Trouble finding the right gems

So I just got my Ret Pally to 79 and am going through the dungeon gear process for most of my items. With that being said I am struggling to find the right gems to do all of this. I played vanilla and BFA and that's about it, so I have close to 0 knowledge on gems besides certain ones can only go in certain sockets.

My main questions are.. Is there a google doc out there with all this info? If not am I just buying gems on AH or is there farm spots? Also I guess general "BiS" gems for a ret pally would be nice.

Tbc gems are bis for 79, the ones located in tbc heroics will be your bis, although I don’t know Ret enough to be for certain which gen is bis. I do know there are 5 crit 4 vs gems and 5 str 4 crit gems etc, and no need to look at a docs account hen wow head or the addon atlas loot can easily show you where each of these gems drop
 
There is very little choice for gemming Str classes for pvp. Your options are the crafted 6Str gem (cheap, easy to get), the annoying farm for the 5Str+4Crit gems from heroic Shadow Labyrinth and Mana Tombs, and the even more annoying farm for the 5Str+6Stam gem from heroic Shattered Halls.

For a ret pala I’d say start with 6Str gems and slowly replace them with the 5Str 4Crit ones over the next month or two of daily farming.

Appreciate it! You're pally armory and another one are pretty much what I am following to gear my char xD

Fair warning - I don’t think my pala is BiS gearwise since I never touched him post 8.1.5, and in any case it was more of a fun side project. I found it subpar to my enh shaman in pretty much all respects so I didn’t play him much. Hope you like pallies more than I do

There's another armory I found that I combined the two to make him, I have A LOT of gearing to do on him still.
I was thinking of making an enhance seeing as it was my actual main in BFA until I stopped grinding the content/raids. I really want to make a twink one but idk if I can bare to level another toon lol, I have one at 100 but Idk how good that 100-109 bracket is
