[Alpha] Base Skills and PvP talents at Level 20

Chops

Soccer Dad
(PvP talents in second post)

Disclaimers:
  • Its the second fucking week of alpha, guys. A lot of this stuff is going to change. This is just FYI as it goes.
  • There is no character copy on alpha, so I'm going to have to level these toons to 20 to see if there are more spec specific "baseline" skills as you level or if thats entirely taken over by the talent tree.
  • Im only going to post classes that have had a talent tree released. Every other class seems pretty untouched so far.

Please note, Moonkin form is NOT base. I had already used a talent point for that when I took the screenshot.

Im still leveling toons so I'll get PVP talents out just as soon as my little fingers can get me to 20...

Death Knight: PvP talents appear unchanged from live

Druid: PvP talents appear unchanged from live ( @chelly )

Hunters: You lose Hi Explosive Trap and (obviously) scatter shot. Looks like everything else stayed the same.

Priest: Shadow loses Void Shield and noone cares because psyfiend is still around. Holy remains unchanged. Disc remains unchanged.

Shaman: Enhance pvp talents appear unchanged, Ele and Resto keep all their current pvp talents and also both gain Precognition (cant paste pictures in edit mode? wtf xenforo)precog gives 15% haste and immunity to control effects for 4 seconds if someone kicks you while you arent casting.

I was curious how Unleash Shield would work with multiple shields up. Earth Shield doesnt currently work at all and if you have lighting and water up together, itll punt but not give you the MS pool. Bug report in, obviously.

Warrior: PvP talents appear unchanged from live

These seem to be the same. Kind of weird how you can pick improved barkskin at 10 but the spell is 24

Mark of the wild baseline, what's it do now?

Nevermind I googled my own question. Apparently it's

Mark of the Wild: Increases the target's Speed and critical strike chance by 3% and reduces their magic damage taken by 3% for 60 minutes. If the target is in your party or raid, all party and raid members will be affected.

Chops could you change to resto spec and let me know what the tooltip of starsurge says? I’m wondering if it’s still instant (it must be?) and what kind of CD it’s on

I do hope they make bark skin available for 20s though since ironbark may be unobtainable depending on how you spec & atm it’s just a wasted talent really at least give us something useful in its place

Starsurge was never instant for resto. It's always been a 2 second cast for non-balance druids who take the balance affinity talent. It's 10 sec cd. Cast 2 wraths for lunar eclipse, cast 2 starfires for solar eclipse. Has no one played a lvl 30+ druid before?

I haven’t played past level 20 for years now tbh so yeah I didn’t know and on the talent calculator it’s still showing the tooltip for balance
Does it still get empowered? Don’t forget this isn’t a “balance affinity” talent this is just a resto druid that has access to the spell it could work completely different?

Earthquake too!
I'm so glad for that change. Spaming dungeons while only doing dmg on bosses and relying on frag bombs on packs is such a snoozefest. And so far *almost* every spec gets one build path for aoe and one for single target, which is super cool considering that in sl you will stick to just one talent in any game mode. Also hoping for rain of fire for destro for same reason

Ah shit, pick pocket still level 24....doubt they will change the level until release, we will have another full expansion farming coins of air from order missions....

Could still change, the druid rez only got updated to level 19 on the recent alpha build so some of the rogue spells might get adjusted too. I hope things like that, on all classes, come available for 20's

Alpha is still quite early. Beta/prepatch PTR will give us the best answers. But until then, this theorycrafting is fucking fun.
Yea, I think if you take the trees as an indication of where their class design philosophy is at, rather than a hard and fast set of skills we're definitely getting at launch, you're in a pretty good spot.

Looks like theyre front loading the trees with utility and "class flavor" type stuff while output increasers and modifiers/etc are further down. So we're gonna get cool shit at level 20 and (so far) we're going to get to make interesting choices. Which is good!
