US New Epic Gear

If it's a unique drop from an NPC outside an instance (e.g. Murloc Oracle & Foamspittle Staff) or a quest reward (e.g. Rifle Commander's Eyepatch from Grant Me Revenge) then there is a chance the item will upgrade from green/blue to blue/purple.

It is based on RNG, but there is a theory (which I currently support but it's hard to be sure) that you can help this along by not playing an alt or handing in a quest/s for a while. (A week to 5 weeks have been mentioned herein.) The hope is Blizzard has increased the odds in such a case.

recently started playing a 19 druid i made years ago (can’t say exactly but it has seal of wrynn) Only logged every now and then for guild permissions (GM) anyway leveled to 20 and have done 15 or so quests that have item rewards and not one has upgraded.

RNG is RNG no mater what face you pull when u hand the quest in.

You guys gotta stop falling for this shit. RNG is RNG. We've had folks in the guild get back to back epic upgrades on items. It's pure luck.

Fuck like ferocity got 8+ epics on his new pally but my priest got 2 epics doing every quest she could find at level 20

To mimic what's already been said yeah seriously stop with the superstitious voodoo shit lmao

I play my F2P druid like once a week and still have only gotten two epic quest rewards.

I got three epics in less than two hours on my warrior.

RNG is RNG.

I love the community involvement here to help. I also welcome you to the forum (even though you are not a super newbie xD)! But the search bar may easily answer future questions and these for this topic is very widely discussed and covered in multiple threads.

the only voodoo shit that works is sacrificing your time to re-rolls

I totally understand the cynicism on this subject and on the face of it would agree, but here's what I have done to convince myself one way or another.

With another purpose in mind (& because I've been off work through quite a debilitating illness) I created two identical Alliance alts: Xreé & Yänkie. (See what I did there...?)

I levelled them to 20 and ran the following instances along the way, completing the quests [in square brackets] which awarded significant blue items therein, but turned none of them in immediately:

Deadmines [The Defias Kingpin]
Ragefire Chasm [The Dark Shaman]
Shadowfang Keep [Fury of the Pack]
Wailing Caverns [Cleansing the Caverns]
Blackfathom Deeps [The Rise of Aku'mai]
Stormwind Stockade [The Gnoll King]

On 17th September for Xreé I turned in all the quests above back to back.

Here are the results (she's wearing as many as I can put on her, given there are two sets of legs.):

Cookie's Table Cloth - Blue i.e. Rare
Ragefire Leggings - Blue i.e. Rare
Sandals of Sacrifice - Blue i.e. Rare
Serpentis' Gloves - Blue i.e. Rare
Blackfathom Leggings - Blue i.e. Rare
Rifle Commander's Eyepatch - Blue i.e. Rare

For Yänkie, I waited for over two weeks. (To be clear, I've played the Horde alts on this account during that time, but not gone to the Alliance Side. This is between 17th September & 2nd October.) This afternoon I logged in, immediately queued for Wailing Caverns & immediately on entering handed in Cleansing the Caverns.

You will see that Yänkie is now wearing Purple i.e. Epic Serpentis' Gloves.

One lucky roll proves very little - I post this now for what it's worth.

I'll update in two weeks time.

Youd have to perform this experiment another 100 times at least to even come close to convincing me. Once, twice, three times isnt even enough.

Grats on the gloves rng has favored you

Man, I appreciate the effort but a two toon sample size is small as hell and we've got a guild with a hundred or so twinks that pretty much proves RNG gonna RNG.

Like ask yourself why blizzard would bother coding something that complex? Especially for low level quest rewards.

You can wait two weeks for every single quest I guess. But I'm gonna reroll for the one epic I want and then farm BGs for the rest. Lemme know when your twink is geared next August.

In the scientific community we have an expression that covers this topic: "The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'."

Yänkie now has:

Serpentis' Gloves - Purple i.e. Epic
Sandals of Sacrifice - Blue i.e. Rare

So following my rigorous testing sadly this theory is terminally holed and sunk without trace.

I did try another method. I completed Welcome to the Machine and thought really really hard how nice it would be if Cue Cue Gloves dropped as epic.

They did - on two separate alts!!!!

To cap it all, using the same method, this morning I helped England to beat Australia at the World Cup.

Filled with optimism after this good fortune, I'm off to try homeopathy next.

Science is fun!
