I'm only familiar with classic. I'm going to get my first expansion, Shadowlands, and try retail. What can I expect for activity, fun in retail twinking? I know that's a reductive question, but I don't have much idea. Thanks.

Not really much to know about SL right now because, well, nobody has played it.
but in general, you can expect a far burstier, faster paced game with a bit more gear variety and a bit less spec/talent variety.
thats... kinda as general as I can get about it.

The bg queues are separated for xpon and xpoff. Twinks play xpoff to avoid getting experience from battlegrounds, so for games to proc there must be enough twinks on both sides, which doesn’t happen for most brackets. To play xpon with levelers you either go trial version (f2p or vet), currently capped at level 20, or avoid buying current expac and play at previous levelcap (that will be 50 in shadowlands).
If you wanna go the 50 route, it’s a great idea to do some endgame content now in bfa to get gear that’s gonna be gf’d soon.

That’s such a loophole though. I’ll make whatever the f2p cap is while on a f2p account and just farm bis gear but without enchants.
