What are the best....

....classes to twink at lvl 39 for pure damage come 3.1? My brother has an enhance shamy that he is twinking and he wants me to join him....so im wondering what class is best for pure burst damage? I imagine there will be more then one answer based on ppls personal preference....but that is expected. And figure that I will be gearing him in the best available (one i can get my hands on it ;) Thanks guys!

Pure burst? Ret pally. Most damage? Ret pally or hunter. What do you expect to be doing mostly? BGs I take it? Fire mages are quite competitive in damage and very survivable. Rogues are the best though. We gotz teh stuns, teh vanish thingy, that no-see-me ability thinger called liek stealth, and evazion and poke-your-eyes-out and we even do a little damage. :D

Ret paladin, hunter, warlock, rogue, mage, probably in that order.

Retadins are the kings of burst now, with hunters and mages bringing up second and third place, though they're comfortable thanks to their various utilities and ranged aspects. Warlocks are still, and probably always will be the kings of overall damage output, thanks to the wonders of dots. And rogues supply some of the best cc in addition to dps, leading to of course their dominance in dueling. Warriors unfortunately just don't stack up without BoA enchants and 450 profs these days. =/

rogues cause me the most problems.

hunters aren't necessarily that bursty, they do very consistant dps though.

warlocks are annoying but definately not much burst.

mages can have good burst if you know how to play a fire mage properly.

ret paladins can do good burst if they proc stuff. on my mage though, they can't touch me.

Yeah for BGs, a good aff lock will likely always lead in damage. However, that's merely because of DoT tabbing. They don't have much in the way of burst, per se.

I don't know if this was meant to be a joke, but I actually strongly agree. I forgot about them. They are very powerful in the 39 bracket, though I never see any.

holy dps does ridiculous damage, it is more burst than consistent though.

I still prefer shadow in group situations, silence is a must and mind flay does the equivalent of smite dps, although smite crits are higher than mind flay tick crits. As shadow I can actually kill healers, if you are holy most of the time your damage will get outhealed unless you get a surge of light proc.

Balance druids have great burst. A lot of it depends on execution though, they rely on not being noticed due to stealth.

I'd consider balance druids and holy priests to both be quite good burst classes, though not as good as paladins, and with less throughput of the 5 classes I listed, due to mana issues.

sounds like im going w/ a ret pally...best part is i alrdy have one at lvl 20, lol. Now...for my next question....how do i gear him? Should i follow the gear list for a arms/fury war here http://twinkinfo.com/forums/f23/powergloves-39-arms-fury-warrior-guide-t494/ or is it completely different for a ret paladin? Also what profs will benefit me most? eng and...?

Thanks for the quick replies and good info ;)

I would personally go with something along the lines of:

Quick Ret Pally 39 Guide

Head

Raging Berserker's Helm

(+8 strength)

Neck

Darkmoon Pendant

Shoulders

Polished Shoulders of Valor

(+30 stam / +15 resilience)

Back

Scorpashi Cape

(+12 agility)

Chest

Blood-tinged Armor [HORDE ONLY -- Smart people go Horde though. :))

(+6 stats)

Wrist

Revelosh's Armguards of Power

(+12 strength)

Hands

Gauntlets of Divinity

(+15 strength)

Waist

Ogron's Sash

Legs

Leggings of the Vault

(+50 AP / +12 crit rating)

Feet

Ancient Greaves of Power

(+Surefooted)

Rings

Assault Band

Aquamarine Signet of Strength

Trinkets

AGM

Inherited Insignia of the Horde

That's just a brief list I put together of what I think makes a very nice setup. You can change out pieces if you want of course, but I like that setup.

Edit:

ALSO NOTE, MY LIST IS ONLY FOR CURRENT PATCH 3.0.9! There are likely going to be some major changes upcoming within the next month that may alter the gear list.

Anyone got a good 39 pally guide then :D?
