody learns to play while levelling. That's just not a thing. You get to max level and (maybe) figure it out.

So Blizzard responded by adding scaling specific to TW dungeons that mortally wounded twinking in TW. Basically mob health and damage scales with your primary stat. If you're so inclined, you can farm a set of gear without +Primary and switch out your gems. This does help. A lot. It's still kinda hit and miss.

And now we've had talent changes that are fatal to some classes/specs.

Oh and SL gems got randomly nerfed in the Midnight prepatch as well so your twinks aren't even really "fun" in the sense that they can move fast. Well, we've seen from remix that you can massively increase move speed without any problem. Hell, my 999 Vers DH had a normal runs peedof ~260%. So what was the point of killing SL move gems? Then again, what was the point of earlier killing +Move% gems (ie the Straddling gems that were +3/5% in BFA/SL)? Or killing Longstrider.

It really has been a War on Fun.

For me, at least for me, Blizzard has "won" in that I'm completely demotivated to play twinks. I haven't seen them this determined to kill fun for many years.

I'm enjoying being able to actually do damage on a level 20 Outlaw Rogue. I was able to get over 80k damage while casually going on the offensive in a BG the other night. Normally it was hard to do more than 30k damage going all out. Granted, being able to actually stay in a fight and not just get one-shot by holy fire the moment I drop stealth might have something to do with it. In any case I hope they let me be a Murder Pook for the rest of this expansion.

To me it was when they made ALL Achievements account wide, bye bye 7k personal achievements. It had been my fun to chase achievements over the past 15 years on my level 10 Warrior, and to have them just remove and undo all progress on my character was devastating.

I've been through so much on my 10 twink lol. The killed BGs, at least we had wpvp. They killed wpvp, at least we had crazy scaling, hit rating and high level outside world mobs to challenge. They killed hit rating, at least we got dungeons to speedrun. They killed speedrun dungeons, now we basically have same speed clearing as 80s/non-twinks. What's even the point of decking the shit out of a level 10/11 now. At least we got achievements to show off with? Nope that too, bye.

    Now what...?

    Now what...?

You accept that blizzard killed off everything you liked about the game and find something else to do instead.

I could tell this was coming from the moment they announced a rescaling, because they have always messed those up. Then when the PTR went up and I tried it and couldn't kill mobs I used to be able to blow through I accepted that this is how its going to be. I played Remix harder because of it, like a going away present. Now its time to step back and take a break from the game. The annoyance bordering on anger at this point when I log in and see a 644 gold price staring at me when I try to transmog, knowing its supposed to be 25-50g, was the cherry on the shit sundae.

Find another game to play or something else to do with your time. Check back every so often to see if something new comes up that interest you, or if levelers finally complained enough for them to nerf mob health and damage. The good old days are over. Maybe they will return if they do a full level/rescale squish after The Last Titan.

How are you liking rogue for pvp? I figured they would still be alright there.

the squish after BFA ganked everyone below 50. it was not till after alot of complaints by influencers and paying players, blizz did their smoothing patch/fix that added more power and scaling to players 1-49.

i see in SL TW this week alot of players in leveling ranges struggling in healing, DPS, and survival issues. before these recent patches, we experienced issues when BFA TW was added last year with the scaling compared to other TWs, having to detune damage, etc. SL has near the same issues for lower levels, not just us.

Suikoden I is adorable, but II is a masterpiece! Well worth playing them both, for the same price as the inevitably mid-midnight.
