But he is right though, it is quite frustrating to see new comers only being interested in the OP classes. Also, like he said, playing with what you are good/enjoy is important. You never know where the nerf bat will hit. In a few patches, that "OP but boring class" might get nerfed to the ground, hence having a twink that you actually enjoy playing might be an advantage.
Take my warrior for example, I love warriors and they happened to be OP back in woltk. Few nerfs later, I still enjoy him because theyre amazingly fun to play!

Playing a twink without heirlooms means you won't ever be BiS. You'll miss out on leg and shoulder enchants that are both a big stat increase.
The difference is THAT big that you'll probably lose to pretty much any heirloomed twink.
In WoW gear > skill any time.
So if that's fine by you, go ahead and try it out.
