Curious about level squish thoughts...

Just heard they were seriously discussing this behind the scenes (according to the Q&A), first thing that came into my mind is where that would place 19 in the grand scheme of things. I mean, if they just double off everything level-wise that would put you guys below level 10 based on experience accrued... o_O

Not only would everything you're farming now become meaningless, current 19 wouldn't even be eligible to queue.

No idea how it would work yet tho, but the fact that it's being "very seriously" discussed points to as early as next xpac.

Hrmmm...

Could you provide some more details?

It is internet based game where you don't own anything and all your progress stored on servers you got zero control over.

It was all useless from start.

From marketing point making allied races or trial to start at catchy round number as 20 is a good thing. Unlikely it will change.

Would me or you relevel mains to 19 or 20 again if we are to get squished? Different question.

IMO best way for them to deal with this is to split game in to 3 brackets. 1-19 20-49 50-60 for starting zones, every old expac content and new expac zones.

Every new expac would add old one to 20-49 pool and re set 60 cap to 50 + allowing ppl to level 50-55 by doing old content with friends.

World quests must be a thing for every old zone.

Pvp would be more ez to balance. Everything would insta pop allways. The amount of shit for y'all to farm would be cosmic.

Elvis left the building.

It was in the last Q&A. About 53 minutes in.

I doubt it, they'd more likely just tack on the expansion like they do every other expansion. Saying 1-60 is through BfA and the new xpac would be 61-whatever. Think TBC... then at a point very far in the future do it again, just like a stat squish.

That gives the crap scaling to old content and their favored exponential scaling to new content without constant update.

edit- I mean, we made it from TBC to here without it being overly complained about... that's a long run between them.

I guess they'd even have to combine more xpacs into leveling ranges, which would be cool. Like classic, then maybe TBC/WotLK/cata/MoP, then WoD/legion/BfA… something like that? So you could avoid several expansions while leveling.

1-20 classic
20-40 tbc/LK/cata/mop
40-60 WoD/legion/BfA
61+ next xpac…

Or even cooler, 1-30 classic, 20-50 the next, then 30 to 60. Overlapping everything.

Ofc it is too radical. Ofc snowflakes would cry out in unity how bad it is. Like if 1 week of leveling once every 2 year somehow means anything anymore.

Legion pre expac system was awesome. Completely scaled pvp build on ptr was awesome.

None of it made it.

The system is so abandoned at this point that anything will be an improvement.

They really screwed that up, IMO. Warmode would have been so much more popular with the original scaling.

I think Ion even was leaning at that, talking about squishing AND shortening if I recall. Which is funny, given the massive attempt to slow the whole process down they just went thru the last time. Like literally the opposite of the leveling revamp.

This company is just a mess.

Just the idea of squishing levels would make hell break loose, to to think that after all these years they would do something like that. I hope not.

They are better off just adding yet another leveling system in parallel, like lets say after you hit level 100 you get a new type of level on top of that, Kinda like artifact levels but bigger.

god your idea sounds hideously boring and the most likely

Who cares, we're not here to play max level, most of us enjoying playing on our twinks exactly for the reason that at least some things dont change. I'd say that this patch right here though is the biggest gamechanger we've seen so far for twinks, other than bracket separations, legion event was also pretty significant but, if you touch players current levels, a lot of people will flip.

From what I gathered watching that video, they seem to be realizing that they've made leveling completely meaningless. Between ability pruning, stat squishing and zone scaling you dont really have much to look forward to as you push from 1-60 and then from 60-70. All it does is open new zones, which given the current scaling, seems like an arbitrary selection.

They want to make each level or every other level feel exciting and meaningful and one solution is to halve the number of levels. That honestly seems... weird. But the simple solution theyre overlooking is to simply bring back the old style of talent trees. Not the same ones, obviously, but building points into abilities and passives and having a progression tree makes leveling important. It gives a sense of building towards something. Which is what theyre looking for.

It will all depend on how classic does, i dont see how they could justify having 2 level 60 capped games competing against each other. If you think vanilla 1-60 will be bad, wait till there's 9 expansions worth of content to do in 60 levels.

IMO it seems like someone wants to leave their mark, instead of this being a well thought out idea. Hope it doesn't happen unless lvl3 twinks become a thing....

It is inevitable that player levels will be compressed down. Current system is not sustainable and does more harm than good. Player level has no value anymore.

If (big if there) they hold true to their "you're gonna have the same ilvl and abilities, just a different number by your name" thing then it's really not gonna affect us much, provided they change the level at which you can que BGs.

It's one of those things where it could be HUGELY disruptive or a huge "meh"

i want level squish for my selfish f2p / vet reasons. i just hope f2p cap stays at 20 after the squish, otherwise its all meaningless
